    I only use Driving Assistant Pro for long highway drives in light traffic. It works well but I prefer to be in total control in congested areas.

    Augmented reality is great in places you don't know & especially in European towns where everything is much tighter & turn-offs appear much quicker & where you may have language difficulties reading the signs. Agree basically the driving assistance systems are superb on the motorways, good on fast cross-country roads but have their limitations on those roads with lots of non-traffic light controlled junctions and, as here in Europe, roundabouts, where it can't judge traffic, which has the right of way, that is coming at you from the side. (I have the iX1 full EV in Bavaria, Germany)

    Thanks for doing this. The terminologies that BMW uses (Driving Assistant Pro, Assist Plus, Traffic Jam assistant, Extended Traffic Jam assist, Highway assist, etc.) are super confusing, and I did not get a clear sense of what is actually included in the X1 even after doing a test drive (we did not get stuck in traffic in the freeway). Looks like the X1 comes with most of the stuff that X5/X7 have except the new Highway Assist that allows assist plus mode all the way till 85 mph.
    Have a quick qn - it looked like you were driving on roads with different speed limits, but did not notice you adjusting the speed (with the +/- buttons) every time - does it change the max speed in the assist/cruise mode automatically from the speed limit signs? There is a mention about speed limit assistant in the manual, but it is not very clear if it just suggests the speed or actually changes it automatically.

    • @jacyy
      @jacyy  Год назад +1

      Great question, I did have to adjust the speeds manually in this video (controls are pretty confusing in this car), but I do believe there is a setting you can enable in iDrive to set the speed to the speed limit if available.

    So i could buy the driver assistance plus and that will basically do what a Kia does and keep you in the lane(highway or street) if lanes are visible of course? And the pro basically just adds the auto lane switch and traffic jam which allows you to do hands free under 40 mph?

    Hi, great video. Can os9 do the same trick as os8 or 8.5 to show live traffic view on dashboard instead of the right screen, also have AR showing on dashboard? Pretty much have dashboard reflecting the front camera all the time.

    • @jacyy
      @jacyy  4 месяца назад

      In the US, the 2023 X1 was running os8 and limits the front view camera to a certain speed, and disables it once that limited is reached

    This was awesome. I have tested numerous systems and always liked Kia and Hyundai the best. With PRO I drove through Europe and loved it. The system was 100% better than the older BMW Driver Assistance Plus. Question: Has anyone driven Highway Assist? The X1 only has Pro. Debating a new 24 5 series for Highway Assist but not sure how finicky it is to your eyes? Has anyone driven Highway assist? I would love an open highway drive of 8 hours hands-free but not sure if highway assist is that much of a benefit? I don't agree with the video on the pro package and eyes, as I don't think it sees them. Also, the title of the video was assisted driving versus pro. I assume this was pro? I agree BMW has too many names and confusing.

    • @jacyy
      @jacyy  Год назад

      Yes this X1 has the active driving assistance pro package. (X1 can either have Plus or Pro, the Plus package doesn’t have the surrounding vehicle display on the cluster as I showed in the video). This specific X1 is spec’d out with all of the options that BMW makes available in the US. What do you mean by eyes? Do you mean eye tracking for driver monitoring? The system on this X1 does do driver monitoring, whether that’s eye tracking or head posture tracking i’m not sure. On speeds under 45mph and on selected highways, you can go hands-free so long as you’re paying attention to the road. No constant nag to put your hands on the wheel. However, as soon as you look away, the system will nag at you with a pay attention warning. Only reason I used the name “Assisted Driving” in the title was because that’s what iDrive 8 calls it. Specifically, iDrive 8 calls it “Assisted Driving”, and “Assisted Driving Plus”, which is the highway hands-free version of Assisted Driving. I would think that Assisted Driving and Assisted Driving Plus fall under the Active Driving Assistance Pro Package. (too many names!!!)

      @@jacyy it's confusing for sure BMW. I don't think the professional package has eye or head tracking and with my rental in Germany similar to your video it prompted me in orange every 15 seconds. Then red and full braking if no action. That's professional package. It's my understanding highway assist us fully autonomous and won't prompt you unless you take your eyes off the front. Professional will always prompt you up squeeze the wheel every 15. Are you seeing something different? How sensitive is the highway assist to eye movement? Debating waiting for next years 5 series that will have as an option.

    • @jacyy
      @jacyy  Год назад

      @@steveconney3119 The Assisted Driving Plus function in iDrive 8 (part of the Professional Package in the X1 here in the US) is the "highway assist". As I mentioned in my previous reply, this system activates when you're driving on an eligible highway in the US, and your speed is under 40mph. If both conditions are met, the system enables eye/head tracking and requires zero input (hands-free). At 10:30 in the video, you can see the LEDs on the steering wheel turn green, and the assisted driving plus (highway assist) turns on. From this point, the system no longer prompts me to put my hands on the wheel. For BMW's higher end cars, their "Assisted Driving Plus" function can extend up to 85mph. At 11:22, you can see the system deactivating, immediately the system prompts me for steering input, and the steering wheel LEDs turn off. At this point, the system has reverted to the "Assisted Driving" function, where it will prompt you to touch the wheel every few seconds. The system then re-activates at 12:02 in the video, again, the LEDs on the steering wheel turns green. The system disengages with a red alert at 12:31, and because of the instant red alert, it most likely lost tracking lane lines and requires immediate driver input. In my experience, the system is fairly sensitive, if you tilt your head down to look at the cluster, the system will trigger an inattentive warning, so it's best to just look forward.
      Edit tldr: Assisted Driving can be enabled on any road, and does NOT do any eye/head tracking, whereas Assisted Driving Plus can ONLY be enabled on eligible highways, and it does eye/head tracking.

      Highway assist goes handsfree up to 80 or 85mph (can't remember). It's available on X5 and 5 right now. Plus goes to 40 handsfree, like you show on the X1.

    does the lane switching only work when using the build in navigation and why? or does it also work when using apple carplay and google or apple maps or just driving by yourself?

    • @jacyy
      @jacyy  8 месяцев назад

      The lane switching also works if you just tap the blinker instead of depressing it all the way, no navigation needed. I’m not sure if those maps would work, but I suspect no. :(

    Let me make sure I got this (since I’m buying the car fully loaded in the us but wasn’t able to test this spec). Thank you btw for making this video!
    The active driving assistant plus is basically used for traffic jams and let’s you chill during them, you just look forward.
    The active driving assistant is primarily valuable for highway driving and requires you to touch it every 5 seconds. Can you just rest a finger on the wheel here?
    I didn’t understand why the system doesn’t transition from plus mode to regular once the traffic jam ended. The end of the day isn’t it just maintaining distance to car ahead and keeping you in the lane lines?

    • @jacyy
      @jacyy  11 месяцев назад +1

      You can rest about 2-3 fingers on it, and it works. I was pretty new to the touch capacitive steering wheel system so I couldn’t tell if it needed a squeeze or something else. As for the transition, it does transition out of assisted driving plus at 40MPH, but there is no clear indication that it’s transitioned out. It’ll just start prompting you to put your hand on the wheel again after 5 or so seconds. The only alerts you get related to the system are when the assisted driving plus gets activated at 40mph (shown on screen).

    @jacy how did you get the camera to turn on when lane changing? Also I’ve tried holding the turn signal manually for just one second and the system deactivates. Is that not the right way?

    • @jacyy
      @jacyy  7 месяцев назад

      You need to enable AR navigation within the maps app in order for the camera feed to come up. The camera will automatically pop up when you’re within a certain distance from the next instruction, so it is not controlled by the turn signal stalk. Hope this helps!
