    Do you use voice commands in your BMW? Do you like them more than using the iDrive knob?

    •  2 месяца назад +1

      Getting rid of the iDrive knob was a complete disaster.
      Playing music albums is incredibly difficult and dangerous now. When opening up the Media section, just the first half a dozen artists or albums are shown and you have to flick up dozens of times to get to later in the alphabet. You can’t scroll through albums as you used to be able to.
      It’s like someone drank the Musk Koolaid and never thought about how drivers need to interact with the system.
      Such a retrograde system.
      If I’d known how bad it is, I might have considered an alternative brand.
      As a driver of BMWs for 20+ years, this is a real shame.

    Finally someone with insight who shows up all the other reviewers who moan about the lack of a dial controller, well done!
    Love the voice control, BMW have done a brilliant job, it’s very robust and intuitive.

    Hi, could you help with some voice commands? I just got new x1 with idrive 9.
    All is good with voice command except one thing.
    I can't figure it out , what voice command would change air stream from lets say window area , to middle area or feet area. Any tips for that.? Thank you

    As someone with the latest X1 with the tech pack and driving assistance professional, the voice command works fine and means there are very few times you need to touch the screen. Is it perfect no, but neither was the dial in the central console. Embrace the change, it works.

    • @bmwblog
      @bmwblog  Год назад

      Not perfect, but could have been better. This is why they are improving the voice commands in iDrive 8.5 and 9

      I’ve got the new X1 too. The voice control is already pretty damn good. If it’s improving then it will be fantastic!

    This is helpful! How do you completely turn off personal assistant? I’ve notice there are times I’m singing in my car and the PA starts talking to me, which interrupts the music. It talks to me without any commands. So I kind of want to turn it off all together. Is that possible?

      You can disable “Activation by Voice” in the Voice Control Settings

    2) Can it self park?

    Physical buttons and idrive is much easier...example 'hey BMW..open window'. The button is right there...don't think I'd ever say it, if a button is available.

    Thanks for the video and effort.
    Did anyone notice that there is a cut after every voice command and its execution?
    I am guessing it's because ID8 takes too much time to process the voice commands. Sometimes up to 5 seconds. Its a nice party trick but its usability is not practical in real life.
    IMHO A lot of refinement is required before they can replace hard touch buttons.

    • @bmwblog
      @bmwblog  Год назад

      Not a trick. We just didn't want viewers to wait for no reason. People click away. But yes, there is a delay. Nothing new really

      @@bmwblog Oh I was referring to BMW voice commands as "Party Tricks". I was commenting about their usability.
      You did the right thing by cutting off those awkward delays. Once again, its very good video :)

    (speaking as someone who has the X1 on order, this is one of my fears) What if the X1 responds with something like this? "I'm afraid I can't do that. This is Canada. Too cold to open the windows. I will lock the doors and drive you to Florida... then I'll open the windows. Do not try to disable me or else...." (this is why everybody needs one of those little emergency hammers to break car windows just in case) 🙀

    • @bmwblog
      @bmwblog  Год назад +2

      I don't think it can do that. But for example, it does say that it cannot open the trunk via voice commands

      @@bmwblog I was only kidding! After months of waiting, I finally got the production number for my X1.... hopefully, it will arrive in the US within a couple of months. :) By the way, BMW needs to send you guys a commission check.... Watching your videos played a major part in my decision to defect from Lexus to BMW X1. :) (no easy feat, since everybody in my family has been driving Lexus vehicles for the last 24 years)

      @@bmwblog just got off the phone with the BMW Genius hotline a few minutes ago. GREAT NEW! My X1 with M Sport package has been scheduled for production beginning in the 12th week!(March 20-24) Am I a nerd?(because I've already started reading the X1 owner's manual PDF that I downloaded from BMWUSA's website) :) I feel sad for my current Lexus sitting in the garage right now. Fortunately, it doesn't have any voice command capability... otherwise, it may go HAL-9000 on me?

  • @npopson
    @npopson Год назад +3

    It is so disingenuous to be doing a jump cut after every single command to hide the delays and unreliability. Even with iDrive 8, voice commands are so slow and unreliable compared to basically any other (non-car) voice assistant.

    • @bmwblog
      @bmwblog  Год назад +3

      Nothing to do with that. We already know the delay. The idea was to not have people wait and focus on what the commands are. That's all

    Who ever use voice commands they are slow and not practical. No controller is a deal breaker. Touch screens should be banned as they are clear distraction.

    • @bmwblog
      @bmwblog  Год назад +1

      They are a bit slow, but the question is: how fast do you need them to be? Will it make a difference between 1 sec or 5 sec when it comes to adjusting the AC?

    • @cp4512
      @cp4512 Год назад +1

      Voice commands are much less of a distraction than using a dial, especially for tasks like setting satnav. You keep your hands on the wheel and don’t need to watch the screen so much safer.

    I ordered my BMW X1 Sdrive20i just 2 days before Xmas (2022)(avoiding the Brussels Autoshow orders mid January). Expected delivery-time (according to the ordering system of BMW dealer) ... January ... 2024 ! (I am living in Belgium - only 700 km away from Regensburg factory in Germany). Have the impression that all intercontinental deliveries have priority !?
