Finally, someone explained why I cannot remove the low ink error warning indicator. I have a couple cartridges where one registers the "Low Ink" condition and the other registers "out of ink" (requiring the "stop/reset' button being pressed nearly every time I use it. Even though they both have been refilled, they both sat around and the ink dried and clogged the heads to the point that the "maintenance cleaning" had no effect. I soaked the head in a dish with isopropyl alcohol for an hour, then wrapped the head in a cloth and used my shop-vac to start to suck the ink through the head. Apply the suction for only a second or two at a time, just enough to prime the ink through the injector head. Once I saw a pattern of ink on the cloth from the head, it started to act just like new. Now I will keep my eye open for old cartridges to finally get enough to fix this pesky "low ink/no ink" condition.
Tried pushing for 10 seconds reset button and worked from the first time. My MX 300 printer is from 2008 and still works under Windows 10 having driver for Windows 8, with no problems. I'm glad there are still cartridges for this model. Thanks a lot!
Thank you viandant5, pressing the stop button for about 6 seconds did the reset on my MX492 and it works now again with my refilled cartridge. That was such a quick and simple fix, great job that video you posted.

Pressing and holding the "Stop" button on my Canon MX492 is what worked for mine. Thank you for this info! I had my cartridges filled at Costco and needed to bypass this pesky problem.
Dear viandant5, After so many hours spent on rectification; your suggestion on the 1st method worked fantastically ( PRESSING STOP & ON BUTTONS at the same time for 10 secs...my Cannon is a 355 model) . Keep up the good work as most of us are not computer savvy. TQVM Bro !!
This does not work. Canon may have gone with the idea that you have to use THEIR cartridges and will refuse to recognize "after market" cartridges. I have tried EVERYTHING and still nothing, It refuses to recognize that this a full cartridge of ink. I HATE CANON. I am going to make a website where people can post their complaint and then destroy their printer for Canon and the other printer companies to see how frustrated people really are WITH THEIR OLD INFERIOR DOS BASED PIECES OF FECAL MATTER THAT WE HAVE TO USE TO PRINT. Howdy! This video really helped me out! Especially the part about the internal cartridge memory!! I have a Canon Pixma MP495. I got it second-hand and I've never seen it print in color. I recently cleaned the clogged ink and refilled it. After a day of letting the ink settle I actually tried the tape method with a thin opaque piece of washi tape and put it in the printer like that. I covered up a different row four different times. Each time I got a "this cartridge can't be recognized" message. Then I tried it without the tape and tried to print something in color. For the first time in the four years that I've had this printer it printed in color! Thanks! P.S. Color is still shown as being low ink but that hasn't been a real problem.
A year later! I kept putting off setting up my printer to do a courtesy print every few weeks. My ink totally dried out! I cleaned out the clogged ink on the printerheads and refilled them. I needed to wait a day for the ink to settle.(That's important. I always forget that) This time my printer refused to print because instead of saying low ink it said it was out of ink! I kept getting error messages and having to shut down my printer mid-print. The tape method was no longer working so I reset my printer. When turning on your printer hold the power button and the stop/reset button for three second and then let go of the stop/reset button and start rapidly pressing it instead for another three seconds. Release both buttons. This doesn't reset the ink levels but it stopped the error messages that kept forcing me to restart my printer.
THANK YOU! i have a canon pixma TS3122 and held down stop for a few seconds then printed again and this worked. i also needed a printer alignment after reinstalling my ink cartridge when i manually refilled it. both of these together helped me!

Can you clarify a couple of things please? Does this work with Canon printers using multiple cartridge colors? it works with printers using cartrisges with print-head. cartridge does not need to be new as stated in the video but they need to be the same color. the reset last for one cartridge life
Thank you soooooo much, now I don’t need to buy new cartridges, so happy. These people be making too much money on cartridges, it’s like you’re buying the whole printer multiple times 🥺

Step 1: push power button for 10 seconds to reset the printer, that doesn't work. Step 2: throw the Canon printer out the highest window you can find. Step 3: go buy another HP that lasted for 5 years and prints and prints and prints and prints on 1 cartridge.
Just found an mg315 in my building's rubbish room. I don't want it as a printer, but would like the scanner. Getting a E05 error message. The printer has no cartridges in it. Can I use the scanner without any cartridges? At present it won't scan. Is it worth buying a black cartridge to see?
E05 it's an error related to the cartridges.it's not possible to use the machine without cartridges, if you insert a cartridge the machine will works so probably, it's worth to buy a new cartridge.
viandant5 Many thanks, Just the one cartridge should be fine? It vexes me that the scanner option is disabled unless you have cartridges, it's a money spinner. I'll give it a go.

viandant5 Hi Took your advice of the 15steps , Nothing works , only the triangle yellow light lit permanently from the on button . Suspect canon printer card is programed not to reset any changes .very confuse . rgs
Great video but do you have any idea for my case? I have already taken a multi function printer and I just want to use from its scanner, but, it doesn't work because I have not installed the cartridges... and well, it's clear that I don't want to install them for now... Any idea? thanksss!

Navid Najafi when you install a new driver often the machine think the cartridges are new (it's a good reset procedure too). probably the machine was "confused" and accepted the scanning procedure without cartridges

I had problems with my Canon Pixma MG3150 but your tips didn't work. It kept failing to recognise the cartridge. But I took out the cartridge and wiped it over with a baby wipe and it seems to be printing again.
After 13 years , my printer Canon Pixma MP250 displays the error E 05. It says Color cartridge not recognised. It was a non original refiled cartridge that worked fine for a while. Even if I insert an original very old refiled color canon cartridge I get the same error. And even If I completely remove the color cartridge, I get the same error with only the black cartridge inserted. I have tried all the methods to reset the printer. It does not print even with only the black cartridge inserted. The same error E05 , color cartridge not recognised. The printer was stored in a cold room for a while and powered on without waiting to reach the room temperature in a warmer room when I got this error. Any idea what to try? Thx I've also cleaned the contacts of the cartridge holder. Visually everything seems all right. Only the scanner works.
My MP240 is giving me an error message but it's not a refilled cartridge, it's new but a different brand than the ones I'd been using, does that make any difference? Also I don't have 4 empty Cartridges, just the 2 I just took out to put the new ones in, can I still make it work??

I don't have 4 cartridges so I tried the reset method. When I align the heads, the printer works nicely as it does when I want to print the ink numbers - everything nice and fresh. However, when I put the alignment printout to be scanned, it shows Error. As for real printing, no such luck. I wonder what is the most economical printer, inkwise.
Does this work with the Canon 745 cartridge..I thought that the cartridge itself has a memory..are u sure this 4 cartridge method will work with Canon pixma mg 2470..cause when I reset it's still showing low ink levels..

Hi viandant5, I need a small suggestion. I have successfully installed CISS on my Canon Pixma Mp495 series (Model 497) using new cartridges. The ink tanks connected well, but soon the black cartridge showing empty and does not work. I removed air manually from the ink tank cable once and again installed the cartridge. It worked. Soon now both cartridges shown empty. How to use REset/ stop button to rerecognise cartridges as new? Need to remove air from cartridges too? How to do it? and Where will be the reset hole in cartridge? Please suggest.Sorry 4 giving trouble. My cartridge models are Canon 810 Black and 811 Color
try press the stop/reset button for one minute or more. if not, try this: umplug the power cable, then press all buttons including power button. then in one hand plug the power cable. the printer should be ready to use again. other method, enter in service mode: power off the printer but make sure it's connected to a power source ,press the power button while pressing and holding the stop/reset button When the power button is on, press the stop/reset button two times while pressing and holding the power button. When releasing the power button and stop /reset button , the printer will move into the service mode and now you can reset the ink level from Menu Selection.
viandant5 I use a Canon MG3100 Series uses cartridges 440 (Black) 441 (Colour). There is no reset button. On the top panel, there a total of 9 Buttons! Difficult to press all! :( Any ideas on what I should do? :)
Hi mine is PIXMAMP540. The first time my ink ran out this worked. But this time it didnt. What should i do. I dont have any other cartridges to replace and replace. i only have one.
Problem with canon 810 black print cartridge. There is no any error messages. I use ip2770 and MP287 printers. Ink flow from cartridge print head is FINE. There is no any clog in print head. BUT it doesn’t print anything on paper. Please give suggestion. I ALWAYS USE REFILLED CARTRIDGES.
Probably the problem is into electronic circuit. The ink flowing from nozzles does nothing if there is a electrical problem. probably you have to change the cartridge
how will you know if the ink from your ink cartridge is running low? so that before it runs out I can refill it again... Canon properties show empty cartridges even if I newly refilled them
i'm not sure i get the significance of the memory of only 4 cartridges....you're saying the memory had to start over again at 0, and will have no memories of previous chips?
hello bro, how do we know ink level of refill cartridge? just look at the printing? or do the 4 cartridges then it will tell the level ink just like new cartridge?
This didn't work for me. I have a Canon Pixma MP495 printer. I used 4 empty black ink cartridges that came from a different printer. I placed the 5th cartridge in that I had filled and the printer still wouldn't accept it. I am wondering why not.
viandant5 hello, does this work on E510 and E560? Though i can still print when it shows ink is out, but my printer just wont stop cleaning, which drinks all my refilled ink :(
thanks Ill try it. The holding down "stop" worked a few days ago. Now I keep getting "estimated ink levels" when hitting that button was supposed to ignore that.

it seems not a cartridge problem, but if you have another cartridge even empty, you can do a test. I would reinstall the printer driver
Thanks for your valuable info
how can i reset my canon pixma p200 ? holding stop btn doesn't work., i dont have 4 more cartridge
try hold the stop button for 2 minutes until you hear a "click". I don't know any other method to reset this cartridge
THANK YOU SO MUCH! PRESSING RESET BUTTON WORKS FOR ME! SAVED MY DAY!
Probably canon, with compatible cartridges or epson, if you are luck with the cartridge chips
Thank you very much! Both procedures worked for my printer
Help! what if I dun have those 4 extra cartridges ? any other alternatives? please help.
Sorry I don't know any alternative
reset bottom helped me thanks a lot!
Thank You it really worked! I really appreciate your simple but informative vid! :)
Keep up the good work!
good stuff, why buy new when can refill, good work mate! From Australia
Does this work with the Canon 745 cartridge..I thought that the cartridge itself has a memory..are u sure this 4 cartridge method will work with Canon pixma mg 2470..cause when I reset it's still showing low ink levels..
Yes, it works
Sounds like maybe can even read the ink levels again!
how about for mp237? is it okay to just reset it instead of buying a new one?
yes, it's possible to reset that cartridge using this method
oh i see...thank u..unfortunately i threw the cartridge yesterday..i guess i have to wait for the new cartridge until replacement..
Hello , my printer is HP 1050 can I use the cannon program for this printer . Any way thanks a lot for your valuable info
will keep you posted if problem still persist brgs Samy
yes. it's possible to use this method for HP printers. you need only 3 ink cartridges
I have canon E 460 its black ink is ran out so i refill it then warns ink ran out and printer sounds like printing but not print the paper if old cartridge is placed it works pls suggest
may be you overfilled it. try to draw some ink back using a syringe
is there a way to bypass the color cartridge? I tried only loading the black and it keeps giving me a color cartridge error message. i only want to use the black one for now but the printer wouldn't work without the two in place. I have the MX392
the method to reset color cartridges is the same, but you have to use 4 color cartridge.
Hi viandant5,
I need a small suggestion. My cartridge models are Canon 810 Black and 811 Color
try press the stop/reset button for one minute or more. if not, try this:
umplug the power cable, then press all buttons including power button. then in one hand plug the power cable. the printer should be ready to use again.
other method, enter in service mode:
power off the printer but make sure it's connected to a power source ,press the power button while pressing and holding the stop/reset button
When the power button is on, press the stop/reset button two times while pressing and holding the power button.
Mano Chandra Dhas th ebutton is STOP/RESET button, the one with the red triangle, at the right of the color button
Thank you, it worked for my Canon MP 280 with pressing power and cancel buttons together for 10 seconds. Awesome save me some $$$ :)
Did u refill the cartridges then this message came and you fixed it?
Hi mine is PIXMAMP540. The first time my ink ran out this worked. But this time it didnt. What should i do. I dont have any other cartridges to replace and replace. i only have one.
rica escobilla you can try to hold the stop button for 1 minute or more, or reinstall the printer driver. I dont't know any other reset method
Thank you so much viandant5 :)
Me sitting here thinking about all the cartridges I’ve thrown out……..😭
my canon always show that the cartridge cannot be recognized or not properly installed even I fix it already. what should I do?
+Shirly Jane Yambao probably the cartridge is defective. try hold the STOP button for one minute or more.
The trick of covering with tape, won't work for canon printers?
No, it will not work
Hi buddy....will this work for CANON MP287 model ...last four cartidge
yes, it work
Problem with canon 810 black print cartridge.
Thanks for u r quick reply my friend. U mean to say that there may be problem in cartridge head circuit and it still recognized well by printer.
yes, it the page is full blank
how will you know if the ink from your ink cartridge is running low? so that before it runs out I can refill it again... Canon properties show empty cartridges even if I newly refilled them
when the print quality becomes poor, the ink is runnig low. there is no another way, weight the cartridge is not so easy
oh thank you very much for the quick response...
i'm not sure i get the significance of the memory of only 4 cartridges....you're saying the memory had to start over again at 0, and will have no memories of previous chips?
+Diane R of the previous 4 chips
Jesus!!
Also can they be mixed color cartridges, or all same color?
This method only works with printer that have cartridge with print-head
Hartley thanks for uploading this video Thanks a lot once again
hello bro, how do we know ink level of refill cartridge? just look at the printing? or do the 4 cartridges then it will tell the level ink just like new cartridge?
No, this method will only cancel the error message
This didn't work for me. I have a Canon Pixma MP495 printer. I used 4 empty black ink cartridges that came from a different printer. I placed the 5th cartridge in that I had filled and the printer still wouldn't accept it. I am wondering why not.
viandant5 hello, does this work on E510 and E560? Though i can still print when it shows ink is out, but my printer just wont stop cleaning, which drinks all my refilled ink :(
Marcus Tan yes, it works. try hold STOP button for a minute
how about if my cartridge is ok but my printer did not recognize color cartridge ! what should we do ? in my printer ?
+Tyler Wood if this method does not work, probably the color cartridge is defective
can you do it without four cartridges, i have only two of them
No, you need 4 cartridges
so if you have 2 cartridges, you have to do this a total of 8 times?
+Diane R No, it will not work
Hi, I did exatly the same things, but i used remanufactured ink cartridges. It didn't work... Hawe u any ideas?
compatible cartridges made in china may not work. remanufactured cartridges should work, if the printer has no one of them in memory
I refilled the 241 canon carthridge & it works in regular paper but when I try to print pics they come out all red, no other color than red?????
Thank you! Thank you!
So an unrecognized cartridge is the same as an empty cartridge? Why then we get 2 different messages for the same issue?
an unrecognized cartridge is a defective cartridge, you cannot use it
my printer is not accepting the ink that i was injecting what will i do?
If you roll back or uninstall the driver then reinstall does it wipe all the cartridge info?
yes, sometime it works
thanks Ill try it. The holding down "stop" worked a few days ago. Now I keep getting "estimated ink levels" when hitting that button was supposed to ignore that.
hi i did exactly as u said but the lights for color and black ar still blinking,..what todo?
which printer do you have? it may be a defective cartridge
Thanks you very match !!!
This really helped !
