    For anyone wondering, mulligatawny originates from Tamilnadu, a state in south India - "milagu" and "tanni" which translates to pepper-water. This is Jamie's take on the dish and far from how it's actually made but it does seem like a hearty soup nonetheless!

      Back in 2005, when I was studying Hotel Management, I was surprised to hear the word, Mulligatawny, and immediately thought it has to have some Tamil connection.

    I am in houston, and it is extremely difficult to find Mulligatawny in restaurants, even though we have a perfectly enormous Indo/Pak community. Truly, I love this soup. It is odd that so few restaurants serve it here. Thank you.👍🏻💯👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤗🤗🤗💐🫶🏻🇺🇸

    Generally two kinds lentils, moong and musur is used, I haven't seen any recipe without those. This is definitely a hearty soup but I wouldn't call it Mulligatawny soup.

    • @QueennieMapula2000
      @QueennieMapula2000 Год назад +2

      I don't like bell peppers as well but not because I am allergic. It's because of the taste/flavor. Especially Green bell peppers because unlike Red peppers since they are sweet and ripe, Green peppers are unripe and got a slightly spicy and sour (?). I do love pizza with red bell peppers but not with green ones.

    Sopa de mandioca com frango è muito bom, você pica a mandioca em pequenos quadrinhos e coloca para cozinhar com os pedaços de frango e tempera com alho, cebola, um tomate picado, salsinha, cebolinha, um pouco de sal e um cubo de caldo de frango. Cozinhe bem e seja feliz 🇧🇷

    Milagu Thanni from Tamil has morphed into Mulligatawny ...but I have been using somewhat different recipe with green apples and vegetables....Jamie does say it's his version...not sure if I want to try what to me in Bangalore looks like a watered down version of rice and sambar...
    The smoother versions wherein we cook and blend the ingredients in a mixie and then garnish with cooked rice feel like soup.
    Just my bias I think.

      @@MohorMom is it spicy usually?

    • @Pammellam
      @Pammellam Год назад +4

      @@ashurafreedan I think it is generally spicy. It comes from two Tamil words: “Milagu” (pepper) and “tanni” (water) = pepper water. It is a curry flavored soup enjoyed by the British during the British Raj, 1858-1947. It is related to the Indian soup called Rasam. The soup was first made for British Soldiers, it is said, who refused to alter their way of eating demanding a soup at the start of the meal. The simpler versions have chicken or mutton, fried onions and spices and there are many more complex versions with many ingredients. Including lentils.
