- Episode 450. It is always fun when a bottle hits the shelf, and as a whisky person, you know nothing about it. I was in Costco and people were asking me if this was good ... I had nothing to say. Now, I have tasted the goods. Have you? What are your thoughts? #mgp #georgeremus #whiskyneighbour
I had a particular pick and fell in love with it. I doubt I'll find another barrel that good. Rossville is MGP's rye. Great review my friend.
I imagine they vary a fair amount between picks. This one is good, and I'm happy to pour a dram and relax with it.
Glad you're feeling better now Jon and thanks for getting up and about to bring us this video. That Remus has always stood out as one I'd like to try - and I will some day. I've had an awful week, but I''m trying to keep my spirits up with watching and doing things that make me smile - as your vids do. My best mate Roger, who is my daughter's Godfather, suddenly passed away on Friday at the young age 46. He'd been battling cancer and fighting strong, but the end was very quick. Thanks for doing what you do mate. It helps in more ways sometimes than you realise. Cheers.
Your words grounded me. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I will pray for you, and Roger's family. Thank you for dropping in when you can. For the words of encouragement and friendship. They mean so much. Cheers.
@@WhiskyNeighbour likewise brother & thanks again 🙏🥃
Glad you are feeling better, hope the best for you and your family my friend 👍
Thanks!
Glad to see you’re on the mend, Jon. Always appreciate your insights. I bet these single barrels vary widely.
No Doubt. This was good enough that I would buy another SB to see how it changes. Thanks for the good wishes. I'm ... frustrated how often I have been sick this past month. Hoping this is the last for a while!
I enjoy the heck out of my local store pick of cask strength George Remus! It's the higher corn mashbill, though (21% rye I believe). Has a really nice mix of rich fruit and sweetness I find -- quite surprised me over time that one. Cheers Jon!
Very cool. I hope I see more picks up here that represent the variety I'm sure they have in their casks. Enjoy the week!
I’m not well versed in barrel strength bourbons. Mines super tasty but drinks very hot to me. IMO its a great bourbon for the $45 price I paid for it.
That's great! Thanks for sharing your experience with these
Looks like you're doing MUCH better than you were. Very happy to see it. May you stay on the upswing!
Won't likely see the G Remus, but Bulleit is usually available. Right now the regular, the Barrel Strength, and the 10-year-old are in stores here. The regular bottles are a lot smaller, $25 for 375 ml. That makes the juice inside rather expensive. The Barrel Strength is obviously quite a bit more money, but in some ways the better deal.
I just picked up Gooderham and Worts Four Grain and Teeling S-Batch Rum Cask at a good price. Checked your back reviews on both of these, and I'm looking forward to trying them. I've never had the chance to try Teeling, as it's rarely seen in Ontario.
Definitely sounds like life is a bit nuts for you out there, not likely much you can do about that. You certainly are not alone in this! All we can do is savour the quiet relaxing moments when possible.
Wishing you a whole week of restful sleeps! 😴
Cheers Jon 🥃🥃

Thanks, I am MUCH better, and now I need to stay that way. Too much to do at work and at home for sure. I hope you enjoy each of those bottles. It's been a while since I've had a bottle of Gooderham and Worts, but I love all the special releases that build on their core. It is hard everywhere, and really, I have it good. Solid job, family that keeps me honest, and more than my share of good whisky. Thanks for dropping in, and I hope you week is excellent too!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Finally got to watch the OSWA's. Pick of the year...GS Victoriana! My top vote, and what a whisky it is! Mind you, they were all fantastic offerings. Couldn't go wrong with any of them.
By the bye, caught the cameo. Well done and nicely presented. You did us proud! 🇨🇦
@@onewomanswhisky It's tough to admit, but I have not had GS Victoriana. I hear amazing things, but it's never been on the shelf when I was looking for it! Thanks for the encouragement. It was shot quickly and over exposed, but the feelings were genuine!
Great review! Recently picked up the OHIO liquor agency barrel pick here in Cincinnati. So much better than standard GR. The Repeal batches are even better, but 💰 😢.
Be well…..
I thought this one a solid value, and certainly worth having. I have had a sample of the Repeal batches, but never a bottle. Great Bourbon, but as you said, pricey! Thanks for the good wishes, I hope your week is great!!
According to the guy who does the "Bourbon World" channel on RUclips, the regular George Remus (47% ABV) is six years old. I don't imagine the cask strength one is a different age. Also, about your comment that MGP "owns" Ross & Squibb. Not exactly. MGP literally IS Ross & Squibb. Same distillery building, same stills being used. When the company decided they were going to start selling their own official bottlings of their whiskey, they also decided they didn't want to use the MGP name on the bottles. So they invented the Ross & Squibb name and did all the appropriate legal paper work to be able to call themselves Ross & Squibb on their bottles and on the paper work involved in distributing their bottles. So it isn't a legal "name change." They still use "MGP" on all the paper work involved in selling their whiskey to other bottlers. Bizarre.
Thanks for the providing more information. Cheers!
