I started about 5 years ago, learning from the Kali Center youtube videos and Kali Center University. When I think of stick fighting, Kali always comes to mind.
Paul, many thanks for another one of your excellent and informative videos. There are many unqualified so called instructors on You Tube right now who are incorrectly teaching the martial arts disciplines to the masses. It is really wonderful to have The Kali Center. Paul, I really enjoy practicing Kali and how you are able to logically integrate the didactical teachings of Kali as you parallel those teachings with the clinical aspect thru " Drills / Hand to Hand Combat / Weapons Training " in a real time scenario of workouts that you instill in me. Paul, please keep them coming along.
Paul I feel like I am with u then something makes me drive off the road. I do jump back in my seat and try to refresh. Bernard in Virginia but not leaving until I get it. Thank u sir!
I love teaching these drills! They are so easy once you get passed the mental block. I also love the sum brada flow! You can use that drill for teaching so many disarms in a more combative format!
Back in the 80's trained for a short time in modern arnis, also trained off video Sayaka kali ( 3of 9 ). Kali as a name is good.always assumed a hindu connection.
🤯 It is so hard go fast like Paul even with chopsticks to swing around in the kitchen. Just so I don't break anything...and thus didn't get yelled by missus. Happy holiday and keep on practicing Sinawali everyone 😀
My systems come from the Visayan area so eskrima is the chosen name. Derobio eskrima is from Leyte and Balintawak eskrima from Cebu. Balintawak eskima broke away from Dose Pares eskrima due to personal and philosophical differences, but both use eskrima as their name.
@@khevinjayevangelista49 what about other Kali lineages and Kuntao/Kuntaw? Or the moro fighters and their style? I don't know much so my curiosity is honest I'm coming with respect and seeking knowledge not trying to troll you. Have a nice day!
Kali (minor slanted angles) Red end fir soft vulnerable areas and black colored ends for Pressure points. Kali was the original Filipino term. Arnis (tapered ends) & Escrima (Rounded ends) were dawned by outsiders. That is what I was taught. What is your take?
in Philippines Arnis is most common terminology. Kali is commonly known or used in abroad. Escrima is commonly used in Visayan part of the Philippines. I love to use kali terminology coz it is known internationally.
Related to the beginning question about which term to use. I’ve always seen these as the differences between Kali, Escrima, and Arnis. 1) Kali is roughly the core guerilla martial arts that encompasses the various methodologies practiced in all the Filipino Martial Arts. From double stick and blade, shield and spear, knife, and open hand, but there seems to be a strong focus on the 10th hand, or Monk’s hand, not the weapon as the primary combat control. 2) Arnis is Kali but with the incorporated Spanish armor/weapon tactics and skills you see replicated in modern HEMA. It’s still based on Kali but there is more of the focus on combat using the padding and gloves as a protective armor and less on focus on the subtle nuance you see in Kali. 3) Escrima is similar to Arnis except the incorporation of classic fencing tactics and skills. There is a higher focus on mobility and lunging entries while less direct attention to the 10th hand since the body manages distance and control. Of course, this is my interpretation and has no real, documented research behind it. Just the differences I’ve noted. I would say Paul’s background is more Escrima, using these terms, but that’s not limiting in any way. While, I’d say Doug Marcaida and Jared Wihongi represent more of the traditional Kali just for contrast. Like I said, nothing to take away from any of this, just the approach of each of the styles and my observations seeing a lot of them on display.
BTW Khali, Kali or similar are the name of the sticks lol. Arnis means Arnes which is the armor used for esgrima (spanish sword fight). And Eskrima comes from Esgrima, since it was invaded by Spain most of the words comes from spanish.
My system LSAI (Ligthning Scientific Arnis Internstional) come from Legendary SFGM. Ben Lema my group is WMAC (Warrior's Martial Arts Corporation) my Master is SFGM. Paul, you've got to be the top resource on youtube for beginner Kali lessons. Very well explained and demonstrated. Keep up the great work.
I like eskrima because it is fun to say
Love eskrima as a weapon system and martial art in general. techniques seem so universal
I say Kali, because my teacher also uses this word
As someone with dyslexia kali is the easiest to remember how to write it
Kali is my reference of choice.
When I start practicing the art it was called "kali escrima" so that name is still in my heart

I'm comfortable with KALI

Good display sir, love to learn this art.
Apart from terminology, always great form and flow! True deal
Nice to see Kali instructors join forces together and compete at AGT for the promotion of the art
Arnis was the best name taught back in high school.
Excellent video Paul
All terms are cool but for me Kali is "The Term"!!

My favorite terminology is Kali because I'm mindanawan ...
Kali is the acronym of ka-mot and li-hok or in English ( hands & movement) martial art.
It really doesn't matter to me but I like the sound of Kali. Love that "V" strike. It seems like the missing link in the timing of this drill.
Favorite term: Kali

In Butuan City the old folks called it Escrema or Kali...👍
Arnis is actually a Spanish art
Paul, could you make a video about count? Essential count or, maybe, a top five?
I liked 👌👌👌 the superior game KALI
Yeah this drill is awesome Paul. Id hate to be the one getting blasted by those sticks!💀

Filipino martial arts is the best.
nice
foe: falls on the floor
kali fighter: goes full earth 6 on his face
would be devastating. wow.
This transfers well to sword and scabbard.

What do you consider standard length?
I mostly use Kali / FMA, or FMA /Kali.
I think the word kali just sounds cooler. Lol. But it doesn't really matter to me. I've had instructors for Pekiti Tirsia Kali and modern arnis.
I USE THE TERM KALI
Arnis.
How can we order 28"" kali sticks to receive by UPS, not non-reliable USPS?
In the southern Philippines, escrima- arnis is the more popular terminology
Arnis/Kali/Escrima/Eskrima/Sinawali has other version, and it's called "Doce Pares".
Go, research it.
arnis is appropriate
I use "kali" as a term

Kali for me but I describe myself as eskrimador (because I don't know if there is a practicioneer's name based on kali)
On the lower ground... I'm sure Anakin Skywalker would know a thing or two about this 😂
Escrima
This is Rattan stick?? Can i know??
Kali
🤙🤙🤙🤙both
I prefer Arnis.
Kali is meant for bladed weapons, if you are holding sticks, you can call it Escrima or Arnis,
Kali.
Does anybody have coldsteel are they better than rattan uk shane 🇬🇧 ❤❤respect
