      @@DrSt-mu4zw At which point it will still be Kali/FMA. The stick, while effective in itself, also simulates the blade. If the heroine in the story moves from rattan to bolo, she'll be perfectly following the tradition of kali.

    • @nikolab.4065
      @nikolab.4065 3 года назад +3

      Yeah, but nothing is more known for using sticks than kali. And design-wise, Raya's sticks actually look like sticks you can find FMA practitioners using, while other MAs I've seen using sticks use only bland ones without any markings (sometimes not even made from rattan). Just by looking at them, you can tell Raya's sticks are rattan sticks for FMA and not for something else. And Raya absolutely HAS TO use the sword, because that is essentially the point of FMA, get good with the stick -> transition to the blade. I don't really care that people don't get it and mistake the art for wushu or something, but it's better to show the true, accurate, representation of kali than lead people to believe it's only a stickfighting art.

    "Make nature your kali dojo". I just realized that a lot of arnis practioners here in the philippines do follow this. I used to see a lot of them when I had the time to go to public parks here in manila particularly at the quezon memorial circle. Not sure though now especially when the general community quarantine was imposed here starting march :(
    Thanks again for your inspiring video. Yep! Me and my kids are quite pumped up as well by raya; can't wait to show them your video on this! Mabuhay po kayo!

    Doing formal martial arts training I started becoming mechanical in my movements from doing forms by the numbers. Doing FMA has brought more flow into everything. Funny but my energy conservation has improved by having natural flow. There is no way I can over state the value of this.

      I did similar but with 1" red oak dowels, they are tougher and condition you better than poplar which is very soft and prone to denting and splintering upon contact. I recently got the 1.5" dowel to make a pair of short studded batons for easier packing and concealment when I travel.

    I practice out on the porch I call it the Covid special. I execute some Tai Chi and apparently there is a movie called Avatar that has Tai Chi and a lot of people saw it. Kids love the sticks and old folks like the Tai Chi. Sword is underdone in Tai Chi. You can learn Tai Chi and you will probably never learn how to fight sword. Some people practice "fencing" on the side to learn how to use sword. I practice Silat, Escrima, Tai Chi and Bagua.

    Take note bro, escrima is the palm technique. Arnis is using the bam or ratan sticks. When our ancient king ordered his right hand general to taught the indonesian and malaysian princes the art of arnis then they called it Kali.
    Im a yaro-tinik practitioner. Another filipino martial art that is now dying because of our ancient rules. Only the master can select his/her student. We use a very long slender sharp bamboo stick as the main weapin and three smaller sharp sticks as the secondary. The four sticks are used in a very fast alternate strikes. Some debated that it is the one that should be called escrima.
