    Barry is one of a kind. Trying to compare him the other RBs is a waste of time lol.

    The Tampa Bay player who had a clean 1 v 1 and got his ankles, knees, *and* hips broken, was John Lynch.
    Dude was a 9 time pro bowler, and a straight up headhunter. And Barry made my man look *STUPID* .
    I saw Barry during his senior season. He had 360 yards and six touchdowns on about 30 carries... And his team *LOST* by 21 points. At the end of the game, eighty thousand Nebraska fans rose as one, and gave him a standing ovation. Every person there knew they had just watched a legend do his thing.

      John Lynch famously said that Superman couldn't tackle Barry in a phone booth... and Lynch is a long way from the only Hall of Famer that Barry made look like an idiot.

    Barry had some of the most electric 2 yd runs in the history of the NFL

  • @markmccollough1017
    @markmccollough1017 Год назад +10

    Barry played 10 years, rushed for 1k+ yards all 10 years, made pro bowl all 10 years, 1st or 2nd team All Pro all 10 years, Rookie of the year, MVP. He missed 5 games one year and still had over 1115 yards rushing. Best pure runner ever.
    Emmitt finished with the yardage record but Emmitt played 5 more seasons and had 1400 more carries than Barry in their careers and only 3000 more yards.

  • @markmccollough1017
    @markmccollough1017 Год назад +9

    Emmitt had much more help than any other top RB in history.
    Emmitt Smith had offensive teammates selected to 44 pro bowls with 25 by his line.
    Barry Sanders had offensive teammates selected to 11 pro bowls with 6 by his line.
    Walter Payton had offensive teammates selected to 7 pro bowls with 5 by his line.

      Walter Payton played with a FAR worse O-line, FAR worse QBs and FAR worse WRs for his first 8 seasons compared to Barry. Plus Walter was the team's premiere receiver. And he blocked on plays he wasn't running or receiving. So yes, Barry is the greatest breakaway running back of all-time. No question he's top 3 all time. But Walter did everything. And for the first eight seasons he did it with far less help.

    • @bruun1974
      @bruun1974 11 месяцев назад

      Equally important as the Dallas O-line was Hall of Fame QB and an aerial attack that would punish you if you tried to stop Emmit. Barry had shit for QBs his entire career. There were good receivers, but defenses didn't have to fear them as much because of the QBs.

  • @MariaScreamapova
    @MariaScreamapova Год назад +7

    Barry "AVERAGED" 1,527 yards a season, and considering a 1,500 yard rushing season is very elite. He retired after only 10 seasons, if he played 2 more seasons, he would own the record, Emmitt played forever. The most underrated part of Barry's game was how powerful he was. He retired because they fired Head Coach Wayne Fontes

    They used to say "oh Barry's too short to be anything in the NFL"... Fools. His center of gravity was much lower than just about every defender and with his tree trunk powerful legs and out of this world abilities already on display his final year in college, he made a lot of people eat their words... And yeah. If he had been on a team where he wasn't the only true threat, say my Niners back then with first joe then Steve throwing balls to an amazing receiving core featuring Jerry Rice to keep defenses honest and not stacking the line of scrimmage... Forget about it. He would've had Super Techmo Bowl like numbers.

    I want to add that first, Berry Sanders did this back when players could destroy each other and outside of the most grievous of hits, there was no penalty. Second, Berry never "celebrated" in the Endzone. He always handed or lightly tossed the football to the Ref. Finally, his story is heartbreaking because all he ever wanted from his father was his father's respect, admiration, praise, love...... and his father always said that his favorite player was others, not his son....... (P.s. Berry Sanders retired because he felt that the owners/managers made decisions that kept the team from Super Bowl contention.)

    The Lions put some quality players on the field with him from time to time, but never the whole package at one time. You're absolutely right that he'd have shattered the record book with consistently good teams. As it was, he usually had one or two decent to good linemen, and sometimes some good receivers to force a little of the focus off stopping him, but a lot of the time he just had to make his own opportunities. Honestly, some of his best blockers were guys like Perriman and Moore downfield.
