Barry crossed people over like it was basketball. Also, if you notice he was horse collar tackled a lot in that video, that's illegal now. If Barry played now he would have had even more yards and TD's because they were horse collaring him back in the day to stop him. If Barry didn't retire when he did he could have broken every rushing record there is. Many people have him as the GOAT running back even though he never won a ring. He was a human cheat code.

That's because Barry was shackled with the shittiest team in the NFL! The Lions haven't won a Super Bowl since 1957. I'm from Michigan and Barry got a bad deal from the head office to begin with. He was to that better players would be gotten around him. Like he was going to be the core but year after year would billionaire Ford family cough out enough money. But they did the same with Calvin Johnson.

One thing he was so good at that got overlooked by all the things he did was the ability he had to shift the ball to the other hand. He literally did this while in his moves. If that doesn't tell you how great he was above the rest, than nothing does!!!
This is probably the main reason he didn't fumble that often. Players could learn alot just by watching him

Barry Sanders is incredibly kind and humble. Spoke to me for a few minutes at an event. Walter Payton "Sweetness" is his favorite running back. They say he's 5' 8" but that may be generous.

  • @chrishart2280
    @chrishart2280 Год назад +4

I think the most overlooked statistic in Barry's career has to be this. 3062 career rushing attempts with only 22 lost fumbles. That stat is amazing, but when you take in account his running style, how many times he was hit in the backfield, and that every defense played 8 or more in the box against him, it just makes even more unbelievable. Plus that NFC Central division (as it was called in the 90's) was known as the black and blue division because of how good the defenses were.

  • @jasongCLJ

He was the .... .. prime example of the protype 'eat west' running back ~~ that not only i patterned my game after essentially ... but came the closest ive ever seen to the 'pure agility' type of running back that is extremely extremly ...tough to even make it to the pros when you run like that from the backfield. (because most coaches require you to 'always run forward' or they get upset with ya.
    ~
~ Because when you get beat it can look really bad ..taking a four yard loss..when a straight up RB may have gotten one yard atleast. ..Even B.Sanders had plenty of those type of losses .. but all of his super big runs still left him with a great average somehow. x)
Thurman Thomas was really good in that too .. but no one took the chances ..having the confidence to actually make the most difficult cults ..as Barry did.
And ofcourse to run in that style you hAVe to have top notch foot speed.
🥁 Im suprised this clip didnt have more of his ..more famous cuts ..that made people crazy fans of his .....
and that was his ,more rare times when he was clearly beat behind the line but he scrambled back and forth to get a gain.
    Ahh theres one - #5 .

He created so much separation with his elusiveness, he'd get people's feet in the wrong place, then accelerate away and create a huge gap heading into the secondary, looking really fast while he did it. Then, 40 yards later, Barry would get caught from behind. He has more 80 yard non scoring runs than anyone in NFL history.

Best ever! Could of had all the records and probably most would have never been broken but he wasn’t about that. I remember he could of had the rushing record one year but the Lions had a huge lead the last game so he sat out like the 4th quarter and instead Christian Okaye won it. His team wanted him to keep playing but he didn’t want to pile on the opposing team for an individual record. Same reason he always handed the ball to the ref after a TD instead of dancing. “Act like you’ve been there” was his reason.

I swear Barry used to make it a point to torch Tampa Bay whenever they played. Lol

He didn't act like an idiot when he got in the end zone, he gave the ball to the ref like he was supposed to be there.. ALL BUSINESS FOR HIM.

I had the honor & the privilege to watch Barry Sanders play his entire career in Detroit . The problem with the Lions at this time was , they really didn't have a great offensive line . They had a good offensive line but it could have been a lot better . I mean they had some great receivers like Johnny Morton , Mel Gray , Brett Perryman . They had some better than good quarterbacks like Eric Kramer , Charlie Batch & Scott Mitchell & they had some great defensive line men & linebackers . But it was first & for most not having an offensive line & second it was & still is the secondary can't hold on to a lead .

Barry was basically a point guard who happened to play football.

Barry should've had the all time rush yards, he retired early because he didn't want to go above Walter Payton. He had respect for Payton, he didn't want to break the record after Payton died.

Barry had that extra gear in the open field. You can literally see the kick and the pump as he activates it.
Open field or no, it was impossible to catch the guy.
