    Hey Tristan, continuing to enjoy your videos,as I said in past videos we are building a cottage here in Canada ,I have taken many of your ideas and thanks to you going first has taken some of the challenges away , question I have is when you did the under side of the porch why didn't you nail in the tongue and glue the groove to hide the nails ?

    • @TheDIYCabinGuy
      @TheDIYCabinGuy  11 месяцев назад +1

      That’s a good point. Typically when installing tongue and grove inside, it gets installed with finish nails that are hidden.
      Outside though, it might not be recommended as the wood will be exposed to changes of temperature, and the outside is general. The wood will expand and contract a lot more, face nailing it with siding nail will hold a lot better than finish nails at the groove.
      Some people still do it with finish nails outside, not sure how well it would hold up over time. I wouldn’t trust it but maybe I’m wrong.

    Maybe a fake beam from your timbers to the front of the cabin wall could camouflage the peak of your tongue and groove?

      That’s outside, so no insulation, there will be insulation inside the cabin of course

    Are you face nailing these? Nail through the tongue and interlock the next one.

    • @TheDIYCabinGuy
      @TheDIYCabinGuy  11 месяцев назад

      I decided to not do that because it’s all outside and will expand/contract so face nailing will keep everything in place a lot better than some finish nails would. At least, that’s what I think 😅

    Looks good 👍 there is a strong chance that we will use T&G extensively when we build in the next couple of years although we will most likely paint most of it.
