I never thought I would live to see the day that VCRs would become collectable. I saw a video that shango posted yesterday that had a 1964 VCR in a prop warehouse FULL with thousands of vintage electronics very interesting to see.

Wow, what a collection of vintage TVs and VCRs!!
The greatest part of that video was seeing VCRs with analog clocks / timers again. The first VCR I ever saw as a kid was with an analog clock / timer and rotary channel selectors.

A beautiful pair, and great job on the restoration.

The song played during the radio station commercial is "Music Box Dancer" by Frank Mills, a #3 hit in 1979.

Great to see videos from you again, Spats. For some reason RUclips hid your channel content from my favorites, even though I am a Patreon for your channel. RUclips is crazy.

Nice job with the resto and that is such a classic 70's TV.

Gorgeous machine. Glad to see a full resto on this, definitely a model that deserves it.
And I'm with you on Sanyo - mediocre across all their products.

1:01:26 . . . I still remember that CBS special movie presentation intro!!!
That tape was a great find. A real time capsule.

Memories. My father bought this setup new in the 80s. I may still have the camera somewhere.

Thank you for this video! I found one of these VCR's recently. I got it mechanically working (belt issues of course), loads smoothly and plays with sound but no picture, and I was about to start diagnosing if I can find a service manual -- but it looks like I should start with a recapping. So, where did you find the service manual? I'm looking all over Google, and all I can find is a SAMs copy for sale. The manual you're using looks like it may be much better than SAMs -- can you tell me where you bought it, or can I get a copy from you?

Yeah i noticed that recently how the model number prefix for Funai was the same as the old Hitachi one. Funai was also 304 according to a garage gazette forum post i found.

That’s correct. 304 at that time was for their audio products. I have a Funai Sears stereo from 1984 that is a sleeper. I will be doing a video on that later on.

Admittedly when it comes to Betamax VCRs I’m Sony loyal but this is ok too. I need a power supply or tuner timer unit for my SLO-340 portapak to see if it works. I got the combo SL-2000 and HVC-2200 camera and it works really well. I love the 80s home movie look it makes but I wish I had a battery pack to walk around with them. I got the PCM recorder for the SL-2000 too.

My family had (may still have) one of those. I damaged the camera by pointing it at the sun when hit kept saying Low Light.

@@LakeNipissing That one! Also the Evil Dead reel to reel would be nice. Audio nerd forums can't identify the "tape recorder for special music" from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but I used to have the Uher rtr seen in the film.
