Elephant Standoff: Lundi vs Buffalo 🐘

- On a scorching day in mid-September, the elephants knew a swim was the perfect remedy. While the herd was content sharing the water with hippos and buffalo, Lundi had other ideas, trying her best to chase away a stubborn buffalo that refused to budge. Fast forward to today, and the waterhole has completely dried up due to the harsh drought. As we await much-needed rain, we’re pumping water into some waterholes to support the herd and all the wildlife on the reserve.

Lundi has shown amazing talents with her throwing skills over the years. Seeing her throw water and now sand is hilarious and shows her intelligence.

Whoa what a difference one month can make at the waterhole! It was awesome seeing Lundi defend the spot! Praying for rains to soon come! What an enormous obligation to pump water into places. Bless you all for your unending support not only for the HERD ellies, but the surrounding wildlife as well!

Funny Lundi and her constant vigilance against the buffalos. 🤣 I liked her feint of nonchalance and throwing dust in the air although that buffalo was really brave and totally unphased by her bravado. She could have just enjoyed the water like everyone else. 😂 That lone buffalo wasn't going to cause any harm.
The contrast of the waterhole from what it was a few months ago is quite striking. Here in BC 🇨🇦 , we have entered our winter which is usually very wet with a lot of rainfall. In the wild, eles can sniff out water over long distances and even underground (the holes they dig can then be used by other animals and humans to get at the water). They also remember routes to water from many years ago. Magical eles. ❤️🐘❤️

Oh no! The watering hole and surrounding area is like a desert. It hit hard to see the difference in one month of heat and sun with no rain. The joy of water play in September did a 180 degree turn in October. I'm so sorry. Thank you for demonstrating how serious this drought is.😢❤❤❤

Oh Lundi, you flunked the lesson about water sharing, but you excel at stubborn intimidation. That buffalo deserves points for staking his claim, but was wise to scram when team Lundi approached the playing field. At least the group of hippos were having a good laugh in the water while they wagered their bets. "Hey Harold, I bet you 2 floating ducks that the ellie wins". "OK Marvin, I'll bet 3 snapping turtles that the buffalo charges". Lundi doesn't play fair by throwing dirt in buffalo eyes. All she had to do was call for Mambo and the chase around the sacred water hole would have been ON! Great fun!

Lundi 🐘 is doing everything she can to get that buffalo 🐃 to move on. But it stood its ground against her. But then when the other elephants 🐘 went to help her it decided to move on.
Wow what a difference a month makes looking at the dam in September and then again in October. It is so sad to see the water holes drying up. Thank you for keeping a few with water in them. That is something the animals cannot live without.

It was wonderful to see them swim, all of them, Zindoga the ladies man, Lundi and the buffalo, and the herd go to cover her back. The narration was beautiful and sounded perfect.
But I was afraid that last scene was coming, and it brought tears. I guess they are fortunate for your help. Now I wonder how the hippos cope.
It has been very dry here in the American Midwest as well, especially since June. I worry about wildfires here almost daily.
I read yesterday this has been the worst drought in SA in 40 years. Immediately thought of the Jabulani herd and the wild ellies too. 🙏🏾 🙏🏾 praying for rain.

Wow that water hole used to be like 5 feet deep (or more). It's crazy that is all dried up so much that its hard and crunchy to walk on. I really do hope that you're able to provide enough water to the animals around the reserve until MoNa provides enough rain to replenish the area. (MoNa=Mother Nature).
