I reviewed both cars and did a test drive myself and, without a doubt, I'd choose Odyssey. Kia has a bit more features, but Honda wins for overall ride, comfort, and handling and obviously the value for the money.
This was an excellent review! It covered a lot of little things that I've not found in any other reviews. Currently have a 2019 Odyssey and i have to say the driving experience in this car is second to none. The power is phenomenal for ANY vehicle ... never mind a van. HOWEVER ... I absolutely HATE HATE the look of the Odyssey ... have never liked it from day one. (it was my wifes choice) Since I want a SUV but the wife insists on getting yet ANOTHER minivan (sigh) the look of the Carnival is the closest thing to an SUV as any other mini van out there. The only thing (for me) that is the big advantage of the Odyssey is the resale value and I must admit that's a biggee. The famed reliability of the Odyssey was not the case for us cause we've had just as much problems with it as any other car we've owned.
Agreed. We own a 20 EX-L and besides the issues with our stereo system which still haven't been resolved after almost 5 years an 100K miles, reliability has been great. We spent at least 3 months hard, looking into each minivan, and at the time, we really wanted the Sienna on the outgoing body. But after EVERY Toyota dealership we went to in the 75 mile radius all treating us like crap, and then finally getting to drive one (that was on less than 15 miles-to-empty) we went with the Odyssey. The middle seats, even the jump seat, is insanely comfortable. The seats move side-to-side and can all be removed which is a huge plus for 3 kids, along with the stadium style seating they brought back from decades ago. My biggest issues with this thing is the HVAC system and how outdated things feel, even when it was only a couple years old for the refresh. The HVAC system takes YEARS to get warm in the cold on auto, and even longer in the summer to cool down. The vents aren't in the greatest of spots, and the airflow is mainly coming from the front, and more like the feeling of an overhead air valve on a plane, than any real feeling in the back. It gets drafty in the cold, even at 74/75 degrees, and same in the summer when it feels like 66 isn't catching up (since new). And the tech in this thing feels worse than my 2018 Crosstrek I finally traded in as my daily. And that's saying something since they aren't keen on updating either. I love that Kia includes some super cool and convenient features and great HVAC systems in their vehicles, but at the resale and possibility of having to wait months for replacement engines and repairs, I don't think I'll go with the Kia this time around either. As much as we like it. I was truly hoping for them to do something like the 2.0t in the Accord and hybrid it up like they did in the CR-V but still keep the performance of the Accord like usual. But that's clearly not coming for another year or 2. AWD would be great, but at that point we can just hop in our truck.
Practically the same besides the new upgraded ones with 2n row passengers where the Odyssey is poor, and the Kia is marginal. Simply search either one of these vans and IIHS and it's the video that has all 4 minivans on the cover.
@path8817 good info for folks who don't know, though when doing comparisons and assigning scores like this video does, factoring in these safety ratings seems important, especially for a family mover minivan. Cheers
Interesting to see this comparison. We just bought a 2025 Honda Odyssey Sport (in Canada) over the 2025 Kia Carnival LX+ a few weeks ago. We were coming from a 2004 Toyota Sienna LE8 that we had involuntarily totaled off in a fender bender. A Sienna was off the table as the wait times were 8 months for FWD and 2 years(!) for AWD. To us, it felt like Kia threw features at you like spaghetti at a wall, hoping it would stick. The Odyssey, in contrast, felt like a more refined experience. I really thought we would end up on the Carnival given invoice pricing and preponderance of feature. However, Kia wanted a $10K premium above and beyond which made it an easy decision to get the Odyssey with its leather seats, sunroof, rear seat entertainment and power lift gate which the Carnival did not have in its trim. I really like the Odyssey's digital/analog combination intrument cluster, not repurposing the climate/audio controls and using actual buttons for the climate controls rather than touch sensitive panel. I had watched your individual reviews of the 2025 Odyssey and 2025 Carnival and found them to be much better overviews of the features than I got at the dealerships! 😀
We went with an odyssey as well coming from a 2013 odyssey that we put 320k miles on. It still ran just fine when we sold it but we were ready for a new vehicle. The reliability of Hondas made it a no brainer for us. Honda and Toyota are more reserved when it comes to adding new features making sure they are fully refined and problem free before release which explains why they have less features for the money.
Given that the Carnival's engines are prone to needing full replacements, with those taking 3-6 months or longer to get in, while most dealerships don't offer courtesy vehicles, I'd take my chances with staying with an Odyssey.
Will Kia carnival be introducing an AWD option in the future? Also, in cold-weather regions like Indiana, Chicago, Minnesota, would it be problematic not to have AWD? Can you provide some guidance?
Odyssey... all the way, by far the finest Maxi Van made. The 10-speed transmission is just incredible and unrivaled by any other manufacturer. It looks very nice on the outside but I would avoid the Kia for resell value alone. Also there's just no comparison the Honda engine is so much more refined and dependable in the long run.
Great video! Thank you!!! I've been waiting for the new Honda to come out and was debating between going with these two vehicles. I can't thank you enough for comparing every angle to make my decision even easier!!! Thank you!!!!
@CarConfections great video!. been reading up way too much about Carnival these past few months so already felt it was the winner but nice to see this. Personally feel the Kia could've won extra points on the ceiling vents since that's a big pain point for the Odyssey especially if you have little kids in car seats. Would love if you guys could do a night review for the Carnival! Given the updated front lights, I'm curious how you would compare the non-SX Prestige trims to the 2024 models that had a "Poor" rating for visibility. thanks!
Question for minivan customers. How important is it to have the built in rear entertainment system? I feel like nowadays everyone has iPads and fire tablets so it may not be as big of a necessity as it used to. But let me know if I’m wrong.
How did you gets skip over the autonomous driving feature of the kia carnival sxp prestige? That is a huge feature, self drives almost like a Tesla. That's a BIG feature....
Kia does not offer an autonomous driving system or any kind of hands-free right now. HDA 2.0 is excellent driver assistance but it still requires the driver's participation at all times.
@@CarConfections you only have to touch the steering wheel every 30 seconds to 1 minute, otherwise its hands free. its still a great feature to compare and mention
I own a 2015 odyssey elite. Hands down the best minivan EVER. Carnival will never compare to reliability and driving dynamics of Honda. 430,000 plus km and still going strong. Reg maintenance is key. Saying that I love the design of kia/Hyundai vehicles but they are not reliable nor drive decent. They have design as a selling feature. As you can see im a Honda fan but truly the ride is best in class for a minivan and get up to speed with no problems.
I recently rented the Honda for 8 days and about 750 miles. I strongly disliked the push button transmission, I never got used to it. You have to think about what to do every-single-time you use it. The memory seat was a pain, I had to push the seat memory button every time I started the van, and even then it never went to the correct position. Maybe there was something in the owner’s manual about how to use it, but Enterprise Rental conveniently left it out of the glove box. I thought, “but hey, it has a V-6!” When I got home and first drove my Toyota Highlander Hybrid (which “only” has a four cylinder) I was shocked about how much quicker it felt, probably because of the electric motor assist. There was no comparison, unless you really need the room get a 3-row SUV. (IMO)
8 days are not enough to get used to the shifter. That being said, once you get used to the buttons, you can’t go back to the traditional shifter for the exact reason you dislike it. You can push the buttons without looking down.

Honda looks dated in and out. This is no different than the one made in 2015. The front looks dated as well, like they didn't even try. The designers for the Honda all went on vacation. So they chose to use the same design as the 2020 model.
I loved my Element, but the Odyssey has had issues. My computer kept messing up. Had guidlines after I shifted out of reverse back into drive. Sometimes the rear camera wouldnt switch off at all. Then all my dash lights flashed and my transmission wouldnt shift. Scared the crap out of my kids. Didnt know if we'd make it home. Something must have glitched… I wish I had taken a screen shot… the video I was watching was only about the Carnival but the title was the “vs.”. I’m seeing it again now and yes, it’s a comparison… Thanks!

Sienna has all those plus awd and super high mpg. I wish there was a Sienna V6 hybrid, or Odyssey with V6 hybrid plus the missing features.
Honda and Toyota are very comfortable with their position in the market that don't provide any innovation in any area like infotainment, security, driving and others. I would never buy a 90' look car because it will rest for 20 years. Usually, people change their vehicle in 5 years. Lol..
Test drove both the 2025 Honda Odyssey elite and 2025 Kia hybrid SX. Really wanted to to get the Kia but after test driving both - I thought the elite felt more quiet like wind noise and maybe less firm. So, I'm not sure anymore. Also, the back seats are easier to move around in the Honda. It just seems like the Honda is a little bit more well built.
Although it’s still no real comparison, you didn’t mention the tailgate mode of the rear seat of the odyssey; they can be locked in a chair configuration facing out the back for tailgating!
I’d get the Kia, since it looks a lot nicer, also super practical, also has a V6, and is actual newer while the Honda feels outdated and ancient inside. Nothing wrong with that, but if I want the odyssey, I’d get a good, low miles, 2-4 yearused one that’s basically the same.
For kia to make more sales they had to make it look fancy, but I'm driving a 2019 Honda odyssey elite due to reliability, better resale, and parts and services are cheaper then kia because all kia parts will have to come from Korea.
I’m shocked at all the things you value as minor (0.5 point) vs major (1 point) differences. The magic slide feels like a 2 point feature improvement but you only give 0.5 point. Also, families would not benefit from the Kia VIP seating but you casually chuck on another 0.5 for Kia for have that option.
I know you gave points to that dash and infotainment system, but the fact that it's all one screen is both ugly, and horribly impractical if it breaks in my mind. You lose infotainment, speed, and cabin control if that goes out? Horrible design. Also you failed the mention removable seats. In these trims, Honda wins with total space due to removable seats. Otherwise good video! Reliability and resale value won out for me but the Kia does have a great product.
@@brokeboy87 Hyundai and Kia are still struggling and I’d say they’re just average. Most people don’t realize they still use a lot of cheap plastics and rubber in hidden parts. That’s how they save on costs. That’s the trade-off for their fancy interior.
I prefer the Honda Odyssey hands down in terms of style and comfort it's very Acura like if Acura added a minivan to it lineup. So I'm definitely picking the odyssey.❤
When Chinese cars can be sold in the United States, the prices of these two cars will be reduced by $20,000. Are you sure they are good? It’s not that you don’t have more choices!
Honda needs to do a major redesign of the Odyssey Minivan. The Side Profile (Lightening Bolt) of the Odyssey is horrible and the tiny rear bumper is laughable! The Kia Carnival is more attractive truck like side view. The Front Clip on the Kia is BAD! The Kia Rear Clip is OK. Honda needs to take the like of the Pilot and Passport and slap them onto the Odyssey, this would dramatically improve the styling of the Odyssey and improve consumer acceptance.
Can Honda make this not look like a floating turd on wheels? It just looks dated. Trying to convince my wife to go van over SUV and she only likes the Kia because it looks nice. I would prefer the reliability of the Honda and that proven V6.
They have the same utility and also drive similarly. You can make the point about reliability but there's no need to pretend the Odyssey does anything special over the Carnival. Cuz it doesn't.
@@victreebel170 They don’t have the same utility. The Carnival centre console is terrible. And the magic slide seats are #1 all time for transporting lots of kids. Which is why people buy vans. For kia to make more sales they had to make it look fancy, but I'm driving a 2019 Honda odyssey elite due to reliability, better resale, and parts and services are cheaper then kia because all kia parts will have to come from Korea.
Why do ppl always talk about reliability ? When I look at used cars most are traded in at the 80k mark no matter what the make is !
You're allowed to mentally weight the points any way you want to
I know you gave points to that dash and infotainment system, but the fact that it's all one screen is both ugly, and horribly impractical if it breaks in my mind. You lose infotainment, speed, and cabin control if that goes out? Horrible design.
Also you failed the mention removable seats. In these trims, Honda wins with total space due to removable seats.
Otherwise good video! Reliability and resale value won out for me but the Kia does have a great product.
Kia looks better but it still needs some improvement in its unreliable powertrains.
Kia is actually average to above average in reliability. Just avoid anything with a Dct. VW still hasn't figured that one out either.
@@brokeboy87 Hyundai and Kia are still struggling and I’d say they’re just average. Most people don’t realize they still use a lot of cheap plastics and rubber in hidden parts. That’s how they save on costs. That’s the trade-off for their fancy interior.
@@MapleGX550 They have had well-publicized issues with certain engines, but they don't cheap out in the parts bin like Nissan, GM, and VW do.
@@victreebel170 you never know them.
Hyundai should turn the Palisade into a van like Chrysler did w/ the Pacifica
Good idea
Or at least have their own version of the Carnival. Not sure Hyundai is willing to try that again like with the Entourage.
Coming soon
I prefer the Honda Odyssey hands down in terms of style and comfort it's very Acura like if Acura added a minivan to it lineup. So I'm definitely picking the odyssey.❤
Notice Kia doesn’t publish the wattage to their Bose system. Whereas Honda says 550 watts for their top trim.
You forgot that Kia offers 3 years of maintenance currently.
@@lookatthis8455 do they?
Only Hyundai and Genesis do, not Kia
Deadpool has convinced me.
Carnival based on available hybrid and more muscular look. I strongly dislike swoopy car styling.
When Chinese cars can be sold in the United States, the prices of these two cars will be reduced by $20,000. Are you sure they are good? It’s not that you don’t have more choices!
Kia does everything to make the look attractive, adds a lot of tech and lights. But overall quality is really CHEAP!!!
Quality and reliability are excellent. Would take the Carnival over a Honda everyday.
You are correct the Honda is vastly superior in quality. No doubt there.
Honda vehicles are superior in every with the best mechanical packaging, design, and engines! Not even a comparison.
The honda will keep it's value
HONDA HANDS DOWN!!!!!
Like the hyundai!
Still no hybrid or electric van. Disappointing
Carnival has a hybrid
@@PaulDo22 oh sht. You're right. I just did more research after your message. Thanks.
What do you prefer?
First
Honda needs to do a major redesign of the Odyssey Minivan.
Both of them don't offer an awd and a hybrid option, I'll stick with the Sienna the only good Toyota they still make
Can Honda make this not look like a floating turd on wheels? It just looks dated. Trying to convince my wife to go van over SUV and she only likes the Kia because it looks nice. I would prefer the reliability of the Honda and that proven V6.
Don't even hesitate, Carnival is great, reliability has been excellent. Honda is sleeping.
Honda all day long over Kia.
Not even close. Those Honda transmissions are hot garbage.
No doubt the Honda is a good car, but up against the Carnival visually, its design is stale and outdated.
One has more features and bling, one is a far better vehicle that will last, drives better and has incredible utility
Not to mention the tailgating couch off the trunk. And yeah you must not understand driving dynamics if you think they drive similarly. The Carnival is a boat.
@@TheBMurdaCarnival doesn't have the hot garbage transmissions of the Honda and has far more usable cargo capacity. Although I do prefer having the Honda people drive up the price of the old Honda junk and keep down the price of the Carnival.
@@PaulDo22 incorrect bullshit, the Honda uses the 10 speed which is widely considered among the best on the market. You can stop talking about the 9 speed which was discontinued almost 5 years ago any time. Also, far more usable cargo capacity? lol.
@@TheBMurda Yeah now it does. For years they didn't. They aren't bullet proof. Honda has its issues. But I'll let you pay for their overpriced platform.
👍
The carnival isn't for me. I loathe engine drone up hills. V6 all day w the Odyssey. I test drove the carnival sx trim and the hud is a gimmick.
Kia is no way nearer to Honda odyssey . 9/10 . Carnival 6/10
Ab kya hua you are my best to you uu Church Street suite with the same to the other side 😀😉
Honda is a joke with the tech
Odyssey is so ugly inside and out. It has aged like milk. One of the worst minivans currently. Carnival and Sienna are miles better.
this person is bullshinting about this van
I wish Genesis made a minivan. Honda look so bad.
Kia steering wheel looks horrible
and the winner is:
Toyota Sienna
Honda and Toyota are soooo boring!!!! They just rely on their reputations for reliability and do nothing in terms of taking aesthetic risks, innovating or improving!!!! My phat ebony donk deserves better!!!! Miss my hot and sexy yams with that Honda mess boo boo!!!!!!!
no odyssey hybrid? rip honda
HONDA FOREVER!
Kia
reliability over looks
not honda and toyota
Honda transmissions are notoriously unreliable.
Honda is ugly. Both need a awd option because that alone could make me choose that vehicle.

OU GOING OFF ROAD
Nobody needs an AWD minivan.
Because of winter weather. Get around on slick roads.
@@markkropf8295 Except AWD does nothing for winter traction. It's a common misconception. Winter tires are the solution you are looking for and you'll think it's AWD with how well they work.
@@PaulDo22 sorry disagree. I do agree however winter tires make a huge difference
KIA sucks
