i switched from 2021 Sienna Limited to 2025 Kia Carnival SXP. 7k miles on it so far and have never regret it. i like the SUV sexy looks, empowering tech and 100k miles warranty!
We rent a Chrysler minivan for long trips with 5 to 7 people, the rental company here does not have any other choice. It is the base model V6 version, not the less reliable and more expensive plug in hybrid. Reviews I have seen have it driving better than the Toyota, but it is not as reliable and uses more fuel. I have heard of problems with getting warranty covered and later repairs done at a Hyundai or Kia dealer, and some in the past started to lose engine oil early. If you do buy a used minivan, the previous owner was unlikely to drive it like they stole it and lower the reliability.
Despite being the oldest of the three, I'll still choose the Honda Odyssey because it's actually nice to drive, and the 3.5L V6 is such a gem. Sure, the V6 still has a timing belt, but you only have to replace it every 100K miles. Also, I live in Southern California, so AWD is not really a priority for me.
I had a Hyundai Entourage back in the day. Bought new and never any problems. Put 300,000 miles on it and 9nly traded because it was 7+ years old and I wanted a change. Great video. I would pick the Toyota as my first choice but. Ould be perfectly happy in the Honda too.
Dude you can argue the Kia hybrid engine is new, but you keep comparing it to the other 2 as if it is a problem when it has the same or better performance but with a better warranty and yet no reason to justify the bias! As a Kia MINIVAN owner for the last 5 years, the engine has been solid and it's performance has held up against sports cars and blows every SUV out of the water! I also own a Toyota Camary and love it and think it's one of the best built cars ever! But the Kia is overall stronger
What I like about you reviews is that yo never try to hide the truth. Unfortunately most of the "professional" car reviewers at best just hint secretly at the real issues such as poor reliability, many just bashfully pool them under the rug. I'm also fond of your common sense practical approach, as opposed to many's sensational excitement. Thanks for doing it, Shari!
A maintenance disadvantage of the Odyssey is that it has a timing belt and will require costly replacement around 100k miles. The Carnival's warranty is nice, but there have been too many stories of people's cars sitting at the dealers for weeks due to battery drain and other issues. The Carnival's tech and interior are nicest. Odyssey is the best value for the dollar imo. The Sienna is most difficult to find in stock, but supplies are improving. Don't pay over MSRP!
Yes! Never pay above MSRP! That belt on the Honda costs 500-1500 depending where you get it done. Not that expensive for something you do once. If you have to do it twice that’s even better cause it only means you’ve saved tons of money by not replacing your car for a long time. My dealer used to charge 900 in 2020 for this service. Not bad.
Odyssey looks like some kind of Hearse.....The Sienna like an angry fish. Toyota no matter how hard they try can't seem to figure out American tastes in style. One area where the Kai has it a bit more figured out.
You have hit the nail on its head right there. The sales of minivans are not dwindling, the problem is supply not sales. You can’t beat the practicality of a minivans.
people are easily enticed by "technology" when reliability should be priority and safety festures....other gimmicky techs are just a headache when they fail eventually
I plan to eventually buy a toyota sienna so siennas are very good but i think the sienna has the disadvantage where its impossible to fold the 2nd row seats because perhaps is because of the battery
Any choice here makes more sense that a comparable three-row SUV. If you financed a certain KIA SUV in 2021 you might be able to have two of these minivans for the same price if you look at total cost of ownership. If you can find them.
Sorry to hear you lost yours. I still have my 07 Sienna with 190K miles and will drive it into the ground. It's got more cargo room than any of the new line ups. Not to mention the simplicity and practicality of it. I often get 28MPG highway. I can remove middle row seats and can climb into the rear of the vehicle to attend to the kids without having to get out in the rain and cold. With these new vans you'd have to stand out there in the rain and snow pouring on you while trying to get a squirmy kid in a car-seat. With the 07 one can quickly pop the kid inside and get inside yourself...turn around, go back and buckle them in while staying warm and dry. These new models filled up with all this clap trap is a big turn off to me.
I for one don't want all the high tech unnecessary clap trap! I find these big screens particularly the one's that rise above the dashboards a major eye-soar distraction. I like elegant simplicity in a vehicle and don't need or want all the excess BS. I like spacious van like interiors where you can climb into the rear seats from the front if need be like in my 07 Sienna. These vehicles are becoming less vans and more like vans trying to identify as a car! I just don't care for it. I'm buying a van because I want a van with all it's practical functionality, not a car. Add to this the insane high prices and supposed supply chain issues these companies can stick it up their rear end as far as I'm concerned! Until they get their act together instead of playing the games that they're playing then they can forget it! I'll hang onto to my older vehicle as long as possible.
I had to wait 2 years and 2 months to receive my Sienna XLE, I'm going to pick it up on Thursday and I'm very happy. Very good your video thank you. Quebec I think it takes longer than the US.
After looking at and driving a few Odysseys and Carnival hybrids here in Northern California, I flew all the way to Dallas, TX to get hands on a Toyota Sienna last week. I paid a couple of thousands over msrp for so called added accessories, but it was worth it cause I had to wait long periods of time for one in California. I believe you never go wrong with Sienna especially when it comes to hybrid technology.
Only for the city township uses without 4wd the best minivan or MPV cars is Mitsubishi Delica D5 diesel engine 4wd systems very good for off-road,water crossing, mountain, Chrysler dodge, Fiat, Renault, Nissan is the Mitsubishi alliance company 😂🎉
Wait a minute this review is sadly incomplete without the original precursor dodge chrysler minivan that started it all the Pacifica I had the caravan the KIA is not a minivan just a crossover with sliding door
I agree with Shari a lot but having driven these 3 lately he’s way out of whack on this one. Carnival hands down winner on interior quality. Sienna felt like a 90’s minivan. Rare Shari L on this one. Sometimes you actually have to consider the car and quality and not just pick Toyota every time because it’s most reliable
I've driven all three in a variety of trims during my car search and even though my daily driver is a hybrid I found the hybrid variants for these larger vehicles to really drone. I like to sacrifice MPG for power
Based on what you described on 3 Mini Vans. I think the Sienna Hybrid is the best one because it is saving Gas and AWD.because I leave in Chicago where there is lot of snow in the winter. The only thing I am concerning is the 2025 Sienna doesn't have the spare tire that come with. What can we do when we have a flat tire on hightway?
The spare is an option on most trim levels. You can’t get the “ottoman “ seating if you want the temporary tire, however. Get it with the van from the factory as it’s a 125.00 charge then as opposed to 500.00 to 800.00 if you want it done later..
I would love to go with the Sienna but the ridiculously long waiting period is a killer. I am sure Odyssey would score over the Sienna because of this.
This channel explains perfectly why Ontario car dealers are pissed off about the OMVIC 12.50 fee per car they sell. Because that money gets wasted on crap like this
I have a 2018 Honda Odyssey; was happy with it however just this year (2024) my transmission had issues (stalling and making noises in gear 1 and 2); had to replace it… which costs thousands of dollars because it’s just out of warranty. Will never buy a Honda again for that reason.
I'd like to know what kind of family needs a van what will "rack up super high mileage" What is scenario in a family that requires a minivan for over 7 years max?
😂Do you get rid of the kids when they turn 7? We kept our kids until they reached adulthood. We now drive one to haul grandkids around. They are easily the most versatile and convenient vehicles out there.
Maybe a family who doesn’t want car payments forever? I got two young kids and looking to get a minivan for my wife next year and I would like it to last longer than the loan on it does. We also take a few longer road trips so it’s easy for the family car to possibly hit 15,000 miles a year.

I drive an Odyssey around 20K Km a year, so you are describing 10 years of use for only 3,500 USD in repairs? Seems like a good deal to me... I haven't met a machine that needs no maintenance no matter how reliable it is... maybe tamper your expectations.
Order the Toyota Sienna; place your order with the dealer, and then wait 31 years for it to be delivered. The excuse from Toyota will be something like; "well, its in high demand, that's why it takes so long to get one!"
Do some research on that 1.6 T. Kia and Hyundai have had some major issues with that engine. My wife’s Tucson has that engine and the engine was replaced at 85,000 miles because of massive oil consumption issues. I was excited about the Kia hybrid but that engine was a poor choice. Should have put the 2.5 in there with the hybrid. If you buy the Kia, save all your oil change and maintenance receipts. If you have engine issues, they will require all that paperwork. Our mechanic kept the records, so we had no issues submitting them to Hyundai. After 4 oil consumption tests we had a new engine but were in a rental for a month while it was being repaired.
i switched from 2021 Sienna Limited to 2025 Kia Carnival SXP. 7k miles on it so far and have never regret it. i like the SUV sexy looks, empowering tech and 100k miles warranty!
