    I started skating 9 months ago after 10 years off the ice. I’m 39. I have regained all my skills and then some enough that today I started axels again with my coach!! I had them 10 years ago, but they are long lost. I’m hoping between helpful videos like this and my amazing coach, that I regain them again quickly too. I will definitely work through all the exercises you show here. Thanks!

      Coach Mary - Figure Skating Tutorials! My skate school has different level names than most arenas but I passed a level that seems like it is kinda similar to basic 8 and then the next level I passed was like half flips, Chinese spirals, back edges, etc. but I am soon going to start working on my axels! :)

    Thank you for the tutorial again. Do you have any advice if I suddenly lose the feeling to do the single jump, like after some fall and my muscle memory seems to be replaced by the mistakes which caused me falling. Maybe I am overdoing it and think too much? I just couldn't regain it so soon.

      Skating is a tough mental sport! Focus on the positives and landing the jump. Do it off ice and plenty of walkthroughs and exercises to feel comfortable again :)

    I'm looking forward to when my skills will be good enough to start working on the axel! My goal for 2020 is to learn all the other single jumps - I'm actually quite close to this, I need only lutz and some more work on loop - and to improve the spins. I hope I'll land an axel too, but I know I still have a lot work before that!

    I haven't been on the ice or attempted an Axel since 2012. It's my goal this year to get back on the ice and land one before I turn 25 in the summer. I was always confident with backspins, loop jumps, lutz etc but constantly popped my double salchows and axel. My little girl is 2 in a couple of months, I'd love to get her onto the ice! She already does ballet so I think she'd enjoy skating :)

      Started skating 2 months ago, joined the group sessions - which I plan on attending once a week. Would love to learn backwards crossovers and Waltz jump! Ofcourse it would be amazing to one time learn the axel. Still dont know how to properly spin aswell. As I was waiting for my bus yesterday I practiced Waltz jump while waiting, I had my earphones on and it was the best way of killing the time, don´t know what the other people where thinking of it :D

    I find it hard to cross legs in the air. When should I do that inside the jump?

  • @ayooitsidol9978
    @ayooitsidol9978 3 года назад

    my coach always says my leg should be very close to my leg when i’m jumping, but i was with elvis stojko one time and he said the opposite works better, which is the right way? does it matter?

    • @yeriberri3757
      @yeriberri3757 3 года назад

      For a single I’d say it’s better to keep the leg a bit farther away but for doubles and triples definitely closer. Either way for a single axel works but if you have to keep it super tight just to get around doing triples and doubles will be really hard.

    This is an older video so I’m not sure if I’ll get a response. I’ve been working my waltz and I just started skating again after 16 years…my left hip is killing me from theses jumps (counterclockwise spinner). Is that normal? 😅 I’m assuming 50% of the issue is me being 26 😭

    • @kristenjunker1632
      @kristenjunker1632 2 года назад

      I am almost 20 yrs older than you, and my hips/knees do not hurt when I do single jumps (even after lots of jumps in a 1.5 he session) so maybe there is some issue with your technique or a biomechanical problem. Anyway, welcome back to skating. It is more fun as an adult b/c there is no pressure to progress at the same rate as the children or do ice shows.

    Not me watching this acting like I can even do the first move when I can't even land a waltz 50% of the time

    Started working on axels when my parents decided that I wasn't doing well enough in school (40% for all subjects) and decided to ban me fully from skating for a whole year..
    Really frustrated...I don't know how I'm gonna survive next year

    • @contorgonflame452
      @contorgonflame452 4 года назад

      @@AmenoKitarou Yeah I get that part about doing better in school..but going from three to four times a week, to totally nothing in a whole year, I think that that's pretty unreasonable. There wasn't even any negotiation involved (like if I improved by 20% I could go once a week) or anything like that.
      Of course, studying is important and I've already taken steps to improve on it, but the pressure of not being able to skate at all is going to build up, especially after midterms are over and finals approach. After that, well..it might be the end of me, after all, I know myself well enough to know that I can't persist that long.
      Also especially since I finally found myself a community I feel that I belong to, as well as irreplaceable, amazing friends that I've met at the rink.
      While they continue to improve during their weekly trips to the rink, I'm stuck in the same spot, slowly losing my skills over the course of this year.
      There's a lot I don't want to lose, but there's not really much choice. I only look forward to the fact that time will never stop flowing and that one day, if I wait long enough, I'll make it to the other side, and finally be free.
      N(since last skated)=26 days
      365 seems so far right now...
