In this video, Lloyd teaches you how to do your first Backspin using a spinner. This is a key figure skating move to learn if you want to jump on the ice as this is your rotation position. If you can spin fast and balanced in this position, you will have a much better ability to spin fast and balanced in your jumps.
This figure skating spin can be challenging at first, which is why I have broken it down into a few simple steps to help you learn to do one. Take it slow and easy at first and with time you will find that you make amazing figure skating progress.
Try to hit all 3 positions when doing backspins! Don't rush the spin and skip the second position (people love to do this!).

Goodbye, spinner. Hello, floor. That's hilarious!
Mr. Englishman, the best video you have ever done!
I agree with Lloyd that you'll have a much better control of your balance if you do your landing position on the spinner rather than trying to hoop away from the spinner. It's also safer if you're not practicing in an open space. Very helpful video! Thank you!
Spinning is such a complicated action and it’s so underrated in terms of difficulty.
Wow that’s a lot of rotations! I can do about 3 so far, but these tips will be super helpful thanks 😀
Update: this totally worked for me and I can do way more rotations immediately - thanks!
This is a fantastic informational video. Thank you!
I love this video! I watched it, bought a backspinner, bought 3 Shamwows, and I'm ready for lessons. Can I come to see you in what appears to be Willy Wonka's bedroom?
(KIDDING. seriously good info in this video. Kudos)
Your comments do make me laugh. Those are Cranes on the wall though, not chocolate bars and I'm holding a pink unicorn spinner, not a golden ticket 😂I didn't use a spinner at all while competing/performing myself, I only learned to as it's the cool thing to do nowadays. I had to see what the fuss was all about.
I really appreciate the way you explain everything in detail, it helps a lot!!
Super clear and super useful! Thank you!
You're welcome! I'm glad to hear you liked it. Let me know how you get on with the exercises 🙂
Really useful video! Thanks!
Thank you so much for your clarity!!
Perfect instructions, thank you
Tysm, like I was doing all those mistakes n now I understand ✨
We Don’t have any ice rink in my country, so off ice videos are quite useful 🤷🏽♀️😁
Loved your video¡ fun and great explanation!
❤ You are amazing!!! Thank you so much I’m struggling for so long that
Thank you. I have been having a hard time with my back spins. Every time I can only rotate 2 times and then I fall out of place (go side ways). I will try your exercise and hopefully do a better job on my rotations on the ice. Thank you
I've been trying to master that last bit (the in and out and in) and it's sooo hard because I have the Jerry's square spinner which doesn't allow for travel. Well at least I can hope that my spins will be super centered on the ice when I get back haha
The in an out exercise is such a great exercise to do, if you're on the very unforgiving metal spinner that is locked on one spot, you will find that when you do master it, you will be very very balanced in exactly the right position. Which is a good thing, even if it will be frustrating at how hard it is to do the exercise on the spinner.
I needed this! Thank you
Awesome! Let me know if it helps ❤️
Funny and very useful!
Wowww. I really want to thank you for this video.☺👍💌🌎⛸⛸
You're welcome! Glad you liked it ❤️
Thanks for reminding me all the mistakes I made! :) Now I know what not to do and hopefully improve my spinning without becoming decentralized.
Glad to hear the video was helpful for you! Let me know how you get on practicing with it now! ❤️
@@IceCoachOnline well I have been working for a week now and results are very clean thanks a lot
You're best!!!!!!!!
Is there a possibility to make a video on how to work on double jumps off ice? Thank you!

Let me know if it helps your backspin ❤️
This helps me but im still struggling
Will these wonderful tips work with a square spinner without a rocker?
Awesome, how is it so easy for you 😂 you put some hours in dude!!
Some of the kids I teach get cheeky and say to me "it's easy for you to say do this, that, and the other! I bet you can't even spin on this spinner" So, just to prove a point to them, I practised so I could show them all of the spins I work on with them 😂
@@IceCoachOnline That was my question too - you make it look so easy!
i just bought an E-spinner and i find that it pitches me back onto my heel and the bigger rocker is just so hard for me to balance on. I don’t want to return it without practicing adequately but it’s definitely a struggle. any tips? is that a common issue?
I practice street workout there is a movement: (swing 720 ) can you please check on that?. In that movement we need to make a lot of spin.
Good by spinner, hello floor ! 🤣 LOL
I will be careful !
😂 Please do!
I'd love to see a back sit spin
I don't have a video covering the back sit spin on a spinner yet, but we often practice them off the ice in my spinner training classes!
Edit: Typos
❤
❤️👍
wow, how long does it take to get over the dizziness and nausea you get when starting to practice spins?
Do you know any Aspies that ice skate?
Yes of course ❤️👍
I am autistic and turn 40 this year. I never put a pair of skates on my feet until I was 37. I am now working on my moves in the field having completely all 10levels of the UK learn to skate. Does it take me longer to learn yes it does, do I need visual learning yes I do, but if you don't try you never will if you at least try they is a CHANCE you can.
