Josh - you have an extraordinary way of explaining complex techniques clearly, simply, and efficiently. I've spent hundreds of hours studying Logic and over the years, you've been my "go to" guy. This Sidechain Expansion Trick is another jewel from your impressive catalog. Thank you, sir!
Yep me too
Indeed
That bass sound is sick 🔥
Nice! I never used the expander before but now I know what it's for! Thanks!
Sounds like the airwolf theme. Awesome. Great sidechain tips too. Thanks Josh.
These are great simple examples of what sidechain comp and sidechain expansion can add to a mix
Almost everything I know about Logic has been because of you! Went through all your long tutorial series and every short video like this since 2016, thanks for everything you do!
I think I love you dude
every time I click, i learn something. I really appreciate how well you teach Logic's features
Hey Josh, Yeah I agree with Mike, I've watched a LOT of production tutorial videos and just the way you organize the information for the viewer makes it easy to comprehend. Your videos have definitely inspired a number of tracks I've produced. Thanks for all you do and providing this essential resource for those of us in the trenches!
You deserve more support sir. I love the conciseness of your videos. And it's well balanced; the mix between what we might already be familiar with and the new stuff is just so well put it makes understanding so easy. This means more planning and preparation on your part so thank you for your efforts. I'm learning a lot thanks to you.
if apple hasnt given u a check for schooling people then they should. fire lectures. ive learned everything about logic from u. dont ever change what u do because its perfect. much love!
Very valuable and insightful information 🔥🔥
Thank you so much for the help.this guy rocks.finaly someone who explains it simple. You are the best. Keep up the good work Sir.
You helped me learn synthesis and now I teach it to my friends! Thank you Josh. You're an awesome instructor
Love the effect, got my foot tapping. I like it a lot. Love the Music too. Nice one :)
Big D&B trick - nicknamed ‘sizzling hats’ where the hi hats are the sidechain trigger to the distortion or expander on the bass
Wow! I’ve learned a lot in 8 minutes. Thank you ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
This helps a lot!! This will be great for when I do sidechain mode on vocalsynth. I always feel like when I do vocalsynth, the signal is always to low and I can’t have the percussive elements at a good level
I knew about side chain compression but never gave the expander a try. Cool trick!
Wow thankyou so much. I asked this question on an Instagram post because I wanted to know whether you could accentuate certain sounds when the sidechain hits and everyone answered like I was stupid or something. Now I know it's called dynamic expansion - just speaks for the fact that legit information is hard to find. Kudos!!
Omgggg thank you so much please make more of these tricks no one talks about!
Clear and concise tutorial. Good job, Josh.
U read my mind on this one!
Back In 2014 I started to learn from you
Still I learn something new from you ...
Your a Gold ❤️❤️ thanks for what ur doing to the logic community 🔥
very illuminating and helpful. Something I will definitely be using from now on.
I suddenly feel like listening to Donna Summer lol. Great video!
Not sure why you don’t have a million subs. Great stuff here!
Great content, very easy to understand!
Man....that was a great video!!!! Please do more of these
Fantastic, I have learnt so much from just this short video, thank you, thank you, will certainly adopt all these and see what comes along.
It's going to be great to use this on a lot of different elements in a track. Good call.
Nice! Really spaces things out. Great tip!
Very cool technic, thank you so much for sharing. It gives life to the mix, in my opinion.
Excellent tutorial! It sounds so much better with all the movement
Super interesting! Thanks for sharing!
This is great
Thanks from Sweden. Big brain upgrade. 🧠😀
This is so cool. I’m going to try and create something of my own and use this trick. Thank you!
Thank you so much! So much to learn!
Now that was brilliant 🔥🔥🔥
Again so clear so helpful thank you !
Nice vid, helped me out a lot, thanks
Thanks for sharing - interesting way to add more accent on some ambient stuff with delays so it grooves with the track.
Woww cool trick I am just going to use in my next song production....thanks Josh
Awesome technique! Thanks mate! Will definitely use it in my projects.
This man is amazing.
I just want to say thanks!) Great Channel🙌
Now as I was watching this video it reminds me of a similar one that by chance I saw this morning that was called „Compression Side Chain Filter“ from your very, very good course „Advanced Mixing“, which I purchased some weeks ago. I‘m very interested in this topic and as it’s not easy for me to understand, I’m again and again looking for videos about side chaining.
Very nice!
Good stuff sir
Very help bro. Thank you.
Cool stuff! Thanks
I definitely learned something new here 👍🏽 great info thnx 🙌🏽🔥
I really like that soft synth sound btw dope stuff
great video
Intersdting & usefull video.
BTW, your theme sounds a little bit like Airwolf but after few last drinks 😉
Awesome!
What are you using for that bass is that a sample or is that from alchemy?
Finally this makes things clear!!! Thank you!!! Can side chain be triggered from both MIDI instruments and audio channels, or only the one type?
Cool! Thank you bro
Thanks, very useful
I really appreciate that you deliberately avoid talking over the "with/without" comparison, it is so distracting when other people doing this kind of comparisons stop the music, take a few seconds to say "and now let's hear it with the effect applied", and restart the music.
Brilliant
Damn, this is awesome.
Cheers Josh
You're the king
Reminded me of Airwolfs Title Track!
This is so cool
Hey dude. I’ve been following your page for some time. I’ve noticed you didn’t make a separate side chain track to set the bass compressor to? What’s up with that lol. Thanks again for doing what you do dude
Game-changer!
Thanks man! Would it be possible to use an expander to get the dynamics of a piano performance to translate onto the same piece played on a dynamically static synth pad?
Let's go!
Super🎉thank you
nice!
You need to listen to Front Line Assembly's Airmech and Warmech, my friend, I think you'd love them.
Sir, thank you!
Thanks!
Top!
thank you!!!
Great stuff! Can we get the synth presets from this project, please? 😁
SOLID!!
Thanks
mmmm, expander, I'll have to check this out.....I could use an expander on the kick, and sidechain the bass, ?
I wonder how the effect would be with orchestra strings? Tomorrow’s little project …
what kind of kick are you using?
Wish I could see you do this on FL Studio
what does the ratio do?
Hi, I'm working in Logic and trying to set up a side chain compressor on an aux bus. I know how to do this and to assign the compressor to side-chain to the track of the kick drum. My problem is the instrument tracks that I would like to have ducked under the kick are already assigned to a SUM (Track Stack), which is Bus 11. If I switch the Bus of these tracks to the aux bus with the side chin compressor (Bus 16), then they will no longer be controlled by the Sum track. Is there a way to set up both Bus 11 and Bus 16 (For side-chain)? If so, can someone please explain how to set this up? Thanks!!
would expanding the bass instead of compressing it would be a viable option if we want a bass that stands out?
You definitely could, but usually you compress the bass on the kick so that the lower frequencies don't clash with one another. Both the kick and bass occupy a lot of volume in the low-end, so expanding the bass could actually just make it muddier. Maybe there's another benefit to expanding the bass I'm not realizing though!
Which bass patch is that? Sound like a Juno 60 right out the gate!
I saw it’s on the es2 synth so I’m just gonna have to play with that relentlessly this week lol
I don't know if I agree that expansion is like upward compression. Upward compression is still decreasing the distance between the loudest and quietest parts of the audio. Expansion is the opposite of compression. Instead of bringing the loudest and quietest parts closer together you are stretching them farther apart. I don't think Logic has a stock plugin that does upward compression.
Is Kickstarter volume shaper has same effect on bass as the side chain ? Thank you
you mean kickstart from Romeo? yes, it's basically the same...kickstart is like 'a side compression for dummies'...:D
very easy to use but very limited.
@@lukaszbudzinski Cheers mate
Sickk
Very Jean- Michel Jarre.
I can hear The Weeknd sing on this.
can I update big Sur os ? kindly reply
Does nobody understand what the word “best” means in music? A beat does not describe every fucking instrument. A beat is just the percussion. Stop fucking doing this.
