I really liked this new format, maybe not for CONTENT training like in your overall Logic Pro series which I think is better using your well-produced and very didactic format. But to see how you APPLY the content is really really helpful.
I would really love to see you continue developing this song. What would be your next steps in your process? For example, would you next think about what genre you wanted to use? Would you then add an appropriate baseline based on that genre? And how would you think about Melody, and what process would you use to add it? Frankly would be helpful for you to go all the way to mixing and then even mastering the final track. Those are some of my ideas…

Great video. Love all your vids. As far as the difference between your more edited videos and this being less edited, it was fine and had a good continuity. The format served the topic well in that we get a glimpse into your composers mind if that makes any sense. Would love to see a series on music theory. Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to your next tutorial.

Hi, for intros in Logic you can use a little hide option, the little arrow/triangle in the bar rule, between bar 1 and track heads, and while click it and slide it to the left appears negative bars. Then bar 1 will be always bar 1 in your song.
Never see it this topic before in any youtube video about Logic, and will be a game changer about writing intros.
Thanks for the content of your videos!

Personally I really enjoyed this format … I like seeing your whole process rather than a distilled version.
It’s preferable for me because I also get to see some of your editing techniques that you might otherwise edit out.
As for the chord track, it is a great start from Apple and I’m sure they will add more features.
I really want it to allow me to play in a chord progression and analyse it for me.

What amazes me is that all these DAWs with built in chords/chord identification are all islands. We need a standard for it as part of AU/VST/AAX so that key and chord dependent apps/plugs like Auto-Tune and Harmony Engine can tap into it.

Very nice feature and very well explained. Is there a way to have Logic Pro recognize the full chord progression from a sampled song you import, as well as to automatically map it to a tempo grid, so you have a good starter to add extra instruments to it?

This is terrific. I'm just learning Logic Pro and just recently discovered Unison MIDI chord pack (saw an older video of yours). The Logic chord track is very cool though unlike Unison it seems you can't drag and drop example chord progressions right into the track.

Great video! I didn’t need the global chord track for 25+ years of logic, but I’m playing with it now. 😉 Like your example, I flesh out a chord progression with a midi instrument. I add a drum beat from the logic loop browser. Now I want a funky guitar from the Cory Wong Apple Loops pack. I notice they all the guitar loops have embedded chords? When did that happen? So I drag in an audio loop. I drag down the global chord track to overwrite the embedded chords of the loop. It looks like it works….but the loop doesn’t change. Of course not, it’s audio not midi! So what’s the point of having the embedded chords in the audio loops? So, I’m back to manually chopping, adjusting the loop key, etc. to match my global chord track. Do you see any other way?

Love your channel brother. It has taught me so much.
You mentioned starting the recording on bar 2 to trigger all notes. Is there a way to trigger effects before a note is played? For example, reverb won’t start until you play a note, so the first note sounds dry. Is there a way to start the reverb from the very first note? Or am I overthinking this and I should just play something before my track to trigger effects? Thanks!

you said you like to start at bar 2 in case there's something before that. you quite likely already know this, but you can drag the ruler left to get more space. i usually drag it back to zero and then start on 1. i am pretty sure you can drag it back into the negatives for more space, but i'm not sure why someone would need or want to do that.
also, in the midi editor if you press "shift+down arrow" then you'll select all the bottom notes, which would have worked well in this case since you were moving the bass notes around.

You were clear with instructions on what you were doing and how you were doing it. The Chord Track desperately needs the option to drag midi directly into it and have the chords identified. As in Cubase and Studio One.

    • @MusicTechHelpGuy
      @MusicTechHelpGuy  2 месяца назад +9

Me too! I'm really hoping they add that in a future update. You CAN input MIDI from a MIDI controller, but yeah, unfortunately not from a MIDI region that doesn't already have region chords. Or at least have the option to analyze the region's chords, and THEN you could drag it in.

Imagine all of the songs (especially your song catalog) that could benefit from this. I know you can play chords into the chord track from a midi track, but it is so hit and miss on the timing.

I do think the chord progression global track is amazingly powerful, but even with that said… it still doesn’t exactly help new users that don’t have a solid background in music theory an easy way to determine the best notes/chords to choose like many other midi packs etc.
Granted I never use midi packs and I just easily play the chords in myself (solid music background) but I’ve always wondered why Logic (or at least GarageBand) doesn’t offer this very simple program as an add on or plugin like many other DAWs do? Even professionals don’t mind having simple chord tools to have on hand when trying to quickly gets ideas down on the grids.
