They should of cut the music when Skepta mentioned his girl having a miscarriage, that was pretty disrespectful.
It's not like petter knew shit was going to get that deep. But ya the music was to loud for skeptas voice.
Jamison Cook when did that happen?
Ten crack commandments smh learn your hiphop
***** Ten Crack Commandments by The Notorious B.I.G
Jamison Cook nah man why the fuck would he do that, mad respect was mutual this interview
Skepta could make £1billion and he would still wear them nike tracksuits and baseball caps. #bbk
ragiiofficial Hes reppin' preme now
ragiiofficial this is the look he's chosen for this period and its worked for him. He used to wear high fashion stuff but this current look and image works
And he's wearing supreme that hasn't even come out yet
Yeah, I used to wear LV
I put it all in the bin cause that's not me
True, I used to look like you
But dressing like a mess? Nah, that's not me
ragiiofficial loool the people that are REALLY rich dress casj..!
One of his boys died a couple days before this interview so stop actin up saying "he needs to talk up and acting emotionless"
Very insightful interview good to see Skepta is flying the flag without conforming
Lordie when your £5 much?
he highh bwoiii lol
Ay Lordie where the fuck is ur £5 munch? I wanna see man roof it
Big up dons like lordie, some of you Americans should defo subscribe to him (grimereporttv) above. I like this but its kind of worrying man, I don't really want this to go the wrong way like I hope Americans don't try and take over our genre. But that could never happen tho 🔫🔫
I hear that , but why does he dress like some futuristic chav . He dresses like them Burberry chavs
SKEPTA: "ya get me"
Rosenberg: "uhh, yeah... 100%"
lol americans struggling to deal with uk colloquialism
hundydoe was thinking the exact same thing lol
+hundydoe stfu...we don't understand that garage gibberish you call English....fuck outta here.
fadethechannel lol ok
fadethechannel bruh, even americans can't understand some of the mainstream rap you put out.. I mean, lifestyle is a big song cos it has a nice beat and the people rapping literally cannot be understood
fadethechannel Garage gibberish you call English? It is fucking English, Americans speak English you fuckwit
My man Skeppy killing it right now
As much as i hate the US attempting to understand Grime - I'm proud of Skeps
Winné Grime rappers
I was comparing the two genres and how you dont want us to "understand" grime
nice picture by the way Bellend LMAO!
Som Som And i was laughing at your comment, big man.
but you agreed that hip hop is better than grime but fr that profile pic...bellend
Ten crack commandments while mans talking about the death of his unborn baby, either turn the music down or lock it off completely, especially at a moment like that. Taking the piss man

This nigga has beeeenn the shit.....lowkey happy Drake put Americans on to him
Asap put him on before drake
So did P Diddy in 2010Jason Edinboro
theBsideArchive that didn't put him on though
theBsideArchive Just Blaze did it before that. 110 Sessions
devious141 I was on him once I started hearing his tracks and JME's tracks being played in the background of FIFA youtubers videos. Dude can spit and never disappoints. Straight Up.
It annoys me that he's been treat like he's "new". Give him a search he's has had tracks for years now..
chrisjohnson181 Same. It also annoys me when Rosenberg brings up Dizzie Rascal like he's still poppin. Bonkers is so old and on the Krept and Konan interview they were acting like it just came out...........
chrisjohnson181 Well he is new to the american audience, you cant blame them
della foray Just so you are aware in the Krept And Konan interview, they were talking about Bonkaz the artist, NOT 'Bonkers' Dizzee Rascal's song
della foray in the krept and konan interview I thought they're were talking about dizzie as well . but theyre talking about a grime artist called bonkaz.
look him up his good
Le'brondae Shei BritHopTV Oh right, thanks! I will.
Skepta been hot in the streets for a while now, shout out to all the Grime artist... Skepta, JME, Tempz, D Double E
Who the fuck is skeprta
Can't forget Ghetts
Lol Sam guessed it
Beg man never put tempz in that list again please
AJ'D Out Yeah yeah I'm still about TEEEMPZ
Skepta's either jetlagged or high here
No sleeping mans been grinding
***** He's never this slow
Skepta lives by the professions of UK's best rapper KSI. NO SLEEP NO SLEEP NO SLEEP
Denis Costigan thats a joke right lol
***** It better be

Honestly though
forreal
Real ting
man's not hot
I'm so proud we are making moves abroad.
"We" lol
Fam it is 'We' , as in all of us repping this grime ting properly, showing love and making this possible
Darnelle Blanc Yes we I have been listening to Grime since year 7. I love that Grime artist are going places. If Skepta wins we all win.
Fair enough if you was some sort of contributor to Skepta's current successes then yeah "YOU" can take credit for grime branching out… BUT!! As a bystander of grime, we ain't don't nutin, this is what Skepta was saying… London is too small, the scene is too small, there's a specific way you've gotta be to fit in a certain category in UK grime and everyone knows everyone, we've gotta stop thinking this way because then that way there will only ever be the odd Dizzee Rascal & Skepta because Skepta ain't really repping grime on whole, he's repping himself, it's called branding…
It's the same as Toronto bruddas saying "because of Drake we're now making a name for ourselves" when no, I don't know any other Toronto rappers apart from Drake… (I hope this made sense, goodbye)
xSalamz its awesome to see Grime catching on here in the US
i love how skepta is being himself! some uk artist try to act American but hes one that will keep it 100% UK!
Youngnigga18 Lol true. Chipmunk tried. Skepta's turn now
+della foray allow chip he made them songs when he was 18 bruv
Things have changed
UK clash > US beef
Done know. In the UK everything is direct.
Karim Murray fucking done know omg lmfao
luke moore Are you a roadman now Luke? Plus 1ing your own comments as well Luke
luke moore
fix that mullet ric flair.
Shut up
I Like Skepta's interviews, he carries himself very seriously.
R: " Welcome!"
S: *grunts.
:-D
The fact that Rosenberg and Hot 97 are featuring a 30+minute interview with one of the biggest artists out of the UK, Skepta, that many Americans have never heard about, speaks volumes. Everyone in the comments are going on about genre titles, labels, how Americans aren't up on UK stuff. This moment right here is HUGE. People need to shut the fuck up and be proud that someone from across the pond is getting their props in the US. Being big in the UK is a fresh thing. Making noise in the US opens the rest of the world up. I'm American and I remember when he did the posse joint "Duppy/Doin' It Again". He deserves his props across the world. Shoutout Hot 97 for exposing this artist.
Those are the eyes of somebody who does not sleep #grind
#coke
I AM SOOOOOO PROUD RIGHT NOW!!!!!! SEEING SKEPTA HERE IS HUGE!!!!!
Found out about skepta 3yrs ago, I've been waiting for the day grime in general would make it on to U.S soil. Ima be watching this over and over, well deserved. Holdtight the BBK mandem.
BBK
Rosenberg knows 1 fucking Skepta song.
della foray He's maybe gassed about it because its one of the biggest songs of 2015? I don't know why some people in these comments expect americans to look at grime and grime artists from the same eyes as londoners do
CalmYeWest Ygm, he also doesn't need to talk about tracks from years ago which are irrelevant.
Assibey121 Not tryna be rude at all or anything and I get your point but, like the guy said his songs are telling a story. Isn't better to not just acknowledge one song alone but other songs he has made as well. Each of his songs are telling a story. The audience will get a greater representation of who Skepta is by hearing his story expressed in other songs, not just one. Not trying to put down Shutdown at all cause I love that song just don't think it should be the only song that labels Skepta worldwide. He has had many hits. Not even saying to talk about tracks from years ago. Like there's Back then which I think is a great song and that was released recently. But I guess if everyone gravitates more towards Shutdown then that's cool. As long as he's getting the recognition he deserves right.
Yeah 100% agree with you but I think tbh That's not me is the song that labelled Skepta worldwide but because Shutdown is so big in the states I think he only feels it's relevant to bring that track up since Skepta did a shutdown tour. And yeah I suppose
Atleast he showin love g
I live in Texas and in 2006 I met a guy that moved from Brixton. He showed me the practice hours DVD and it blew my mind. I started listening to nothing but grime. Im the only person in my city(Houston) that listens to grime. A few people know about Dizzee and now people are starting to listen to Skepta, but most americans can't get past the UK accents. I hope grime doesn't get big in the US because I know they're gonna make it commercialized and ruin it
Im rollin round h town texas mandem hold me down!
Ay I'm from Brixton man thats weird..
im from brixton
Bullshit. You not the only one, it's a couple million ppl here I'm sure your not the only one
acestar713 this is the sickest comment ever 🤣🤣🤣🤣
must be the first time iv heard an mc/rapper be straight up and genuinely say what he thought in the interview process without being sly saying subliminal things. When he said that drake was at him for doing a remix of shut down, and skepta said that he didnt want the track to just be about him, man that was straight up. Thats the attitude i want to see in rappers and mc's these days, even if its your boy or what ever crew you fuck with
Verdade meu mano
Am I the only person who thinks the american accent sounds extremely camp? Especially in comparison to a London road accent
Ross Bain americans have different accents based on which they’re from, english accents are all mainly the same.
@@ArensYazid that's not at all true and you sound ignorant as hell. England, just like America and every other country has different accents in every different region.
Paul sounds camp
Rackity Rack Rack Racks you sound uneducated
@@ArensYazid We have 50 plus cities and states where in each city we have different accents. They didnt even know that and they are calling you ignorant. And I dont know anyone that sounds like Rosenberg.lol
The realest nigga right now. Period.
Ore Shoderu true...check my prank out its fireeee
its a prank productions how can a prank be fire
TJ Williams i don know
Skepta wearing a suit would be like a snooker player wearing a tracksuit .
Haha
This didn’t age well brother..
The guy said forefront of UK hip hop😂.. Grime my friend.
TheOfficialJDefianT Init. Their ignorance is starting to annoy me. I know Skepta probs wanted to pick him up on that.
***** Basic example for americans:
Nines - Money on My Mind
Yo what do these Brits not understand we ain't interested lol make money in Europe that's a big fan base to get but don't waste your time here it's not gonna be accepted and don't say y'all don't care because these Brits are going wild because some dude got a hot97 interview lol
such a good attitude about it all, humble guy
Interview was mad organic, shout out Skepta been listening since 2007
AYEEEEEEEEE.
You should've had this legend on the morning show too though.
I think he was on it cause Laura styles put up a pic of them together
Good interview...
+GlobalFaction Big up!!
MAN LIKE SKEPTA YEAAAAAAA
So happy for skepta man, it seems like he's finally getting the regonition he deserves
Proud off you skepta ... Your music is deep , it's like a story .
For real, I'm real proud of Skepta. North London Stand up! This was a great interview. You can tell his demeanor is different from even his older interviews. Brilliant insights.
North London ❤️
Skepta is also a very diligent producer, big up to him, big up to the scene
I fuck with anyone who fucks with both skepta and lol ugly mane bruv
From risky roads to this
This interview is really quality because of how open and truthful he is being. Like he's just being himself so many artists try to put on this act and try to be someone who they're not and say things just to impress.
So is grime making waves in the US now if so when will the Godfather be on HOT 97
***** Here's a hint: check Wikipedia
***** 😒 Bruh
***** You're missing out
*****
If you don't listen to music that does not get played in LA you are missing out on a huge amount of music
***** Well Krept and Konan were on HOT 97 a few weeks ago and Skepta was just on it I think it has crossed the pond.
Dude sounds like he has just woken up
cos he probably did.
Murrey, its jet lag
Murray Herts if you heard the queen mum talk she would sound like that too we all work tirelessly over here bro
Murray Herts he has a lot of hay fever he takes tablets for
He was in mourning
The point he made about keeping your style, and reversing the perspective of not being able to 'understand UK accents' with regards to keef, but sticking with it Caus he liked his story, is such an interesting point.
Skepta is on point, glad he's not willing to compromise his identity for US exposure, exactly what our UK music scene needs...reminds me of old punk music #represent
Incredibly proud of the UK right now! Skepta keeps many of us inspired!
Big inspiration Skepta, and this is coming from the US. The flow is fuckin filthy !
You people saying Skepta is jetlagged or been blazing don't get it. He's just not gonna start doing jazz hands just cos hes in New York. Fact is Rosenberg is a chubby Zane Lowe with no timing or style, whats Skep meant to do? Buss out the Rolex Sweep?
😂😂😂
What makes laugh is that Rosenberg tries to make it seem he knows and cares about skepta
This guy played the escape rooms where I work here in London. He was actually sick. Him, his mate and a girl. Not even joking, they did better than most 3-player teams
Skepta has come far, I smiled throughout this!
HOW PATRONISING IS THIS DJ? London's not a big place?! Got the same number of people as New York bro, and a far more interesting music scene. No wonder Skepta sounded bored
Who's ever said they don't understand what he says? The British accent is the most formal, precise-sounding thing ever. Almost to the point of inadvertently, constantly sounding patronising.
Gyal
This reminds me of Futures interview with Tim Westwood, I'ma always come back to this. I see a lot of confusion in the comments section but this was a great interview. I saw it as an honest, 'stream-of-consciousness' conversation (flow). Skeppys in the zone rn, it's good to see.
Big up BBK, truly holding ldn down globally.
For me this is massive. Being a grime fan from the UK it's great to see skepta in america. I've been listening to his music for years and I hope he goes far in the us.
Been supporting skepta since 2008, glad to see him making movements abroad!!
Basic example for americans:
Nines - Money on My Mind
showerman lengmanting Most Americans can't tell the difference between a plane and a boat so don't expect them to tell the difference between Nines and Skepta.
+LeftLaneDreams There isn't an "obsession" with the U.S. And why is America suddenly acknowledging the grime scene in 2015? Answer the million dollar question.
***** watch nines latest video. its on the same channel. 10/10
LeftLaneDreams Check out 'Nines - Can't Blame Me.' I think you'll like it.
LeftLaneDreams Then why are you here? Why are you watching an interview with a Grime artist? Foo.
ojuelegba story was so nice.
I was at Wireless when they played Shutdown and its true what hes saying! Everyone went mental! Skepta making all his London family proud!!
Peter actually killed this interview
US rap artists would get slumped by Skepta
IamJohno Cannot lie it would be nice to see some US rappers and Grime artists go head to head on XXL cyphers or even on the BET hip hop awards in a BET cypher. Or what do you think?
della foray i mean in like road terms but yeah that would be cool, I dont think US rappers could take skepta & Jme on anyway
Are you serious? You think NO US rapper, could take on Skepta and JME? Cole, Kendrick, KRIT, Jay Electronica and etc. could rap circles around Skepta bro, I'm just being honest.
Don't get that Young Thug shit confused with the real Hip Hop shit fam.
Lyric wise Skepta kills them you just don't understand what he's saying.. Been listening since crazy Titch days, but you won't know who that is either.
I'm sorry but lyrically hip hop is in a different level compared to grime. Grime never started of as being lyrically good but it was more of how well you can spit you bars. Coming from someone who listens to grime and hip hop ( London as well).
Skepta really is the only U.K. Rapper I like he's been making heat forever 🔥
Lots of love and eternal respect to Skepta from Germany
Love at 1:22 when the Big L "Flamboyant " instrumental drops. Classic tune right there.
"im with skepta in the studio burning down a bush" - cyhi da prince westwood freestyle
skepta is so dark and handsome
Yesss Skepta. reppin the Grime Scene and Ldn overseas! Proud of him
I been listening to Skeppy since early 2013. I've never seen him like this, I appreciate this intimate interview. More success Skeppy.
He called it UK hip hop... It's grime Rosenburg. I'm American and know this.
Knowledge of self ❤
This is why u fuck wid Rosenberg. Shows mad support to the uk. Man played section in the background
The realness coming from pain. Respect
The background music needs to be in the background 'Berg. Lol
big up skepta the DON reppin UK
Yess skepy stay real fam you and jme are legends big up to you both 👊
He's treating him as if shutdown is his only decent song and he's one of these one hit wonders who've gone viral.
on the whole i think rosenberg needed to show skepta more respect and could have done a bit more research about his history and his back catalogue. asking him if he's had any "sage advice from Dizzee" really blatantly rubbed him up the wrong way. If he'd taken the time to do some research he'd realise that Skep is just as much of an OG in grime as Dizzee is, he's stuck to his grime roots more consistently, and with the likes of Roll Deep, BBK, Lord of tha Mics and all his solo stuff he's undoubtedly one of the most important grime mcs to have came out of the scene at all.
Rad Thibideaux haha that dizzee question was a par
he prob pissed he gettin interview by rosenberg
Word to Skepta, hope he gets more recognition, rip Lukey
respect and love
RIP LUKEY
LuckeysWorld
my man shouted out section boyz i rate him still
Rate skeppy for his honesty, no bs just truth, not always turn up & get wild sometimes reflect and speak your mind 🇬🇧
This is the best way for a uk artist to be respected by the U.S. Keeping it real and not changing your style to be accepted by the U.S.
So many rap/grime/rnb artists have tried but failed.. Giggs got a little love out there but I think skepta is a bit more articulate and has opened up the door for more uk artists to succeed over there
Man the background music killing me wtf
14:00 he just dismissed Dizzee 😂😂😂
Out to all BBK family, big up London music this is getting on an international ting!
much respect to Skepta hes got great songs that i listen too when i workout also Shoutout to Rapman badass story teller Many more UK artists that i can say are Shitting on our Mainstream artists because UK artists come with bars with a Accent much Love!!!!
Had to come back to this video cos the new skeppy moving diggy
10000% Such a shame, thought exact same
Herbie Hancock Yeah same man came here from the striped top womenswear one lol
Im hype Grime is making it's way over here =))))))
Too humble. Respect.
The work ethic is real. Look how tired he is😢 Keep doing your thing Skepta!🙌🏾
Hard to watch this interview. Love his music, but he just should not be doing interviews if hes going to be a zombie.
+March Fifth His best friend Lukey was stabbed a week before. Don't jump on man.
Richard Parker Streets are cold. People were jealous because Lukey was making it. My brother was close mates with him. You can search Lukey Maxwell on Google.
His hayfever is playing up its so obvious how can you not see
Huh? This was a good interview.
looking at the comments, why are UK heads so butthurt...yes, most Americans just caught on to grime (not me, I lived in the UK for a long while before moving to the U.S) but you can tell you guys have an inferiority complex when it comes to hip hop because you feel like we didn't "rate" you guys and now we're catching wind and you want shun us the same you feel we've been shunning you.. Stop it 5...we all love good music. Take down the anti-American rant down a bit and enjoy the wave.
+vurbzfenomeno ^^This so much. All this music shit is meant to be all love: inclusive, not hateful. mfs gotta cut that shit out.
Love how skeps remembers those who helped him like Westwood, always aided him in the come up. Even when Westwoods getting sided by BBC, skeptas still keeping to him
Good interview. Shows how real my guy is.
Why is Skepta acting all weird for.. wake up man. Some dry replies.
Ash Bash Yeah he acts like that when he aint really comfortable with the interviewer.
Ash Bash for real hes acting like shy giggs
Diamondz ooh ok.. surprised.. not the first time he's met Rosenberg and Rosenberg is chill as fuck. Not like he's putting him under pressure.
icemankilik haha for real just like shy Giggs
Ash Bash uh he could be tired? he's only human guys
Really feeling this interview, and liking skepta's not giving a fuck vibe. However London is not a small place, it's massive and is bigger in size and population than any US city. fyi
Emc2ky tell dem way dere
He was speaking metaphorically with regards to music - specifically the grime community but geographically & statistically, there is no doubt London is 'proper massive'!
I know, he weren't really clear that it was regards to music, but I feel u!
Emc2ky London is small in size, grime/urban community etc.To drive from North to south london is no longer than an hr long. EVERYONE KNOWS EACH OTHER. You will only understand if u live there.
showerman lengmanting I live in London bruh, all my life. it's bigger than NYC, damn just google it and you will see it's fact. To drive from North to South would always be easy, try driving from NE to SW.
Great job Rosenberg with playing the "Beautiful Life" instrumental in the background for a few moments
Very good interview, time flew watching this.
Wish Rosenberg was playing UK beats or songs in the background though.
Very real. You don't have to be extravagant to get your point across and he will stay winning because he is true to who he is and knows what he wants. Smart move not having a Drake feature on Shutdown. Rosenberg you don't know much about the UK music scene. MMG yeah okay fair enough... but we jump at pretty much any American track not just ones by Rozay and we f*ck with Drake hard cause he f*cks with Skepta. But at the same time thank you Rosenberg for keeping an eye on the UK music scene and bringing artists to the forefront. Now time to notice Funkyhouse...Donaeo. Maybe J hus will get his US shine now too Lol. Also, they should've got Skepta to spit. Grime artists are still hustlin' unlike American rappers who are globally known(because if you blow up in America...you've basically made it) so of course it's unlikely to see big American rappers sitting in the room doing cyphers nowadays.
haha rosenberg brought up dizzie, skepta's face like nah
I swear this man put the Grimm on the map. RESPECT !!!!🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Boy better know for life, respect
