Surprised at the number of people that didn't know Steve could sing. He was doing lead vocals on Flex-Able back in 1983. On Sex & Religion, 1993, he sang lead vocal on Rescue Me or Bury Me, and has regularly sung ever since.

I think he fits the category of "musicians with questionable voices and songwriting who are able to perform their vocal music thanks to being much better at something else". Bit of a long genre, though.

I was so surprised to hear his singing voice. I was very impressed when I bought this on DVD. Not only does he have the ability to "wow" and inspire people with his fluidity and compositions, his voice is a plus. Steve Vai is the definition of "Shock n' All!"

And though the sun goes down
The fever you adore is burning in your breast
Helpless in the fall from paradise into your bed
For here it is sown, in time we forget what is man
    Don't let your body cry
This game of love is war
    And I'm already dead
You say- Hold me down and wash away
    This hunger from my flesh
And make me reborn in sweet innocence
Come on and make me live
    It's voodoo that you possess
    (Your heaven is danger)
Deny your dark side, I know
    All about your secret life
    Oh Eve
And so the moon is high
I see that love is blind
To the fire in your eyes
    As our garden fiercely burns
We have no place to hide
Naked and cold running from the wind
    Now wrapped in skin
    It's voodoo that you possess
    (Your heaven is danger)
Deny your dark side, I know
    All about your secret life
    It's voodoo that you possess
    (Your heaven is danger)
    Behind those lucid eyes
The shadow of the serpent lies
    Oh Eve
    All about Eve
And though the sun goes down
    The mortals never know

The heaven they thought they would have after being deceived and eating the forbidden fruit. As much as the devil tempted and deceived them they would be as knowledgeable as God, they fell from paradise. That heaven is danger, the current world we live in due to the Fall from Paradise.

P-rayer & the Cube of Space
This is "Right, Up Front" or True, +, Positive...
When you Cross (+) yourself you put 3 fingers together. These three fingers (.: three Points) form a Triangle (∆, "Tri" means three, see also the Delta: a Greek letter, a Flat Surface or 2D Geometric Plane, Fire or Air Element, or even the company Delta Air Plane, Airlines), or Arrow Pointing to directions. You then move your Right hand in this Rite, or Ritual ("Writing") in Four directions:
Up (touching the head or forehead, Mind's eye), Down (touching the breast, heart), Right (touching the right shoulder), Left (touching the left shoulder). These Four Directions are Four Points. If you connect the Four Points you get a Square (or a Pyramid).
Additionally (+), we are moving Deosil, Dexter or Sunwise, Right and Up, First. Now Know this re-Present-s coming into Consciousness, our body taking ON the motions Reflecting the Forms, Shapes or Symbols corresponding to Natural processes. We "Rise and Shine", become Conscious (B-Right) with the Sunrise 🌅 when we "Get Up" Vertically, Positive (+), Active (Yang) from a Supine, Horizontal, Negative (-), Passive (Yin) position.
"Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise" - John Clarke, in “Parœmiologia Anglo-Latina” or 'Proverbs English, and Latin' 1639.
4X3=12. 12 Lines make a Cube or three dimensional Space, like a room with 4 walls, floor and ceiling. The Individual, Observer, or Point of View, soul (sol, solar p-ray-ing on Sun-day) stands (vertical, erect) in the room.
Eve corresponds to Evening, Yin, Subconscious, Passive and Adam (David) corresponds to Day, Sun, Yang, Consciousness or the Active (Principle, Prince, etc). So.. we may say in the beginning Nothing("God") created Yin and Yang, Up/Down, Right/Left, Forward/Back placing the Individual Consciousness at the Center of the room, or 3D (3 dimensional Space). The Cube is composed of 12 lines. This is why the Son, Sun of God or Consciousness is at the Center of 12 Apostles. Furthermore (>), the number Twelve is significant because there are 12 Months, 12 Hours (Time), 12 Colors (3 primary, 3 secondary, 6 tertiary), 12 Inches to 1 Foot (Ruler), 12 Musical Notes (Space)...
Down (-), Fall, Eve, Evening, Dark, Hell, Subconscious exist because of Up (+), Rise, Dave(Adam), Day, Heaven, Consciousness. You can't have an Up without a Down. You can't have a Forward without a Back. You can't have a Right without a Left (Wrong). You can't have Time/Space and Individual Point of View, Consciousness without 3D Space!!!
Once we have asserted our Individuality, Consciousness, Point of View, Self ("I am"), we put our hands together with the Left hand Reflecting the Right, symbolizing the Union of Opposites (Balance) Yin/Yang, Shakti/Shiva, etc and the Transcendence of them (thought, Duality), the Mind (two Hemispheres of the Mind, Female, Male) or 2=0 Mysticism, Only Silence (inner silence) can Express.
-Ian Axir, 66° (32°, 64°), Supreme Grand Master, Supreme Magus, 0IS (Order of the Invisible Sun), Clandestine Lodge

Mr. Vai's voice sounds a little bit like Steven Tyler's voice at times (like on the chorus). I think Mr.Vai's voice is richer and fuller, though, as it is lower.

He doesn't shred that often. You need to understand that there's different elements of music that can be used to bring upon different human feelings, and they are interpreted through chords, arpeggios, legato, sweeps, speed, shredding etc. Steve already said many times, that he creates a story with everything he plays, and does it with feeling, with how he feels, whether it's a chord, to a high-speed shred piece. Steve has his own original style, and with it creates beautiful music. Dont judge

yep, I think that he is more than a guitarist. He is a true musician and when you are a musicion and not an instrumentalist you have everything it takes but a voice. Pitch, timing etc. Singing is not THAT difficult. I for example do not like my voice and I do not always hit notes precisely enough to be a true singer but I can still sing enough for the songs I write.

Maybe Mr Vai could give Zakk Wylde some vocal lessons (cause Zakk can play like a son of a bitch but his "singing" is atrocious).
