I think this could be the best composition ever made, for this kind of music. No others better in all the world panorama. Only the very expert can understand how high is this performance of all the group. Top top top quality in every sense. You can feel also arabic style on it. Changing of rhythm. perfect timing. Really only the top musicians can understand it. Only the greatest composer can only imagine this
the rearrangement on the duet violins instead of a piano is super awesome. and I guess the guitar duet in the mid part was an improvisation? it's so entertaining, if you are a guitarist u know what i'm talking about, it's very interesting for what they had played during the duet. Angel Food is one my fav tracks, this piece is so beautiful and it's so exciting to see its live with many genius players, perfect execution!
@xDSxArcher this is probably the third time ive listened to vai play acoustic. But this is on a whole other level from his electric playing. what he's doing here is a whole new level of difficult. Even when only looking at how its arranged. He sing better than most popular pop stars too! just pure amazing.
I've always loved this section of Fire Garden, but man... this takes it to a new level. This may look deceptively simple, but it's a ridiculously complex little piece of music for just being a handful of instruments. So each time you can discover something subtle that adds to the whole.
SO dynamic and interesting how beautiful, It's just amazing. I hope Steve gets to age 200 or something, I want to spend the rest of my life listening to his music and enjoying every little second of it, because Steve's music is just beyond the limit. I really appreciate the fact that Steve is still around, and always evolving, at least the world isn't completely filled with meaningless "music" such as lil wayne, jay-z, lady-gaga etc, and all those pretenders. But oh well...
@RdHerbert1 Vai termed Angel Food as the second part of Devil's Food(Alive in Ultra World Album) Devils Food is a song came from his friend Alice Cooper Alright! Rock-On!!
@xDSxArcher I actually completely agree with your original statement. It's true- people who listen to purely mainstream music do shut a lot of 'musical doors'. My friends listen to mainly mainstream stuff, and they simply don't get anything that has a slightly odd timing or interesting chord progression- that stuff being what I listen too, i.e Steve Vai- Dream Theater etc. Sure you, could have phrased it nicer but you were honest, and there really are people who cant grasp this kind of stuff.
@db1each Actually, this song is so beautiful that pretentious me didn't even notice that this piece is simple. My tears of joy didn't stop just because it isn't as complicated as "Love Secrets". When music is this beautiful, even musicians don't notice how simple or complicated it is, so I think you guys are missing the point
@TomRoumanas It would sound good on an electric guitar with Vai's usual pickup configuration, as long as he uses the clean channel; no distortion. However, you are incorrect: this song probably uses exactly the same guitar he used 11 years earlier in the studio; this song WAS intended to be acoustic
@Paolo8772 thats exactly what i was saying... by `i dont think so` i meant i dont think its meant for the electric guitar because BJrok made a stupid comment saying he should stick to playing the electric guitar because thats all hes good for. I find his accoustic songs and playing rather genius.
@StevieVaibanez yes, but music that people listen isn't a "gift" its a choice, and that is the point i was trying to make. This music is more complex, but many people start off listening to simpler music, and then transfer over and learn musical theory, and get into more unique progressions and so on.
@xDSxArcher I think this is truthfully amazing and I don't think I hear the transitions and harmonics in this ... can you please explain them to me , sorry for my ignorance , but i Still admire ALL of Vai's work
Vai is a great electric guitarist, dunno about his acoustic stuff though - along the lines of what he might have been trying to do in a performance sense (but still way off) with this piece... On RUclips... friday night in san francisco short tales of the black forest.
Hey I'm a guitar player too, and I've been playing for a couple of months, I share your same interest with the improv in the middle of the song, but can you tell me what chords and scales are they using? Specially steve, I hate being in the dark like this, I haven't been playing guitar for that long, and I hate wondering what the hell am i listening to, in terms of scales, modes, chords etc. man music is such a long journey.
@xDSxArcher although i love this piece, saying "most of us are not musically gifted enough to hear the transitions and harmonics" is not only really pretentious, but also a load of bs. Everyone has different musical tastes; learn to respect them.
Unbelievable. I was watching kung fu TV show on YT and the opening theme kept nagging at me. Where have i heard that before, and lo and behold, steve vai came to mind. If it's a coincidence, then ok, but If not, then shame on Steve. I still love his guitar playing despite. At any rate, Led Zep stole a whole lotta older blues songs from the 20's 30's era.
@xDSxArcher i most true that most people don't understand the theory behind it, but the part that bugs me is that you say "most of us are not musically gifed enough to hear why this is amazing". It just sounded to me like you had some kind of inherent sense of superiority to other listeners, but thats just what i got out of it.
Going to have to side with RetroishDude on this one. Of course people can not like Vai's music, or his tones, or his solos, whatever, but to call him a shit composer shows musical ignorance on your part. It's like calling Van Gogh a shit artist, or Shakespeare a shit playwright. You don't have to like their finished product of course, but they're obviously not shit at composing their own respective media.
Hmm... I much much much more appreciate the ultra zone version of this... this is probably amazing to watch live, but it seems to lack the energy the song once had.
This is not just rock music, this is modern music at its BEST!
this song is actualy from a melody he maked back in the album Fire Garden, and its called Fire Garden Suite :)
Excellent performance! Congrats Steve!! And to all the band also!!
favorite song from Steve Vai
Incredible performance!!
Best in the world

it's beautiful...

during the acoustic guitar duet (Weiner/Vai), the bass player job is pretty awesome !
Dave is awesome!
love the violin in this song sounds so beautyful along with vai amazing skills
Well, first time ive seen an Acoustic guitar battle :D
that facial expressioin at 1:27 is incomparable...
wow.. you guys are awesome..
Genius!
i love it very good, one of a kind
Too wonderful for words
Vai's "lick" at 2:54 is the best!
It's much better with the piano in my opinion.
this is beautiful. thank you steve vai..
i got chills towards the end. the musicians are so tight and precise!
Obra de arte.....
Wooww... Awesome....!!!

4:11 is so beautiful

i love it very good, one of a kind, very cool

one person didn't liked
much better than the studio version, although I love the piano sections on the studio one.
i love it very good, one of a kind, very cool, its blends with its other
O anjo não tem mais fome.
Steve é o mestre supremo!

muito bom!!!!!!
I love the whole tone stuff in the solos xD
Cannot thankyou enough

This guy David Fantasia does a great cover of this song :)
nice drum
@ChetZenor
I agree, good point.
Track down the Freak Show Excess performance from this dvd and check out his solo section. An incredible piece of work.
2:15 .... -> epic duel of guitar !
Damn, Vai is (in the words from Paul from the Letterman Show) "like.. too much, man."
@Paolo8772 thats exactly what i was saying... by `i dont think so` i meant i dont think its meant for the electric guitar because BJrok made a stupid comment saying he should stick to playing the electric guitar because thats all hes good for. I find his accoustic songs and playing rather genius.

4:15 Wait... Mellisa's garden?!
I love songs about LSD
@xDSxArcher I think this is truthfully amazing and I don't think I hear the transitions and harmonics in this ... can you please explain them to me , sorry for my ignorance , but i Still admire ALL of Vai's work
is there a dvd of this concert? can I buy it somewhere? Where this concert was done? I can' stop listening to this song anymore..
Vai is a great electric guitarist, dunno about his acoustic stuff though - along the lines of what he might have been trying to do in a performance sense (but still way off) with this piece... On RUclips... friday night in san francisco short tales of the black forest.
some parts remind me of zappa's ''the ocean is the ultimate solution'' (great pun eh). nice to hear acoustic steve.
I wish I were an angel so I could eat food like this. Carrots are good for your eyes, is vai good for your ears?
@BJrok so this song would sound good if he was using an electric guitar ..ya i dont think so its meant for the accoustic
Vai looks like a Native American Jim Carey.
very good song but i dont know how he thought of "angel food" as the title lol
Drummer : "I look like a Jack Ass"

I don't think anybody can help you with that...It's Vai
Well, you have to give Satriani credit for still playing guitar even though he well knows that Vai is his owner.
oi

hey, a guitar without effects is still amazing :)
@xDSxArcher although i love this piece, saying "most of us are not musically gifted enough to hear the transitions and harmonics" is not only really pretentious, but also a load of bs. Everyone has different musical tastes; learn to respect them.
Duck skin
@TommittajaFIN T'was a joke, relax son.
Better than the studio version. Check out my guitar vids! Thanks!

wow, i just got high legally and for free by just watching this

Sorry this is inapropriate material because of sexual material.
I mean look at his face at 1:27!
2:42 appears with woddy woddpecker´s theme :D ???
Is this St Sanders?
Going to have to side with RetroishDude on this one.

As amazing he is as an electric guitar player...his acoustic stuff doesn't really match up. Hate to say this but it's Kinda boring to be honest.
