The whole “use the same melody over a different rhythm” and “use the same rhythm with different notes” is an amazing concept for teaching improvisation. I think it’s hard to make improv sound musical without a solid foundation in “variation on the melody” and those exercises are perfect for getting my that foundation down! I loved those tips
Whenever improving slowly, I feel like I can craft a smooth, tasteful and melodic melody. However, whenever the bpm starts getting fast, my playing just sounds like a bunch of scales playing quickly and I tend to pick notes twice to fill up the beat due to the quick tempos. What are tips to playing quickly but always musically? How can I play a fiddle tune whose song’s melody is composed of 1/4 and 1/8th notes with 16th notes and up, and it still be tasteful and sound like the fiddle tune?
