@fixitnick, put the truck under a load like with a heavy trailer, and he if it makes a difference, also try to make the truck pull more air in with a tune.
I bought one the same as yours but the adjustment bar of the old one is shorter than the new one and ahu giving all the adjustment to make it as short as possible, it is still a bit long, what can I do about it?
hey nick great video i know you made this a while ago but it was great instruction. As a marine mechanic i saw this and did actually found why you are not creating more than 25 psi, your map sensor has a dump load setting on it that is stock on the vehicle and can be disabled with a boost fooler. this is if you want to create more than 25 psi, to find this info i did it myself and ordered a waste gate and a fooler and created almost 35 psi. you probably know this by now but thought id throw it out there. great vid
Correct about the fooler, but also it may not have been adjusted properly for his truck. I may have been opening as far as that setting is effected, by the gate. You can shorten the rod by turning the adjusting connection. Shortening it makes your pressure build sooner, thus allowing more boost fully open.
I would assume the reason why you are only getting to 22-23 psi is due to not having a tune/boost fooler, when the computer reads a certain psi (in this case 22-23psi) it will cut fuel to a lower duty cycle to prevent overboost
Never thought of changing the boost waist gate. Being an old aircraft mechanic think I would replace the clip with a wrap of safety wire. Interesting to know how this effects turbo lag. Paper towels, what a great idea. Nick I cover my engine with old pillows when I lay on it, much more comfortable. Your testing is always interesting to me, it's real time data.
2000 F250 7.Tree with 205k miles and a 2001 F450 8.Tree with 315k miles. I would be very appreciative for the waste gate. Nice Videos Nick and sweet truck you got. I enjoy your videos I get a lot of good info from them and I'll continue to watch and learn. Thank man!
Hello Nick. I'm thinking the reason that your only seeing 22 - 23 pounds of boost is when the map sensor sees 22 pounds it defuels the engine. That's why your repeatedly seeing the 22-23 lbs. The map sensor is working. I ordered a new 1/4" mini pressure regulator (like 10 or 12 bucks) and put two 1/4" barb connectors on it and preset it to 20 lbs. Then I cut the map sensor line about half way between the map sensor and the slip on connector on the intake spider and mounted it there. So now when I mash on it. The map sensor only sees the preset 20lbs but the boost gauge will continue to climb. BUT! You really need a EGT gauge to keep an eye on those exhaust temps now. Keep it below 1300° . Also need a fuel pressure gauge. I know you put 70 & 70+ pound springs in the fuel return but if the pump is weak and supply may be low as well. Thus the fuel pressure gauge will tell you. It takes fuel to make power. Peace.
@@FixItNick That's great but it will not stop it from defueling. When the map sensor sees 23 pounds of boost it sends this information to the trucks ECM . Then the ECM defuels the motor so that it will only boost to 22 pounds. You can buy a boost fooler like this shop.fullforcediesel.com/boost-fooler but I built mine just like it for 15 bucks. Then just preset the regulator to twenty pounds and your good to go.
2001 7.3 here. My first truck I bought and fixed up myself. Did injector cups. Injector seals. Oil cooler. UVCH. Coolant Filter. intake. etc. Would Love to win the 7.3 waste gate Nick! You know how it is at 16 years old!
Love your videos Nick! I just ordered 33psi billet wastegate. I have the edge chip on my truck . 2001 Ford F-350 7.3 diesel. I also removed my air box and put in a K&N filter. I know it’s not as good as the SB filter. I like it though. Thank you for your videos.
We can see your retainer clip It's laying on the back of the Turbo right behind where is came from just look closely @20:13 time frame, you'll see it too
You need to hook the loop side of the clip with your pick and carefully slide it out. I'm sure you probably already figured it out but this might help others.
7.3 wastage grate. Would love to have a 33psi wasn’t gate. The old retainer clip was sitting on the turbo next to he wastage arm. You can also just a wastegate arm for more resistance to get more boost
Exhaust pressure is assisting boost pressure on the diaphragm as exhaust pressure flowing against wastegate is why the 30psi dropped to the 23psi. Im running 42psi out of my 7.3 at 650hp.
The reason why it never built more than 23psi is because a wastegate needs to be preloaded to work properly try shorting the rod 1 turn at a time until you get the desired boost.
Did you see your clip? It’s in the shot when you show the bolts for the waste gate!!??!! I would love to have that waste gate, it would be my first mod. Love the videos, keep it up brotha
It still be interesting to first put the boost fooler and see how much boost you will get. Then put the tuner and see how much more boost you will get.
FixItNick, if you look at your video at 5:12 you will see your old retainer clip behind the turbo wastegate operation lever, and you might want to get back in there and check the jam nut on the rod
22 psi is controlled by the factory ecu. You will not get more then that without a tuner. Above 23 psi you will get a check engine light for overboost. Once you do a tuner you will need an electronic boost cooler to not allow the map sensor to see over 23 psi then with ur mechanical boost gauge u will be able to view actual boost
@@tiktatttoe go to power stroke help on RUclips watch the 7.3l fuel mods. It’s a good first step and is all free. After that if you want more fuel it would be a lift pump and injectors

I run Riff Raff’s OCR. It Will trick the map sensor into thinking it’s not reading max boost. Therefore not defueling and allowing you to reach a little more boost then 22 or 23 psi. Even when I had a stock turbo I still got around 26 PSI. ... I hope that helps buddy 😎

Shorten the actuator rod. For every one turn inward is 1 pound of boost so for 1 full pound do 1 full turn on the actuator arm where it attaches to the Turbo.
May be a dumb question but is this to be used in conjunction with a boost fooler or will this alone take care of the pcm defueling at higher psi levels?
You can buy assorted size c clips at harbor freight for a few dollars and there’s one that fits perfect I had the same issue but happened to have the box of c clips laying around the shop
Ps: stick a magnet back there next time you take e clip off right next to it and magnet will suck it up when it pops off! Also, try adjusting the rod length if you want a bit more psi/open later should see a bit higher psi. If you really want higher psi you would need a different housing/compressor wheel and atleast a 360* oil ring in oil housing.

Your computer automatically de-fuels at 23 psi. The only circumvent is an overboost code regulator. You can find the best one on the market made by Riffraff Diesel. Have one on my truck with a Banks Big Head wastegate and I see 30 psi no problem.
You most likely don't have enough fuel on that tune to push past the 23 psi. But thank you for the review I need a new gate and was looking at this exact one.
Late 99 stock turbo 4inch down pipe 5inch after larger air cleaner international up pipes dp tuner on 140 tune automatic trans 32 pounds with the red line pulled off...
Or adjust the original waste gate rod... here's another try. Put brake to the floor and Rev her to 3200 rpm and watch the harbor freight boost guage...lol
Fixitnick we have the same truck same year and all ive already done injector cups on mine and a new waterpump and ive has the wastegate disconnect for a while i would like to have it 7.3 turbo diesel for life
The turbo is the problem. It can only make 22/23 psi. Without other upgrades you won't see an increase. Unplugging that red hose will give max pressure. A different Wastegate won't change that.
If you haven't given the "extra" wastegate away yet, please add me to the drawing. By the way, your retainer clip didn't fly away. It's right next to the wastegate arm.
Is this going to increase towing ability? or just make truck faster. I have a hell of a time getting a tractor through the mountains. I need tow power. i have a sct tuner that gives me a whopping 25 extra (hp). Doesnt help. napa 6637 air cleaner, i have 4 inch exhaust on the way. i dont know what to do next. Im not dumping a bunch of money with injectors and such. I see things like new turbo wheels and bigg boost, etc. I need some power. All i ever see is dudes wanting to go faster
Your boost will be higher with your old WG the spring is not as tight. Your new WG is much more firm as you demonstrated. You need a tuner now, go with HYDRA chip you will thank me later.

Winner didn’t contact me to get WG I’ll be picking another winner in following up F350 video
You need to adjust the rod to have a higher PSI
Or adjust the original waste gate rod... here's another try. Put brake to the floor and Rev her to 3200 rpm and watch the harbor freight boost guage...lol
What are the EGT s like
Great video Nick
Thx
Probably defueling if you do not have a boost fooler.
Yes likely, I need a tuner!
7.3 Wastegate. I would love to put one on my 2002. I don't get anywhere near 22 PSI.
Hey FixItNick !
I would like to have the 7.3 WasteGate for my other project.
Thank you 😊

Do you have a stock turbo?
Adjust the waiste gate ! And you will get more boost ! 6 to 8 full turns !
I purchased the same part and what I did on mine Was make it thinner with the grinder
Yea that’s another good options as well, I figure this was faster and I’ll probably thinner out the other piece cuz it came with 2
The turbo is the problem. It can only make 22/23 psi. Without other upgrades you won't see an increase. Unplugging that red hose will give max pressure. A different Wastegate won't change that.
The stock turbo can do over 30psi actually, it defuels, I need a Tuner
If you haven't given the "extra" wastegate away yet, please add me to the drawing. By the way, your retainer clip didn't fly away. It's right next to the wastegate arm.
Sorry already gone
My co worker has a 7.3 I’d love to hook him up he’s been have trouble with his waste gate while pulling a trailer any advice
Sorry this ended a while ago, it could be a number of things
That waste gate would look good next to my new turbo on my 7.3
Yes it would lol
The new waste gate is nice
Is this going to increase towing ability? or just make truck faster. I have a hell of a time getting a tractor through the mountains. I need tow power. i have a sct tuner that gives me a whopping 25 extra (hp). Doesnt help. napa 6637 air cleaner, i have 4 inch exhaust on the way. i dont know what to do next. Im not dumping a bunch of money with injectors and such.
I see things like new turbo wheels and bigg boost, etc. I need some power. All i ever see is dudes wanting to go faster
Turbo wheel would help a good amount for sure, exhaust as well
7.3 Wastegate. My factory stock purple 1999 would appreciate the upgrade

Your boost will be higher with your old WG the spring is not as tight. Your new WG is much more firm as you demonstrated. You need a tuner now, go with HYDRA chip you will thank me later.
Yes I agree and I will get hydra soon
Very good video I have a 02 7.3 and would like to have a new waste gate
