    As one of the engineers that worked on developing the 7.3L, I can tell a little about the history of that valve. Terry W. was the turbo engineer. He had an old evap solenoid for a Chrysler lying around. The rest is history. It did take some tweaking of the PWM carrier frequency to get OK control. ...And that is the history.
    I know that people will tell me that I am all wrong. That is what the keyboard warriors do. They weren't there in 1991.

      You really ought to make some videos on the design and engineering of the 7.3, there are a lot of diehard fans out there, and you would be memorializing the information for all to see, for years to come

    I just got my 2002 f350 PSD back from a reputable shop and now my Waste gate sputters like a machine gun going up and incline pulling a trailer. My gauge shows 24psi max under this load. It has a bully dog tune that came with my truck when I bought it in 2005 but I've never had any issues until now. They replaced my up pipes and had my turbo off as well I believe but I have not talked to the "technician" yet. I'm making a list of things for them to recheck when I have time to give up my truck. I have # 4 and # 8 injectors that may be weak but they come on strong in the heat here in Texas..( could this be part of my issue ?) This is the last time I will ever let someone else work on my truck. I've always done the wrenching in the past but I got soft this one time. Never again ! Thanks for your videos !

    I had overboost code, turbo got hot and melted my wastegate wire, truck blows CRAP ton of white smoke when coming out of high revs or a stop from high revs. Can’t really notice the white smoke at idle or driving. Been looking so hard for soulution hopefully you can help. Now my trucks not making any boost, weak, and throwing these two codes
    P0237 - Turbo/Super Charger Boost Sensor A Circuit Low
    P1247 - Turbo Boost Pressure Low

    Clint. I thought of you today. I drove my truck all the way to work (1hr through the hills with grades included) and I forgot to do two things since I worked on the truck yesterday. Tighten turbo bolt 1 and tighten turbo bolt 2. I noticed I had an oil leak when I arrived at work. My truck was perfectly to the top of the fuel line on the dipstick before I left for work. I’m just curious how accurately you can guess this question and I believe you can take the cake as THE #1 7.3 guy!!! How much oil that I lose on my way to work. Another important detail is both of the bolts were only started on the threads. I have never gone back and tighten them nor threaded them in all the way

    Interesting info. I might put one back on mine just see if theres a difference when its functioning properly. Ive owned and several 7.3s and always thought everyone just threw that junk boost solenoid in the trash. Ive never noticed a difference when its removed. I get it though some like to keep factory components intact.

    Just had a KC Stage 1 turbo put in, EBVP ped delete, up pipes etc. Have intake/exhaust, no tunes. Went on a trip soon after w trailer, got there and checked my CTS for codes and P1249 was one of them which said overboost. I did hit 24 lbs of boost a couple times and I think I experienced defueling. Wondering if I need that boost fooler valve or if that’s a bad idea to let more boost occur with transmission reliability. Looking forward to your video on that too. 👍🏻 Also had P1119, 0603, 0541, 0475. 0603 is just from disconnecting batteries. I did put in the RiffRaff EBVP plug to stop its code when I got home, P0475. Cleared all codes, none have come back. Truck is running smooth so I’m wondering if other codes besides overboost just occurred from the work being done, but I am watching it. I imagine if I go hit 24 lbs again it’ll throw that overboost code again. Thanks again for another valuable video!

    Why does my wastegate control valve rattle with the key on, but engine off?

  • @treeofliberty4407
    @treeofliberty4407 5 месяцев назад

    What is the thing to the left of the wastegate control valve sensor? It has a brass knob and porcelain non conductive ring. It has a Ground wire leading to my driverside block and a hot leading to one of things that maybe run my glow plugs? I had to disconnect them to remove my engine harness and for the life of me i cant remember how they went back on. I did tape and number every other connectors but didnt think id be be taking these off at first and then forgot. I hooked them back how i thought and started a fire with it melting each wire loom. Im more of a mechanic when it comes to an old wrangler thats fool proof.

    Kind of late to the party here, but could this issue possibly have some convinced its a transmission/torque converter issue due to the lag/lack of psi building? I was thinking that was my issue, especially when towing a trailer with skidsteer. I know the power isn't being generated. The oil build up on the actuator was a tell tale sign too.

    I have this exact solenoid on my 7.3, it's making a buzzing sound when I turn the key to ignition. It won't let the truck start, I replaced it & it ran for a couple days, but now it's doing it all again. Any ideas on what could be causing this? I thought maybe it could be stuck or frozen but even after removing it, tapping on it & warming it up some it's still the same issue. The voltage going to it is good as well.

      its not uncommon in the last 2 years to get bad parts Quality is way down of late so thats one issue the second which is rare the wire harness is grounding out ever so slightly some where from the computer to the sensor

    Is there a video on the transmission speed sensor and the vehicle speed sensor on the rear differential?
    Both my speedometer and odometer stopped working at the same time. There was a jolt, like the trans hard shifted, I looked down and no speedo or odometer.
    I replaced the VSS on the rear diff and the sensor on the top of the transmission but still no luck 🤷‍♂️

    • @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD

      This is hard with the limited info, possible issue, wire harness from trans or NSS // rubbed trough wire in the steering column // water in the GEM // PCM fault // The last last last back cluster // CEL may not be on but you can check for code with a good reader to rule out PCM fault /// wires sometimes can be checked by wiggle testing have someone watch the cluster and you go around wiggling wires harness and pulling back and fourth

    After looking at this inside out this valve doesn't open waste gate it accually dumps boost back to the intake the wastegate is an adter thought when all else fail it will open

    • @carkivey3
      @carkivey3 9 месяцев назад

      no one is really explaining operation very well. appears to me to be a normally open valve. normal operatione pressure on red hose goes out the green and into intake. if boost gets high pcm signals solenoid to close and pressure builds in red hose and opens wastegate valve to decrease exhaust flow thru turbo thereby decreasing output from turbo

I run no wastegate for more boost i quest my question is if the truck sees this not connected could it defuel or go into a limp mode and does the transmission use this sensor for shifting

    • @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD
      @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD  2 года назад +4

      Please go out and hook this back up! There are people with engineering degree's that put that thing on there for a reason .First that turbo is designed to have a max rpm the gate opens so you don't blow up the impeller wheel turbo wheel suck that into your motor its done, Next your heating the crap out of the bearing and if its the stock unit with the sleeve its getting cooked, next under heavy acceleration and quick off the pedal you are causing a pressure indifference between incoming air and out going exhaust wrecking the turbo and potentially busting a piston, valve, push rod, or main rod JUST so you can have 4 more PSI of boost . Nothing wrong with a boost fooler not a real fan but its safer If you need more boost get a larger turbo that is designed to be a larger turbo and won't wonk out the motor or blow up by design.
