A very good checklist to go through. I was taught to have 70% of my weight in my right foot in my backswing, so that was what caused me problems. Also had problem with rotation which your videos on shoulder tilt helped me fix. Besides hitting fat shots, I also sliced and shot right of the target a lot. What helped me was focusing much more on externally rotating my right shoulder in stead of supinating my wrists (which I did way too much of) in the back swing to get my club more vertically straight at the top - it was brought to my attention after watching your video: "GOLF: How To Make The Perfect Backswing - Right Arm". Thanks for all your tips and tricks, Eric.
Good video & good advice. Had the "fats" two years ago: it was awful. They eventually went away, but if they ever come back, I've now got three ways to get rid of them. That's a big deal: appreciate the plain talking, sound advice, Eric.
Great tuition as always Eric. KISS principle (keep it simple stupid) works every time. Keep it coming. If I was a little closer to Bethlehem golf club I would come over for some tuition but the video will have to do for now as I am in St Ives, UK!
#3 is my issue, you're the only instructor I've seen that includes hinging and possibly shortening the right arm as a "cure". But I believe there is another dimension to this (not being contentious, you are the expert, but a PGA instructor at a clinic I took once told me this), and that is the speed of rotation, or swing speed. When I bend my trail wrist back I try not to "lock" it; i.e. I try to keep it somewhat loose so the club head can "release". Unfortunately, I don't generate much rotational speed so the wrists actually unhinge early, causing the club head to strike the ground behind the ball. The faster I swing, the less time the wrists have to unhinge, so the low point actually gets in front of the ball. In other words, "time" is a dimension in #3; the less of it you give the wrists to unhinge the more likely it is your low point will be where your sternum is pointing. At least that's what the instructor told me. Regardless, thanks for the video; it's certainly not the "same thing you see everywhere else on YT".
Had perfect baby draws. Started to slice the ball after the winter break. I saw the video on using the right shoulder/elbow. On having the right under arm pointing towards the sky. Now I've reached the point hitting fat shots. What is the next thing? Love golf.
Send swings to www.cogornogolf.com we can fix that for you In the meantime try some of these: ruclips.net/video/Wwm_6XkNkBU/видео.html&pp=ygUmRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGZhdCBzaG90cyBoaXQgYmVoaW5kIGJhbGw%3D

I've been using one ball position for years(clubhead inside left heel). Could that be a cause? Played 3 rounds this weekend in Myrtle Beach and the fat shot is the bain of my golf game. Nothing worse than 20 foot fat shot after great drive!
Good vid, thanks. Over the years I have been told I don't turn very well through the ball but I have also been told my shoulder turn needs to be steeper. What I don't understand is how I can get my chest more open at impact at the same time as having a steep shoulder turn?
You can open and at the same time add "right side bend" to add shoulder tilt. Rotation and side bend go together so that should be no issue. Ofcourse I would have to see you swing to give you specific advice.
Maybe its just me but I find this quite difficult. I am doing a 3D bio-mechanical analysis of my swing in a couple of weeks time. That might highlight some physical limitations or I might come away thinking I just need to practice it more.
Yep, I am very interested too not having done anything like this before. I took up golf at an older age and have an arthritic complaint that has always made me wonder to what extent my swing is limited by sub normal (whatever that means) flexibility. It might turn out that this is just an excuse for my inability to progress. Actually, this is all about one's aspirations in the game. There are plenty of people I play golf with who are perfectly happy to carry on as they are. In my case, I want to see how good I can get and would probably give up and go back to tennis if I didn't think I could improve significantly.
@@CogornoGolf I had my analysis done this weekend. Turned out to be possibly the most valuable sporting related session I've ever done. Even though I've always felt I had limited thoracic mobility, it turns out that rotation is not my problem. What is a problem is positioning (of the pelvis) through the swing. This is important for me because it is apparently putting a lot of stress on my right hip and the right side of my back. If I want to keep playing golf, I have no option but to fix it - otherwise I could end up with some more serious health problems. It has also helped me to understand why I find it so hard to do the right side bend you mention to create the steeper shoulder turn! I think this kind of analysis is a great thing for golfers to do; I wish I had known about it earlier.
I really like the first 2. Can getting to quick during the downswing cause fat shots? I’ve playing 52 years and only recently started hitting fat shots. My irons were the best part of my game. Really struggling now. Thank you.
Hey James! You asked if getting quick during the downswing can cause fat shots? -It could. As for you struggling... -I hope you get it sorted out and improve!
If you bow the left wrist or hinge the right wrist early in the swing, does this not cause other problems? I was always taught to try and keeps the hands passive on the backswing?
Hey Gordon! What other problems would it create? Of course what an individual needs to feel is all RELATIVE to where they currently are. I have other videos with give checkpoints for everything...the goal is to feel whatever you need to feel to hit the check point
@@CogornoGolf thanks so much for writing back. I'm not sure of the problems it would create but almost every instructional video I've seen has stressed the importance of "quiet hands" and all of the takeaway/backswing feeling coming from the upper body?
Fat shots definitely show up every so often. When things aren't going well they can even show up with my driver & fairway woods. Very frustrating. Do you think that comes from hanging back on my right side? Anything you can help with would be appreciated!!
Hey! Unfortunately there could just be too many possible reasons why. I would need to see your swing to say for sure. Check out www.cogornogolf.com so you can send in your swings! Likely too much weight/mass to the right away from the target at some point in swing.
Eric. Good vids, just wondering with the arms, do you lock them out as they hang or do you slight twist so the elbows are turned out a bit if that makes sense
It can cause a bunch of contact issues....head moving too far forward player usually goes too far UP along with it the what make the player release the club early to lengthen the radius of the swing (get the club to the ball) Fix for that here: ruclips.net/video/hbsHxC3bIw4/видео.html ruclips.net/video/pbyZpiTnNlY/видео.html
Hey! Yeah thats common. The ground is higher behind the ball than normal with downhill lie I would put ball more back in stance....lean body more forward..weight more forward, etc

Hey John, I will send this message over to the guys and have them contact you about canceling. I hope you had a chance to join the facebook group, the live Q+A and everything else. Lots of guys posting swings that I am giving specific feedback on. If you have a few moments and don't mind helping me out...could you possibly send me an email to ecogorno@yahoo.com with your reason for canceling? What could be better on the site to fit what you're looking for? Want to make it as good as we can. Thanks!
I I have enjoyed watching your videos but the one thing I can't figure out is how come we don't are you don't slow down and super slow-mo your one shot of two shots per video to show that you're what you're trying to explain like in your why you hitting the ball fat thank you
What exactly is a fat shot? Tip for next video: state what exactly the term means that you are using. I golf by myself a lot and Im unfamiliar with certain terms.
When I first got into golf 2 years ago, I watched all of these online coaches talk about bowing your wrist in the backswing, downswing or whenever and it only made things worse. Most instructors I watch online seem to teach you to manipulate the swing so much and it shouldn’t be like that. The thing that finally helped me have an effortless swing was when I finally realized that you should be releasing the club to the target and not the golf ball. I never hear coaches talk about this. Releasing at the golf ball...this is a big reason for fat shots, thin shots, very little power, and many other things. You’re throwing away all that stored, effortless power when that should come after the ball, not at the ball. When you imagine you are throwing your club to the target and not at the ground, everything else in the swing typically should happen naturally. Same concept with any sport that involves throwing. Why aren’t coaching teaching this? Trying to bow your wrists through such a fast swing never helped me, only stressed my body more.
Hey Jonathan, Thanks for the message. I agree with you and talk about that concept often in person during lessons, not sure whether we have done a video on it or not but its something that definitely gets talked about! I don't agree that focusing on bowing the wrist is wrong or wont work or anything along those lines because Ive seen it work hundreds of times...myself included. Perhaps it didn't work for you and thats perfectly fine.
Thanks for the reply. Sorry if my reply came out a bit negative. You are right, some things work for people that may not work for others. I have recently been following your videos and they have definitely been beneficial to me so thanks for posting!

If I keep my left arm from bending in BS, this prevent straightening it in DS -gets better distance for me, cleaner hits.
