    Keeping the left hip tilted down in transition causes the lead knee to rotate toward the target and to separate from the trail knee, which is an observation many golf instructors make when analysing the swing greats, like Hogan. I've tried to duplicate that separation but never had any success with it. Thinking about keeping the left hip down makes *much* more sense, is far easier to do and results in great pelvis rotation and unforced knee separation. Pure genius! Thanks from a new subscriber.

      He is definitely the best instructor I have ever heard of, not even because of how well he is able to simply explain ideas which are actually extremely complex. What he does that sets him apart is how he is able to make the viewer feel like they are actually at the course getting a lesson in person, I will be watching a lesson and talking to the screen like he is going to hear me...lol.

    You, Clay Ballard, and Chris Ryan along with some golf channel Como and Foley lessons have opened me up to studying the technical side of the golf swing more. I got to a 2 handicap by just playing and being taught by my uncle and dad simple stuff as a kid like back to the target belt buckle to the target or left shoulder under the chin plus a couple hitting drills. I don't know if I'll improve by adding in some technical drills or not only time will tell.

    Eric it just keeps getting better and better. That little down movement of the left shoulder/knee before turning is continuing to be a godsend. I did struggle with the level turning out of my left knee and instead settled on keeping my left shoulder low and turning it through the downswing. Works a treat. Went out last night and hit 50 balls with a six iron mostly into an area not much bigger than my bedroom. Amazing, I had been having to go on a safari to pick up balls! Thanks mate. (I'm an Aussie)

    I agree with Ian. I'm like Archie (7 yrs away) . But I quit for twenty five (Med school, Grad sch, etc. Regained enough to get back down to 4 Hcp, and now the ravages of age have got me. But Eric's emphasis goes directly to questions I needed to know, and couldn't find, for 40+ years in the game. Presentation is direct, the need to find one's own modifications is properly inserted. I've followed B and M, and learned from them. But Eric goes where no one else does, and I love it. I was a slider as a kid,, but my hands were pretty good. Now, I'm lumbar-fused, re-hipped, kneed and shouldered, and don't have time to fiddle. Eric, you go to the meat most needed for the 78-90 shooter. I hope you're gettin' rich! pk Peter Kennedy MS, MD

That was exactly the "feel" I used once I played around with the thoughts GG had given on one of his videos addressing this. It's been a great swing thought for me to get me into the right position for the downswing.

Dropping my left slightly gave me something to pull against. Shot 5 under my 9 handicap and putted really badly, so need to sort my putting now ;) Cheers Eric best wishes from England

    Yeah this is another outstanding video Eric! My primary feel for the drill with the alignment stick was my right knee working to the target right away. Secondary feel was that I was right on top of the golf ball, having to keep the left shoulder lower promoted that feel. Last feel when hitting some easy shots was a squatting sensation. • @CogornoGolf

      The only reason for some ride side bend at address is the fact that your right hand is lower than left. There is no other point to it that I'm aware of.

    Eric you are a genius. Your understanding of the swing is phenomenal. I am in my 60s and played for decades as as a scratch marker and then started to struggle, so much so that I haven't played a comp for 7 years. As we all know, nothing grinds away at a golfer as a lost golf swing. I went to teacher after teacher and they were all actively promoting a slide which was killing me. Which easy feel is necessary to get the adequate right lateral bend ? Look at the ball and keep the head behind the ball ? In the video Adam Scott moves to target and then his head goes back again. Excellent explanation Eric. I’d be interested to know if golfers who wear glasses struggle with rotation more than those who don’t wear glasses. I find that I have to tilt my head down, ie chin down, more at address and can’t let my head move more naturally in the backswing in case I lose focus on the ball if the ball were to go outside of the rim of my glasses. Do you know what I mean? It’s a bit hard to explain.

    I might have missed it but do the left hip or shoulder get higher than the right at or past impact? I find my best driver swing is when I feel I take it back very low (keeping my left shoulder low) and then rotate hard with the left shoulder up and back.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  6 лет назад

      Those sounds like good feels for the left shoulder movement...
      Left hip and left shoulder are higher than the right during the late phases of the downswing, def by impact

    I’ve been trying to incorporate these same angles but I have to fight a tendency to come over the top in the downswing. Any thoughts how to deal with this while keeping left side lower?

      Have to learn to shallow the arms/club separately...would watch the videos on that as well. Lead shoulder lower with shaft shallowing is $$$$

    Compare shoulder tilt with a wedge vs. a driver. Does tilt get naturally flatter with a longer club or should it remain about the same? Something I have been working on lately as I have felt I have been too flat with all my clubs, particularly 5 iron and longer.

  • @flyingdiego470

    How can that work for driver if spine angle is tilted away from the target at adress?
    Is it a different downswing?
    Thank you

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  6 лет назад

      Still the same ideas...Driver with the ball on a tee and angle of attack more up you can do it different ways.
      With more tilt at address....your left should should still be lower than your right by top of backswing

    What the difference in left hip going down than just squatting are setting into transition ?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  5 лет назад

      If you increase the bend in the left leg the left side of pelvis should go down
      If you straighten the left leg the pelvis should go up
      If you increase bend in transition first it should go down and then as you straighten it later in downswing it should go up

  • @pohoresky

    If you add right side bend does this not raise the left hip and shoulder?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  5 лет назад

      Yes.
      Left shoulder and hip lower to start
      Then right side bend gets it back to level
      Then it goes up

    At impact (7m 59s) your left shoulder is higher than your right and your hips are about square but you seem to be saying something different like your left hip/shoulder need to be lower?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  5 лет назад

      Hey Tim!
      Left shoulder should be lower at the top of backswing
      Left shoulder still lower in transition to about left arm parallel
      You want to shoot for shoulders being same level as address at P6 (last parallel) as a stock
      LEft shoulder will go UP from last parallel through impact
      Hopefully I demonstrated OK

    Awesome Eric. Can you please explain something...why not set up with the left shoulder and left hip (a bit lower) so it already pre-sets the backswing tilts? What is the advantage of having the right shoulder lower at address? Would seem more efficient to preset the tilts a touch...am I being crazy?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  6 лет назад

      You could but...
      1. Because you grip the club with your right hand lower on the grip, that pre sets the tilts
      IF you were to add left side bend at address you would have to match a bunch of other variables...
      Make sure your right hip doesnt kick out to the right
      Keep your head from moving too much toward target with it (can be hard to rotate from)
      Change your right arm bend
      Increases odd of shoulders being aimed left
      Change the angle of the club lower
      etc, etc, etc which all have an effect.
      No rules in golf, you can do anything..give it a shot

    Confused ur another video said add right bend during downswing?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 года назад

      Hey!
      Yes you are adding right side bend........but.......because at the top you are already in left side bend....your lead shoulder and hip will remain lower to start the downswing until about 1/2 down..
      Let's say you have 30* of left side bend.......to start the downswing you are adding right side bend 1*,2*,3*, etc.......if you add 15* of right side bend to start the downswing........but you had 30* of LEFT side bend at the top........
      30* Left side bend - 15* added right side bend=you are still 15* left side bend.....
      Hope that helps

    I really enjoy your videos. Not a big deal, but I do wish you and many others would simply use 'Lead & Trail' instead of 'Left and Right'. It's just a nuisance for us lefties to have to switch every thing mentally. Anyway, thank you for the instruction.

      Hey, thanks Kevin. Ironically, when I use lead and trail side a lot of new beginner golfers who are righty will send me messages saying they wish I would just use left and right so it was easier. So I choose to annoy the lesser population : )

    Why does everybody want the hips way open before impact. If you let shoulders, arms, wrist release in front of your body your shots will be straighter, instead of swiping clubhead to left on impact. Where is the target? In front of you or to your left? If your left hand grip is too strong, you must rotate to left to square clubface at impact. So complicated, 20 moves to swing a golf club straight. Alot of player's are starting to neutralize grips to avoid lower back problems.

      Been an athlete all life. All star hockey player, baseball pitcher, competitive golfer mini tour player. I'm talking about finish position & rotating shoulders too fast. Jack Nicholas. Greg Norman, Johnny Miller & Moe Norman finished swing pointing towards target, especially Moe who hit the ball dead straight every time. A pitcher releases arm directly to target, not at 1st base. The finish is a result. Tennis forehand is side arm move. In the golf swing right arm & hand,wrist works best with submarine style baseball pitch with under hand release motion. You understand what I'm saying & your instruction is very good. 10 different instructors, 10 different opinions, & they are all right. No swing is the same period, just basic principals. The reason Revolution golf instructors are so good, they observe & inform there players who are top pro's, what they see and advise.

      Ask David Leadbetter, Nick Price trained hitting shots with right arm , hand only. Try it. This will train your right arm motion in to your swing. This is one of Ben Hogan's teachings in his book , " The 5 modern fundamentals of the golf swing" Read it & you will understand what I am taking about.

      thomas ross so you don't do what he's teaching here! I like this technical teaching in every detail here verses what you said of shoulders hands release and hitting ball with right hand what ever that is in technical way and we can critique it in technical way, some people like diferent ways of teaching I like technical then trying it practically then when I play I think one thought to know it will give me a miss on one side of course to exactly where I'm arming
