METAL LEAD GUITAR FOR BEGINNERS - 3 Methods to Learn First
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 ноя 2024
- Are you ready to learn how to play metal guitar solos? Or have you been playing guitar for a while but only consider yourself a rhythm player?
It's time to learn the 3 most important guitars for metal lead guitar (this is my opinion based on my experience, since 1989!)
Learning these methods early will help you develop your own signature style so that you won't sound like every other lead guitarist.
Here are the timestamps for each lesson:
01:28 - Method 1: Alternate Picking
09:00 - Method 2: Down Picking with Palm Muting
14:17 - Method 3: String Bending with Vibrato
After the lessons, I give you the most valuable advice you could possibly have as a guitarist and musician.
So don't miss that part!
Keep it Metal,
Jason

Yes!
Hell yea it does. He’s amazing
Yep
I’m 49 playing since I was 13 & still honing my style! Good stuff for those starting out Jason.
We’ve been at this for a little while!
Im 51 and starting today i may need a special needs course
Just wanted to say.. thank you for all of your lessons! It's exactly what I was looking for! I am a late in life starter.. started at 52.. and have been playing for 2 years...there are times I felt like giving up.. because I thought I wasn't very good..and would never be able to do things like this... No one else really teaches this.. or shows you things like this.. I am grateful to have found this.. thank you..and keep doing what your doing to help us beginner to intermediate players who want to play metal!
Thank you and really glad to hear this helped!
I bought Jason's metal rhythm coarse it helped me alot ,he was born to be a teacher I don't there's anybody better on RUclips personally then Jason as a teacher .Thank you for all you do.
I appreciate that 🙏🏻🤘
Finally somebody understands I don't want to sound like everybody else! Thanks Jason
🤘
Hey Jason I started playing a few months ago and I gotta say watching you recently has helped me to play the metal music I always wanted to play as a very beginner and now I have the confidence to start my band
Awesome to hear that!
Probably the best guitar teacher ever found on youtube. I found these exercises very very useful, thanks a lot 🖤
🙏🤘
Me too
Bro this is Rico, trying to get back to practicing. Dealing with a torn left bicep from just lifting a half empty storage bin, not even 20 pounds. Raised over my head and I was on a ladder to get it on a storage rack. I heard a pop. Makes it worst I’m left handed. Besides practicing I used to be a bodybuilder in the 80s when I lived in Europe. Had to redesign my back routine by utilizing a hammer style grip, this puts less stress. Also reduce the weight and rest between sets. Did not want to bore you but you are really cool and very humble. Even through I’m 60 and served served my country for over 40 years, became successful despite being raised from New York without a mom. My dadis my biggest inspiration. I mentored hundreds over my career did some cool and sometimes insane jobs for the military still look to the younger folks like yourself for inspiration. Keep up the good work. I read your book great job. I hope this year you achieve your goal of 100k subscribers, you worked your butt off to provide excellent content and I will pass the word to my friends about your channel. Once again did not meant for this to be long but you need to be recognized for your milestones. God bless Rico.
Brother, I appreciate your comment and it's awesome to know you've impacted so many lives. That's what it's all about. Also great to hear you're still lifting. It's in our blood and it's something we'll always do.
i'm new to lead. i like how you are showing that you can create a cool sounding lead line on just 1 string!
Yeah dude I really try to simplify things with these types of videos, so it's great to hear this helps!
I've been playing or learning guitar for the past 41 years. By 1986 I had my chops and was in my prime. I finished the 80s in a thrash band doing Slayer, Metallica, Exodus covers and originals. Grunge came and I was 21. The demand was for a whole other style of guitar. It made me lazy. By 2000 I fell into the new metal thing and was playing 7 strung guitars and focusing on playing dark down tuned guitar. Had a head injury and that put a stop to my playing. I forgot most of what I used to know. As I heald I used guitar as a coping technique and as therapy, but I was frustrated because it was as if I started all over again and barely knew any of the things I used to know. Lead playing has alluded me since I picked the guitar back up 5 years ago. This video in so.e way unlocked my memory and seemed so familiar to me. Now I'm starting to put the pieces back together with your teachings here. Thank you for this vid. Just what I needed.
Yeah, I wasn't a fan of that whole grunge era! And dude, that's awesome to hear this video helped you! Also grab my free practice guide with tabs if you don't have it yet: www.jasonstallworth.com/guitarist/
@@jasonstallworth Doing it. I have an audition tonight so I've been playing since 8 oclock this morning getting loose. I really loved the grunge era. Mostly Alice in Chains. Jerry sure can pump out the sledge. I became a huge fan of the Pixies and Nirvana really spoke to me in a big way at the soul level. I got to cover so many great 90s songs. A lot of the bands around my area who covered grunge tunes were always looking for a metal guitar player. It was a lot of fun and I picked up a few Fenders and Gibsons along the way that I will not selll.
Hi , Im going to say Thank you!!!! I’m 44 now , I always wanted to play guitar, I’m big fun of all kind of metal music , I start so many time and give up, but I had not really good teachers, face to face, but here on that video it’s so simple, English it’s not my first language, I’m Polish , but I understand you more than anyone else ! Thank you So much for your hard work here to help people like me , , Thank you Jason
Awesome to hear this and thank you 🙏🏻🤘
I've just gotten back on the axe after 5 or so years after my wife and kids got me a real nice fender, played in bands everything for 12 years before that
This guy is legit
Great pick up old habits and deffentaly picked up new ones keep it alive brother and thank you 🤜🤛
Awesome to hear that and thank you! Keep pushing forward!
This is one of the best guitar lessons I've ever found on youtube. I loved the bit about always playing in your own style, even as a beginner
Thank you brother! Speaking of that, I just released a new beginners course for metal guitar if you’re interested: metalmastermind.com/metal-guitar-apprentice/
I'm transitioning from acustic to electric. Thank you for your shared knowledge
That's awesome, but make sure you continue playing acoustic as well!
I think you are an amazing and thoughtful teacher. I've been hanging with you all day.
-Brian
Dude, thank you! 🙏
I just wanted to say thank you I played rhythm all throughout the 80s played in bands I thought I would never learn lead. Iam finally starting to get it I really like the way you teach. Thanks again
Awesome to hear this and glad this video helped! Also, I just released a shred video a few minutes ago
Thing is, when I first started out back in 2015, I just went directly to fingericking techniques. Now in 2021, I'm getting started with the plectrum because I really really want to play metal.
TY for making such important videos for a noob like me, Jason Sir!
Dude, you're welcome!! Really glad this helped!
FINALLY someone who is able to explain simply but also slow down techniques and show how it’s done Thankyou Jason I’ve been playing for some time and have been wondering for a long time how a galloping triplet was done Due to it’s sound I figured it was more complicated than it actually is In an older video you put my mind to rest I rarely subscribe to guitar players because I find most are brilliant players but can’t really explain what they are doing So in saying that you definitely have my subscription
Awesome to hear that and thank you for the sub!! Also, if you don’t have it already, be sure to get my free practice guide that I give to all my subs here: www.jasonstallworth.com/guitarist/
Nice advise! That's the best learner lead video I've seen. I'm 47 and played since I was 11. Always just wrote riffs and know the blues scales but this is a nice intro to metal lead. Thanks, bud!
🤘🤘🙏
I really appreciate your approach to teaching. Emphasis on technique over speed, building good habits, and making sure that we all build our own style 👍
Thank you and glad this video helped!
I’ve only watched half this video so far and it’s the best explained beginners guide I’ve seen!!
🙏🤘
54 seconds in Dude You are a Freaking Mad Man. I've been around Mike Gross, Mark Day, George Lynch and a few others and You are the BEST. Your attitude and style will lead millions I'll get the Word out on You Jason Stallworth. I'll be sticking around for a while ok back to the video
Dude, I really appreciate that!
11:23 Once I learned that small bit of advice, my playing and joy of playing hit new limits.
That's encouraging to hear that! 🤘
You Sir totally show great sincerity when you speak of making it your own . You truly are genuine in wanting to help others become the musician they are seeking to become . Hell of a job !
🙏 🤘
amazing video. Ive played since im 10 ( im 35) but have always been rhythm and now I'm trying to learn lead and solos. thank you

ThanX brother. I recently found your page & it hits dead center. Right on time with what I want & need to do. Learn some leads. After years and years being in a rhythm rut, admittedly loving much of it, rhythm playing is a lot of fun. I'd love to be able to find myself and express it with my music. Up until now, much of it just did not click. I am self taught, and I just I the last 2 years picked up guitar again after a 20 year hiatus while I was being dad. Gotta say, the modern era of learning is WAY better than when I started in the 80s reading tab.
Anyways, I just wanted to say thanX for taking the time to share some insights with us guitar prospectors.
Gonna share your page with my group of all beginner players.
Thank you for sharing and really glad this helped! Yeah, the modern way of learning is definitely much better!
This is a course all in its own. I could spend a month just watching this every night. Great stuff Jason!
Thank you brother! And thanks for the all the support you’ve given me and this channel!
@@jasonstallworth No problem. I get excited and want to support all I can someone who puts there heart into following there passion full time. Thank you for putting out a high quality product that's helping all of us!!
10x Jason. You are great. I love your attitude, and you're direct and very practical approach. I' recommend every guitar player to watch your videos. Many thanks, long may you ride

I'm 2 years in, feel stuck , yr video pulls me right back on track.
What's yr background, cause in my opinion you're the best.

Thank you for the great videos Jason! You describe things so well that it makes it easy to follow.
🙏🤘
Great stuff Jason... you are a gentleman and one cool cat!! ✌️💜👍🙋🏻♂️🎸
🙏 🤘
Totally agree with the alternate picking. I could only downstrokes for a long time and the transistion of learning AP was quite difficult.
🤘
Wow...dude you have made my week with this video!
Dude, great to hear that and I'll be doing a lead module for Metal Riff Master soon!
Hey Jason, nevermind, I found where I needed to be for your different modules, thanks
🙏 🤘
I wish i had this video like 6 years ago or so, my guitar skills would have been way better and different, still very very useful and well explained, I love your passion, it makes it much easier for me to concentrate on what you're trying to teach us.
Thank you! I also have a lead course that will be releasing early 2023
@@jasonstallworth really looking forward to it!! Thank you!
I'm so glad you chose this topic, Jason. While tone comes 98% from the players fingers, the personality and signature sound comes from the embellishments like slide, vibrato and ultimately the bends. One will always recognize a hero's signature from these traits. Randy Rhodes, Zakk Wylde, Steve Vai, Satriani, and my personal favorite, Carlos Santana. Great topic, brother.
Dude, I'm so glad this was helpful! Yeah, so much goes into your personal style and that's where our focus should be!
If tone was 98% from the fingers there would be no market for different amps, pedals and pickups.
Great lesson dude. Giving me inspiration for how I can teach.
Thank you, brother! Yeah, I like to try to simplify things. Too many teachers focus on showing off and wanting their students to see how amazing they are. But teaching isn't about you - it's about what works and resonates with your students
Thanks Jason first video of yours I have seen and I subscribed straight away find your teaching top notch.
Awesome man and thank you for the support! And if you don't have it yet, grab my free practice guide (video and tabs): www.jasonstallworth.com/guitarist/

Awesome I'm glad to hear that!
I also have a beginner's metal guitar course that may help you even further here: metalmastermind.com/metal-guitar-apprentice/
I really like the fact you stress developing your own style so much! While I manage to get the hang of favourite riffs, I hardly can do the more intricate or fast leads and kind of gave up on lead. But your video made me realise I should find what fits me in lead as I have done for rythm playing! I like mellow melodic licks but also aggressive riffs. Marrying those styles without sounding cheesy is a challenge 😂
Man, developing your own style (to me) is the most important thing you can do as a musician! 🤘
Legato playing is what got my soloing abilities up where I had wanted as well as 3nps runs .
🤘
Good lesson mentally and I didn’t know same notes just up and down sound as good as they did 🤘horns in the air

Your a Great Teacher!

I’ve definitely considered myself to be a rhythm player. These lessons are very useful and just the right pace. I know that with consistent practice I can become a great lead player too! Also I dig your pizza shirt. I gotta get myself one ✌️

@@jasonstallworth dude I'd love to get some tabs or a DVD..I get so much spam on my email I lose it..yea some of those alternate picks running the fretboard I'd love to have in my toolbox..I do like the style of shredding but also the emphasis on the songs ya play..makes big difference on how others hear ya..ints not about running the fretboard..it's about what's needed for the song

By the way, I bought your Masterpeace CD. Is awesome. Love it.
Dude, you're welcome and glad this helped! And man, thank you so much for supporting my music! That means a lot!
@@jasonstallworth Although I can't solo (yet) I love the way you mix melodic solos with shredding. Personally, I like melodic solos better. But the way you mix them is beautiful.
@@joshuasanchez7270 if I had to choose one, it would always be melodic. Constant shred gets boring after about 20 seconds and everyone is playing the same sweep arpeggios these days!
Awesome vid Jason. Thanks !! I see the old pickups are back :)
Yeah I switched these back after about a month!!
@@jasonstallworth i still have my stock air norton, true velvet and tone zone in my Prestige. but those v7/8 sound awesome.

@@jasonstallworth I play for almost 2 years now
Well, that was fun!
Great to hear that dude!
@@jasonstallworth Ever since I was in the 8th grade and heard AC/DC for the first time, and shorty after that the mighty Van Halen - I've always dreamed of making those sounds come out of a guitar... but as one of those "can't dance, can't sing, can't tap my foot to the beat" kind of guys - never thought it would be possible. But, lessons like this one - after mastering them - make me feel like I am EVH himself!!! So dang fun. I really appreciate what you do Mr. Jason, and I love your positive vibe and "you do you" mantra... just what I need, cause I sure as heck can't do anyone else!
@@ramaynard77 Man, that's what it's all about...bringing out the best version of yourself and allowing that to come through your playing! It's true freedom!

Great video lesson. Thank you. Can you recommend where I can get good backing tracks to play along with ?
I actually include 160 backing tracks and 80 riffs (more are coming) in my metal guitar course. You can read about it and see if it's for you here: metalmastermind.com/metal-riff-master/
Great thanks
Hey Jason do you have more lessons like this one for beginner lead that comes after this one
Just saw your other comment!
I am playing faster at alternate picking, and I can do it pretty fast on all 5 strings quite well, but I find alternating picking on the thin E string harder. Especially as I keep hittng my volume control. I very often play in Em, but Dm is only 2 frets up. I try to playing in different keys, but I get lost in other keys, even though I know the shapes
Yeah that can be tough because it's a longer reach
what 'bout sliding in (or out)., hammer ons 'n pull offs (while vibratin'), breaking strings while bending an octave... 8)
This is for beginners, so we're just covering some basics. I have plenty of tutorials on the other stuff (check my playlist for lead guitar)
@@jasonstallworth Whoaaa! That was a brief response! I was just sayin', i didn't mean no disrespect. P.S. - thanks for the "circle" lesson.

Hey Jason, do you have a designated course for just doing beginner lead lessons that come in different modules, starting from first course and so on, please let me know because that would be something I would be interested in, I play mostly rhythm metal but I want to try to expand my playing but it is hard for me, thanks brother, let me know
I'm definitely going to be creating something specific for lead playing and it will start with beginner concepts and go into intermediate stages. I'm going to be starting that soon!
@@jasonstallworth cool Jason thanks

I think I was using Positive Grid's BIAS Amp 2 but I have a complete post of my tones for amp sims and real amps here: www.jasonstallworth.com/metal-tones-virtual-and-real-amp-settings/
Thanks Jason! Love your lessons.
Im starting to learn to sweep but i can do all that other stuff. Ive been playing for 13 years, i just cant solo or write my own stuff.
I don't think it's necessary to learn how to sweep. Most guitarists that do it well overdo it. Check out my latest video I just posted today...I give some writing tips at the end.
