Detailed summary In the video, Dan delves into the concept of recovering from chronic pain and how it can be simpler than it may seem. He highlights the central idea that the brain's perception of danger plays a crucial role in the experience of chronic pain. Dan discusses the tendency for people to complicate recovery with various methods and therapies, contrasting this with his belief in a fundamental principle: recognizing that you are not intrinsically broken. Dan stresses the significance of distinguishing between perceived danger and actual harm. He points out that chronic pain often arises from the brain misinterpreting signals and triggering pain responses when there's no real threat to the body. He criticizes the overwhelming number of therapies and treatments available and suggests that addressing the core issue of perceived danger is key. He introduces the idea of teaching the brain that the perceived dangers are unfounded, which can lead to the reduction or elimination of chronic pain. Dan underscores the importance of replacing fear and misinformation with a sense of safety. He rejects the notion of chasing complex solutions and instead encourages a focus on simplicity. Dan mentions the concept of various Mind-Body approaches and the medical world's treatments, highlighting that few truly address the core problem of the brain's perception of danger. He outlines his approach: by addressing this misperception, individuals can effectively eliminate the root cause of their chronic pain. Towards the end, he touches on the idea of autoimmune and digestive issues arising from chronic stress and perceived danger. Dan emphasizes that even in these cases, addressing the core issue can lead to a positive impact on these systems. In conclusion, Dan advocates for a straightforward approach to recovery from chronic pain, centered around retraining the brain to understand that the perceived danger isn't real. By fostering a sense of safety and challenging the brain's misconceptions, individuals can achieve symptom relief and improve their overall well-being.

The subconscious brain does not factor into it overall strategies. If the brain perceives danger, the brain sounds a warning. That's it. Think of touching a hot stove. Pain is on instantly to warn us to move our hand. We yank our hand away and 9 out of 10 times, we aren't even burnt. So....why did it hurt if we weren't burnt? To warn us. What about tmj pain that comes from clenching teeth at night? The muscles are so overworked and painful. The solution would be to stop clenching but how? Totally beyond one's control.
But why are you clenching? I often see the clenching as the result of too much stress or fear. The best you can do is to expect the best and respond as calmly as possible. Teach your brain you are safe overall and it is quite possible the clenching may minimize. DansFastStart.com

This is really helpful. I’m struggling as I’ve new symptoms that are cysts in 2 body parts, Doctor says they are harmless and will pass. However, my brain is so fearful still it’s something chronic. Shall I apply the PDP techniques here to?. Very hard when there’s something physically there to convince myself it’s TMS. I’ve been doing much better teaching my brain it is with the “usual” pain.
The question is whether or not those cysts should be causing pain or are just benign growths. If there is significant pain and cysts are not supposed to hurt, the pain is from TMS/Perceived Danger. Make sense?
@@PainFreeYou thank you and yep makes sense. It only started to hurt because I’ve poked it and to be honest it’s only since I’ve found it (could have been there ages all I know) that I’ve gone into fear/panic mode telling myself a story that it’s going to cause problems etc, etc. The pain then gets worse. Dan thanks for good video, how much you are sure that the test in your website is legit and trustable? I mean how it removes the fact of structural problem?
Nothing is 100% because peoples answers are subjective based on their perceived experience. However, pain created by the brain behaves differently than structurally caused pain. Most chronic pain is a mistake by the brain and not a physical problem. The body heals. There is also a FIT assessment here that has similar questions. You will note a similarity in the questions as they are based on how symptoms behave rather than what the medical diagnosis indicates. www.PainFreeYou.com/start
Sarno's first book spoke about stress and tension as the cause. It was only in Healing back pain that he began speaking about emotions. I believe stress, tension, repressed negative emotions can all be see as dangerous by the subconscious brain. It's all under the same umbrella term of perceived danger, in my opinion.
This may not be what you are referring to but Sarno thought that the brain could reduce oxygen flow to muscles resulting in pain. I believe that Dr. Schubiner disproved that theory. Now they say that all pain is created in the brain and so the tissues that are hurting can have nothing to do with it. Which explains why the pain can shut off in an instant and/or move around.
Yes, it is common for us to become afraid hearing about other peoples symptoms and struggles. This is why MY group is instructed specifically to greatly minimize symptom talk. We focus on successes, solutions and implementation. We do our best to not have people complain about symptoms. While symptoms may get mentioned, we focus on solutions. What you can do to help yourself is make a firm decision that other peoples stories are not YOUR story and that their story does not need to make your situation worse.
This has also happened to me. Most of the time, thinking about my symptoms makes the symptoms worse. The same is also true; being in Dan's calls and watching his videos, I am reminded CONSTANTLY that it is a mindset game and not a physical one.
I have to be careful not to listen to symptoms of others. In the past I "caught" carpal tunnel and recently my pain has moved just hearing about someone else's experience.
Hey Dan, quick question about your group coaching. My primary symptoms are fatigue and anxiety rather than pain. Does the group coaching address other symptoms or does it focus on pain?
We address all symptoms. Not just pain. Everyone has different things that are ALL created by the brain perceiving danger. The solution is the same. We have a few with fatigue as their main symptom and most of the group has anxiety at varying levels of intensity. You will fit right in.
Also...the fear of everyday life...like the new smoke detector I just got that I go through the day anticipating that horrible sound...is that perceived danger?
Dan, sorry to pester you again. Do you think there is any place for modalities like TENS (PTNS in my case -- Chronic Pelvic Pain/ 'Chronic Prostatitis) or EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing or any equivalent Bilateral Sensory Stimulation) to ease the pain or will any such 'intervention', however non-invasive or innocuous, only end up sending the wrong message to the brain ( "you are still trying to fix it, so something does need fixing down there" )? And what about local heat? P.S. Sorry, I should have gone through your video in its entirety before posing the question. It's just that the flares make you desperate to seek solutions even when you are convinced there's nothing wrong with the body and it's 'all in the brain'. Thanks again.
Dr Sarno said decades ago "stop all physical treatments". His theory was that it confuses the message to the brain. We are trying to convince the brain that the body is fine. Treating the body muddies the water.
Curiosity question. I know my burning, tingly feet are TMS/PDP….and after so many diagnoses I had I truly believe it. Doing heaps more now still have symptoms but much more active. The question I want to ask is while I go through heart disease and have since birth, yesterday in hospital my sats dropped and it was all a disaster with my heart (drama Queen I am) 😊 noticed my symptoms played up and I guess it’s because I got scared of the heart issue yesterday and my brain freaked out again….is this the reason why my symptoms are still going even after a year of brain training that my brain is on high alert due to my heart conduction? I know your not a doctor but I can’t talk to doctors about this mind body as they think I’m in denial with my heart…thank you xxxx ❤❤❤
Symptoms continue when the brain is perceiving danger. Obviously with a legit heart issue, you are doing the right thing working with doctors. Regarding the TMS/Perceived danger, symptoms continue because there is still a concern in the brain. Focus on safety. This fast start will help with the non-heart issues. DansFastStart.com

An anxious mind will be on high alert and see danger in many places. 11 Examples of perceived danger. ruclips.net/video/GFF4i9BYXZ0/видео.html
@PainFreeYou THANK YOU Dan!

Didn't are Sarno say a good neurologist knows the immune system is the nervous system?
I don't recall for sure.
