Beltane Flame, Awen‘s Call

The first of three original songs and music videos filmed at the Senedd Cymru (The Welsh Parliament), Cardiff, Wales, by Awen‘s Call, the Bardic Band, to support the Anthem, Tân Y Ddraig.

BELTANE, the Fire Festival, occurs on May 1st. It's all about New Life and the full re-kindling of the year after winter and spring, maypoles, dancing, flowers and the bright greens that only appear at that time of year! In rural homes the kitchen fire which burned all year round was extinguished, and the community gathered at the Beltane blaze, carrying away burning sticks as they left, to ignite their blackened hearths from a common flame.
BARDS IN HIGH PLACES...
In times past, Bards were not just poets and musicians - they were history keepers and genealogists who knew the laws, the lore, and the legends of the land.
The best of the Bards could be found in high places - castles, royal courts and political circles - sought for their memory skills, creativity and insight, by kings and tribal leaders who used them as communicators of information. They could share this in ways ordinary people could understand - through story, poetry and song. What‘s more, their words were believed to be endued with a mysterious inspirational power called AWEN, and this belief gave the Bards even more credibility.
Today, Awen‘s Call is continuing that tradition. So it’s no surprise to find us in high places, just like our predecessors! Appropriately, this High Place is the Senedd, the Welsh Parliament, arguably the national home of the Bards, where we’ve come to record three songs to be released over June and July. And like those ancient minstrels, we fit right in…
