Truck runs like brand new after replacing this part. Went from 9lbs of boost with no exhaust brake to a full functioning turbo that will build 31lbs boost and full fast acting exhaust brake.

I watched your video. Followed your detailed instructions and I still can’t believe I installed and calibrated this Turbo Actuator. It works great. Thank you so much. Finished it in about 2 hours and I am not a mechanic.

Super helpful. I am on the road using my truck for RV transport and having actuator problems. Trying to figure out how I can resolve this problem on my own if I have to. The actuator programming was stumping me. Glad to know the app is available.

I am so glad I just Bought that obd link mx. Was just going to use it for adjusting the speedometer when tire size changes and to modify the system to allow fog lights to remain on when high beams are used. Glad to know if I ever have to re-calibrate something like this I’m good to go

@@0823Sammy going that slow I don't think you would build enough exhaust pressure to get the turbo to spool anyways. However if you notice that you can't build and boost or your boat seems to be stuck at a spot then it definitely could be that part. How many miles do you have on the truck?
do you know if it will work with Iphones or maybe a laptop coonecting with Bluetooth?

Mine just shit the bed on my 2016 while pulling my 5th wheel. Seems to be way to common of a problem now I’m stuck until I get it working again. Thanks for the video.

I have a 2014 w the same issue. I bought the one from Geno garage. The reason is that programming is not required. Also, Genos claims twice the torque that improves throttle response. I'll see after i install it. Your instruction gives me confidence I can do it in my driveway. Good job! 👍

@608trucker4 Sorry I didn't get back to you guys. The turbo actuator from Geno's garage works great. I couldn't really rell you that it improved performance. I can say it was easy to install and works great. I hope this helps.
City Diesel sells and has sold a self-calibrating actuator that fits multiple turbos. I got theirs for $900 for my 2013 Ram 3500 (HE300VG turbo) and never looked back. Bolts and seals, coolant, back on the road in 2 hours, start to finish.
Yeah I wanted the billet one but it was out of stock for 4 months when mine went out
First great video, very helpful. In the install instructions on Genos Garage it states "It does not matter what position the turbo vane gear is in because the actuator self-calibrates during each start cycle." So is AlphaOBD step really needed, I dont see how it would hurt regardless I guess.
It was my understanding that if you buy the aftermarket one from Geno Garage that it is self calibrating however the factory one is not. When i went to buy mine, Geno Garage was out of stock with theirs so I went with a factory replacement. Thanks for watching.
@@offroadicon cool! I missed the part that ypu got the factory unit. Totally makes sense that you had to set it. Awesome we can do this with Alpha.
If your actuator is “going away” the turbo ain’t far behind. Check out the Bd screamer vgt or Fleece cheetah vgt. Either are drop in replacements that work with your factory engine brake. No additional anything.

I know that alpha OBD has that year as an option but I am not sure since I don't have that year.
what kind of issues were you having in the four weeks before the new part? I have had turbo/turbo actuator issues for the last year and a half.. gone atleast 25,000-30,000 miles with them. My issues only occur on the first drive of each day and usually anytime it sits for a few hours and cools back down.
… but anyways within the first 10 to 15 minutes of my morning or evening commute the exhaust brake usually stopped working and then sometimes then not much boost/power in the lower to mid rpms.. like the actuator was stuck… check engine lights was almost always on. But if I shut my truck off when those issues happen, say turn it and on and drive 10mins later, an hour later. It would run flawlessly the rest of the day no matter how far I went. I could go seven hours on a trip, run around town shopping, and not one issues with boost or exhaust brake. So weird that it works for hundreds of miles on a weekend I am using it a lot during a day. This has made me not fix it yet because the thing will work great still depending on what I do during the day
I wasn't having issues. Mine went from working to not working. I have read that some people have the same problem you are having and they say it's better to just fix it before it does more damage to the turbo itself.
Why didn't you just replace the VGT turbo with a regular turbo and a new exhaust manifold? It's only a few hundred more than an actuator.
To be honest at the time I didn't know what direction I wanted to go and didn't know how much more it would cost. It was already bad timing to fix it and I was trying to be as low cost as possible. I am however looking into that as a future upgrade.
I’m gonna replace the actuator too so what aftermarket turbo should I get and why do you need a new manifold? Thx in advance
Wouldn't the actuator help with exhaust braking?

Great video, how much coolant did you have to add back in?
I think I put in two gallons. I know that I had to add more after a couple of months with the system burping out the air pockets.

Ok mines still builds boost and runs fine the CEL is on and the codes I’ve got are P003A and P00AF the only thing not working is my exhaust brake. I’ve checked the fins in the turbo and they spin freely no slack
I am no mechanic but i would think that the exhaust brake is not working because the turbo actuator is not getting the nozzle ring into the correct position. It could be a issue that actuator is not working correctly, or maybe it just needs to be recalibrated, or maybe the nozzle ring is to dirty to allow it to travel to the correct position. Hope that helps.

What phone app and wireless OBD connections did you use to do the calibration?
I use Alpha OBD to connect to the vehicle and the MX bluetooth adapter on the OBD connection port.
So do I need an OBD scanner to program my actuator? Or what do I do if I don’t have a scanner.
From my understanding there are three options.
1.Buy the one from Geno Garage that is self programming
2. Use Alpha OBD with a bluetooth OBD connector.
3. Go to the dealership.
From the forums i have read they say if your using a stock Mopar actuator it must be programmed. I wanted to get the one from Geno's garage however it was out of stock and on back order for 3month when I looked. I needed my truck so I ordered another stock one.
Did you have fluctuating psi on boost on the interstate at all with the cruise set? Mann will drop down to 10 psi and then go up to 20 about every three seconds
No I could only build 14 psi and it took a while to do that. My actuator was partially stuck open.
@@offroadicon Yeah mine is building up to you 28 psi and then dropping down to 10 while under the same load it’s like the turbo is cycling
Do the gear supposed to move in the actuator or just hear it running
When you program it you can hear the gears move the blades open an closed. It's supposed to find the 0 points so that they are not exceeded.

How many gallons of coolant did you use to fill it again?
If i remember correctly it was around 2 gallons is what i purchased.
Were did you get your accuater
I actually got mine from Amazon. I wanted to get aftermarket bone that was made from billet but it was on back order
Does the obd plug connect to the app?
you have to buy the MX obd bluetooth adapter to put in the plug. Then connect to that adapter via bluetooth from laptop or android device to use the app.
Did you have to buy any apps with the Alfa obd reader
Alpha OBD is the app. The MX obd scanner did not require anything but the purchase of the unit. I did however need to get a mopar pin puller app from the play store to change some other settings but none of those pertained to this video.

Well if I needed a long bed I would have purchased a 3500 dually but I don't tow a fifth wheel or a goose neck. Also it fits my needs and I don't pay the extra taxes for the weight and less cost for tires. But to me a half truck are those 1500s or less with a 4' bed. However as long as they are happy then who cares. Thanks for watching
Have you have any problems with this one you bought off of Amazon? Im a little uneasy buying car parts off Amazon but ill be saving a couple hundred dollars
Thankfully I have not had any issues. I understand the concern as there are a lot of bad products out there. It has been working since I replaced the part
Geno's garage sells one that doesn't need any programing.
That is true however I ordered the factory one that did require the reprogramming. I have no experience with the one from Geno's garage.

What code/ codes’s where you getting?
I believe the codes were a P003A,a P00AF, and a U010C. I remember reading lots about the codes and seeing that most people said the dealer would replace the whole turbo which comes with the actuator but most said to give the actuator a shot by itself as they have a common issue with going out. I wanted to buy the billet one from diesel city but it would take to long to come in. The real way to tell is by taking the actuator off and seeing if the veins are easy to open and close at the lever. If it doesn't move very easily than it's the turbo and not just the actuator.
@@offroadicon those are the same codes that came up on mine. The only active one was the P003a. Also trying to go with the city diesel one but it’s out 3-4 weeks and I might just order the one you bought as well
@@io4067 best of luck. Just make sure you don't get the new one wet and also that you do the pre calibration. Yeah I couldn't wait that long without the truck and driving it in that condition is not a good idea.

@@io4067 yeah I think I was getting 14lbs. But right after got that whole 32. Now I run exhaust break on all the time .

Tires have worked fine for me with no issues. Not as sticky as my sticky as my cooper STT pro but work just fine.
