I can understand being self-conscious about trying out new types of videos, but I enjoy these types of videos and I don't even need or want a new keyboard. You have a great sense of humor that's a pleasure to listen to and watch. Cheers
As a self-proclaimed keyboard snob (unironically have come full circle using unlubed cherry blacks on a PP plate in a top-mount TKL), I definitely think the wooting PCB is currently the best option, because there are so many GH60-compatible cases that can fit the PCB just fine, between the Tofu cases, Geon's Frog Mini, Mekanisk's Klippe T and Fjell, there's a good host of options of cases that can improve a lot of aspects. HE Switches by Geon are also goated, from the earliest HE Raptors (which are much better if you swap the stem to the lekker stem) to the most recent RAW HE switches. Combine that with a CF plate with your order of a tofu case or get a custom CNC aluminum plate and do an o-ring gasket mount, and I'm very satisfied with what it is for an HE keyboard. The alphas are a bit thin but overall there's a pretty good sound profile coming from it, and I'm surprised to hear you say that you don't like the feel because I quite like it. Between lekkers and Raptors (and the frankenswitch in between) I didn't really notice much of an issue with feel. You are using HMX Macchiatos which are a long pole switch, so they are drastically different because HE switches bottom out on the stem rails but from what I've experienced, not mushy, maybe a little too slick from how heavy-handed the Raptors are stock lubed, but not too bad that I can complain about it. I do agree though that compatibility of HE switches is in a very silly state. You have two types of Gateron HE switches, one with no center pole and one with a center pole, and another one Wuque Studios uses on their Boog75 PCB, so there's already basically no standard as soon as the niche pops up. I can't really say that I am certain on which one I want to win the fight for standardization, but I know it's not easy right now versus mechanical all sharing the same MX footprint since the end of the 70's. Also, 60% is totally usable for every-day use, a bakeneko60 is in my rotation for daily drivers in the medical field as a concierge. Make good use of the function layer, function under caps is a game changer for accessing arrows (i put them on WASD), f-row and nav cluster.
I'm one of the weirdos who actually likes the feel of the Q1 HE keys. I swapped them to the 30g versions, but still. I had to do a bunch of dampening things to the spacebar so it wouldn't drive me nuts. I have the Gateron Jade switches on my Wooting. I'm a lousy gamer, but I do notice and feel the difference when I play. I have other keyboards for other things. Yeah, I'm one of those people... but I do find myself using my Q1 HE more than just about anything else, including writing for several hours every day, with the exception of a tactile board I prefer a bit for how it sounds and the slightly better accuracy I get from tactiles. I think, even with Jades in my Wooting, I like the sound of the Q1 HE much more. Plus, I prefer wireless in my office. Oh, and for the Keychron abysmal spacebars, either add some blue tak + auto dampening foam or just buy a Nuphy Ghostbar. The stock Keychron spacebar sounds like it belongs in a $10 keyboard.
Hey, how often do you charge the q1 he? Someone told me you get only 10 hours without rgb, but it doesn't seem right. Especially since they advertise 100.
On serious note, I have been tempted to get a new keyboard lately, so this was good video to be aware of. I’m still waiting on a decent fast and stealthy one, but I’m ok with the one I got now since I have a usb switcher for my 2 pc setup. Also 8:41 what headphones are those?
finally an honest review not the wooting boot apologists. HE switches just feel like crap and a few others have said this as well. With CS banning snappy tappy, or whatever you want to label it, rapid trigger is the only thing left. As you said, it will really not change much in game. Wooting charges waaaay too much for their board and it's not really a gasket mount board. Very stiff as well.
It's personal preference. Wooting definitely are the best HE keyboards on the market right now and they don't sound or feel bad to type on if you're using them for gaming and comparing them to 'gaming' keyboards that are on the market for around the same price if not more expensive than the 60he. Of course a custom keyboard that's purposely been built to your own taste will likely sound and feel better but for a gaming keyboard, it's actually a huge upgrade. The actuation adjustment isn't even the biggest feature of the board in my opinion. It's the almost zero latency that I can feel before anything else This an honest review of the Keychron Q1 and a statement about HE keyboards not being necessary for mid gamers. But beyond that, HE keyboards are likely going to be the future for gaming keyboards
I like the video. I had been debating the rapid trigger kb but I had my doubts on wanting to spend the money. I think I will wait and see what happens next year with them. Thanks
Thanks for the info on these, I've been wondering what all the hype was, but hadn't gotten around to researching yet. I unfortunately had a few drinks and shared one of them with my K95 Platinum (first ever mechanical), and am now back to using a Logitech G512. I've been waiting for 8Bitdo to release a SNES-style custom keyboard, but as a programmer, I also prefer my full size with a numpad, not as a separate device, so I feel I can't ever have my cake and eat it too.
So what you sugest for someone that only plays world of warcraft , type and wants the best typing and SILENT keyboard ? Media keys and 100% or TLK , i was about the buy the new g915 x from logitech but im open to sugestions.
thats a good thing to know, that they feel so diffrent. on the images it always looks like they are very similar to mechanical. also.. no you are not a looser, you are a great guy! 👍
As nutty said in the video and tying it back to streaming, there's a plethora of things you can get to improve your stream before investing over 200 bucks into a keyboard. Like f.e. a Facecam and some cheap lights, or a new Mic. If you can afford a keyboard easily, go for it. But as a professional stream lurker in all type of genres, i can guarantee you, almost nobody cares about your keyboard except nerds like nutty.
Great video. Told me what I needed to know. I have been considering a new keyboard - mostly because I've decided to kick Corsair iCue in the balls. 75% or 80% is where I'm looking because only a couple games I regularly play need a bunch of keys and I could eliminate that a couple ways - one of those being switching out my wheel and pedals for the Hori truck sim one (Yeah I'm one of those.). Wireless would be a bonus. As for the typing feel, I do most of my typing on my Mac and that's got an older Magic Keyboard (Lightning connector one) so... on my windows computer typing is an "only sometimes" sitch.
I disagree with your take that HE switches feel mushy to type on. I actually think that they can never be mushy because they have way less contact, therefore almost no friction. Technically, smoother, but I personally don't want to use that term because it's more airy than smooth. But having said that, it makes it actually very unsatisfying to type on. While most content creators might disagree with you that all HE switches suck to type on, I actually agree with you on this one. They don't have the same feel as mechanical switches have because of their design and I don't think they can ever be because of how they're constructed.
Rapid Trigger and adjustable activation points are not just about performance but also comfort. Sure, it might not be a night and day difference but even single player only gamers can benefit from this technology. A few hundred is not an outrageous price for something you use more than almost anything else and will last for at least a decade.
I already go through this w/my fightsticks. I'm not doing this w/my keyboards too lol. they do sound nice, conceptually, admittedly, but I'm a steam controller girly~. that being said, maybe when they drop a bit ( a lot lol) I'll look into it, but I need a whole ass keyboard w/a numpad and stuff before I'll even consider it. the per key sensitivity settings is definitely the most interesting feature of the hall effect keys, to me.
TY! This convinced me not to get an HE keyboard. I'll wait until they come further along. They clearly need to be more standardized. And I prefer a closer to full size keyboard. I find it hard to type on small keyboards.
I'm kinda the opposite. I do most of my typing on my Mac Magic Keyboard and that thing is not only TKL but ultra flat and light. Typing on the Corsair K70 I have on my Game computer (MX speed switches) feels weird.
personally, atleast for now im gonna stick to a standard mech since im an entusiast and have 5 boards that in total, cost 3k. The board that i use the most out of them is my Maker velvet in plateless top mount, with broken in mx blacks, and gmk botanical 2
I actually think HE switches feel MUCH better than mechanical switches. And I've only tried Lekker L60s, which are not good HE switches. Now I've ordered Jade Maxes, can't wait to try try them.
@@Bobaboy17 Yeah, I have fully customized Keychron Q1 with lubed Gateron Black Ink V2 switches, I've tried other switches as well, but they were my favourite mechanical switches. I've never had a "gamer" keyboard.
@@ekortelainen oh i was just surprised since everyone i have ever heard from says enthusiast switches are way better than he keyboards, but i suppose they aren't as bad as i have heard.
@@Bobaboy17 It's just up to personal preferences. I like how smooth HE switches feel. Sure there is a lot of wobble with Lekker switches, but I'm hoping that the Jades will fix that.
I have no idea who this optimum tech person is, this is the first video I've watched about this. Maybe I'm the minority, but not everyone has seen this channel you referenced twice. 😂
HE keyboards really have interest/benefits for a very few games, so yeah not everyone need one, it's all marketing, the wooting is the only one offering the best software and 4 years guaranty, the HE distance actuation offer some typing comfort for everyone else no matter what brand you choose, but the sound of magnetic switches is very ugly ( to me ) and will choose mechanical 95% of time.
Thank you for this. I'm not a pvp player, and it doesn't look like I'd gain anything from them, especially as I do use it to write, and I won't get a tiny kb lol I need my numpad! :p
I felt like this review was made after the influx and hype of the wooting 80HE released. Its like watching Nokia's press conference trying to down play smart phone with their 3310 phone but I digress. HE is marketed towards competitive gamer. It looks nice and the Lekker60 v2s are so thocky… but when it’s all added up it’s CA$400. I can get the Monsgeek M1 v3 and replace with Akko Rosewood switches for less than half and hear the rain as I type, instead. And then buy the Endgame OP1 8k mouse and a pro mousepad and still have money left over.
