Mine goes out sometimes when I hit a bump. Most of the time it reappears eventually, but I think my problems are internal. Garmin still bings when I have a light bridge or something but no display.

It still turns on black. This happens when you turn the night mode too low. Lesson learned. Followed his instructions, took a couple tries and some screen mashing on the final phase to get it to turn on.
