    Shout out to Tina, who I hated in Season 1 but who bossed the fuck up for Season 2. When she unsheathed Carm's knife and was all LFG I cheered for her and when Carm let her keep it I shed a little tear.

    You’ve got Donna all wrong. She’s an alcoholic with narcissist behavior. She plays the victim. What does she have to be a victim about? All her kids showed up for Christmas. Carmy and Michael would have made everything if she’d let them. Sugar is overly concerned for her, taking on the role of the parent. Then she loses it at the table and ruins dinner for everyone by driving her car through the house. She doesn’t stick up for Michael with Lee. He’s the designated black sheep. Kind and a loving brother but not gifted like golden boy Carmy. That makes Sug the neglected child. This is the classic, textbook family dynamics when a person with narcissistic tendencies is the parent. This is what narcissistic parents do during holidays and vacations. They crave being the center of attention. They require that everyone forget their own problems and concentrate only on them.
    The only bright spot I see for her is that something must have finally gotten through her facade and made her realize she was causing real harm. I’m guessing it was Michael’s suicide. The best decision she ever made was to not go into that restaurant on Carmy and Sug’s big night. For once she made it not all about her. Better late than never, I guess. Let’s see how long it lasts.

      I wouldn't really classify Mike as a black sheep tbh. Nor Carmy as the golden child. It is an unhealthy dynamic but I don't think one gets more praise than the other, mostly both of them have to deal with different kinds of bullshit from Donna. Carmy doesn't get a compliment for being in Copenhagen, he gets shamed for not being around, it's always backhanded. Sugar is definitely a neglected child, though, being the only girl contributes to that. She feels the need to care more for her and gets more shit from Donna for it as a punishment. But yeah, toxic all around.

    While Sydney is impatient, I also think she isn’t trusting.
    I do find it interesting that, at times, the writers have her in the exact same situation that Carmy is in. I only noticed this upon rewatching. When she reacts the same way Carmy does, the audience response usually classes her as unreasonable or annoying. Very interesting with the writers.

    Disagree on use of flashbacks. By seeing Mikey in the Fishes episode it reaffirms that Carmy has a blindspot. He claims that he never knew Mikey was in drugs and like Richie I too am saying "How did you not?" "Uncle" Lee brought it up at dinner for goodness sakes. Carmy chose to see Mikey the way he wanted to see him..

    I would've been on board with the Claire storyline if they took the time to actually establish their chemistry and their history, they just sort of mushed them together and then after the fact, let us know that she's his long time crush. but it's my one gripe about the season, so i'd say we're lucky to have such a superb show for us to binge and enjoy (or recover from, depending on the episode)

    • @mbealhighjump
      @mbealhighjump 11 месяцев назад +7

      That’s the point. Claire represents the point in life when people are what I to call “Vitamin Dating.” She’s a candidate that supplies all the essential nutrients and you know on paper they’re good for you, but it doesn’t change the fact that there’s no spark. Carmy’s family and friends continually tell him how great she is and allude to how they’ve always hoped they’d be together, but no matter how great she is she doesn’t ignite the passion in him that he feels in cooking.
      There’s also the realization of why Carmy is the was he is. His mother is made out to be crazy this entire season, but you realize similarly Carmy cannot allow himself to enjoy a good thing. That’s why it triggers him so deeply for Richie to call him his mother’s name in the final episode.
      Claire is productive, supportive, and understand and those qualities should universal but Carmy isn’t in a place to accept those qualities yet.

    Late comment on Sydney and Marcus. 🤚🏾 Sydney's hesitancy towards Marcus was due to their different social classes. She always considered him a friend and nothing more. Unfortunately, Marcus misread their growing friendship and assumed she had romantic feelings towards him. It's heartbreaking to see this happen, but I appreciate the way the storyline was handled. It felt very accurate and relatable, as I've been in similar situations before.
    Marcus tried to dip out of the friend-zone and Syd said 🚫.

    To me a cameo is about how much screen time the person has not how famous they are. JLC is not a cameo because she has more than once scene and she is going to be in that role going forward. Cameo makes me think of like how super hero movies that have an actor show up for a few seconds for a surprise.

    Thoroughly enjoyed Season 2, especially the cameo by Jamie Lee. She had that Midwestern postmenopausal rage that I know too well from my own mother. Jamie driving the car into the living room reminds me of the time my mother threw ALL of the dishes in the house away because no one had washed the ones in the sink by the time she got home from work. 😳

    If you want to try a Michelin star restaurant in ny go to cote. The level of service definitely feels more extreme and it’s a Korean steakhouse so even the Omakase won’t be too crazy for an “unrefined palate”.

      @@HorseJoint same here. I see on different platforms that people think she's just a narcissist or they're calling her a crazy drunk. I believe it's so much more than that. It feels more like she has some undiagnosed mental illness. Maybe she is bipolar or has borderline personality disorder. IDK, but the way Jamie played it, said more then a drunk woman having a fit. And yeah, the Oscar should have went to anyone else in that category. I too don't remember her character's name in the movie, and I just saw it recently haha

    Do NOT get a Cuban sandwich instead of an Italian beef. There is literally no comparison except that they are both sandwiches which contain meat and involve the use of bread.

    Good season but not better than the first.
    The Claire plot line was contrived and unnecessary. Same thing with Carmy being locked in the fridge and Claire hearing him at the end.
    Also the family dinner episode was overrated and did nothing to add to the story

    • @jmank2001
      @jmank2001 11 месяцев назад +12

      While I do agree with your first point about Claire, they could've removed her from the show and I don't think anyone would have really cared. I think the family dinner episode added a lot to the overall story seeing more of Michael (Though I do love John Bernthal as an actor), as well as truthfully showed the chaos of some families during the holidays with so many clashing personalities.

    I’m surprised you two praised this show as much as you did. I thought it was completely melodramatic and full of plot contrivances. Character development was so surface level and the dialogue was laughable at many points. Played into so many tropes and full of tortured metaphors.
