I love how ghouls have the derogatory term “smooth skin” for unradiated humans in the game but his skin looks surprisingly smooth in all the trailers 😂. Idk just a small little detail I’m hung up on.

Literally every other ghoul in the show has very wet mushy looking rot on their face so it was probably a contractual thing from Goggins, either way his makeup isn't terrible and I'm sure it would have been a pain in the ass as a main character in the show to have to put the more elaborate stuff on for the whole 4ish hours of video he's in.
The dog is CX404 (not Dogmeat from Boston) which indicates she's a project from that mad scientist we've seen in the trailers.

There are many dogs throughout fallout referred to as Dogmeat. The dog's name is CX404 but she is called dogmeat several times during the show.

I'll just come out and say: it's a complete oversight you weren't sent to the preview and early access. I've seen _so_ many reviews and impressions from small channels (that's knock a knock on small channels, but they _are_ small) that aren't nearly as connecting to the franchise.
Why is it an oversight?
@@RDR911 Matty's a sizeable channel at over 500k subs, he started out as a fallout channel and has continued to cover the franchise regularly, and has actually met many of Bethesda peeps. I'm seeing reviews coming from general movie RUclipsrs with like 5k subs or less. And again, not knocking the smaller channels, it's just really surprising.
He's too critical, he's demonstrated too much negativity and that doesn't make for a good corpo propaganda outlet

Matty always throws a tantrum when he doesn’t get early access or some sort of behind the scenes knowledge or say, there’s been multiple times I’ve seen him complaining about stuff like this. If it was up to me I wouldn’t give him a say, or anymore access than the general public either. He’s very entitled. Like the videos tho lol.

Why would you expect that
I figured this had one of the best chances to be really good, not being tied to a particular story was a massive plus for translating FO to another format. I'm very glad they seem to making full use of multiple perspectives something film and TV does much better than video games. I'm little surprised at how high the RT score is I thought it would be closer to 80% not over 90% because of the ultra-violence, odd retro-futuristic post-apocalyptic setting and Nolan's love of complex storytelling any one of which could be a turn off for some people.
Why are people forgetting the success of Netflix’s CastleVania, the go to is Arcane. As good as that is, I thought Castlevania was great. I’m glad fallout is getting good reviews.
As an OG Castlevania player. The Netflix one shat on the Lore so much it madr me wanna commit toaster in bath
People don't mention the sonic movies as much either. I think Arcane just had more prestige given its unique artstyle and more emotionally driven story

There's an insane disconnect between critics and regular fans. I think it's very misleading to declare the show as "great" based off of critic reviews... So many examples of critics overhyping something that fans end up disliking, and vice versa.
So ready for it to be bad. Just wait for the show.

Yup. Many critics are personally invited by show runners on pre-release meetings and basically corrupted by them, thus early reviews are often way overhyped. Not to mentioned art of critical, professional and deep review is rare nowadays.

They could handle some things better, but all in all great show, better than expected. I like the Easter egg: "A man and his dog". Great touch.

The part about an anti capitalism message worries me. Fallout is satire but it isn't actually anti.

@@aersla1731 well I gave up on them getting any of the lore accurate. Hollywood doesn't like lore anymore. As long as it's not mangled beyond recognition it will be better than most adaptations.
@@markcarpenter6020 I mean it may not be anti but it's certainly more than just satire as you suggest. Factions like the Enclave are clear examples of this, and there's tons of commentary all throughout fallout games

The vim company is seen to be relatively upright and under assault of the larger Nika cola. And the enclave have almost nothing to do with capitalism they are mostly government deep state people. Any corps they are closely connected to were ones taken over by the government.

No, it's written by the brother of the writer of those films... and his wife. And he only directed the first three episodes.

And he was responsible for some of the most iconic lines such as the one about dying a hero or becoming a villain.

Checking again and it seems he didn't even write it, he just directed. The writers are Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner.

What if the reviewers weren’t saying anything about the NCR because they were trying to avoid major spoilers for the show.
After having introduced Power armors, Ghouls and Enclave in the first hour of the show, I don't see them concerend with spoling a good universe.

Just finished first episode and holy PEP BOY!! This series is about to be binged all year. I’m beyond happy with what I just witnessed as an opener. Much needed backstory on life before the explosions. The character introductions too 👏🏼🙏🏼

They appear to have de-canonized New Vegas. Shady Sands in this show was destroyed “before” the events of New Vegas which is not possible unless Bethesda tossed the Obsidian lore.
As much as I enjoyed the show, I'm sad they did that, (Fall of shady sands 2277, Fallout NV 2281) I hope Bethesda isn't going the route of forcing all of NV into an alternate timeline or something because they are jelly its so loved by fans.
Even though it gets rid of player choice from the dlc, I would have preferred if it was the nukes from the long divide that caused the destruction of shady sands. I have a strong feeling that a season 2 would have house as leader of NV with no word of the courier at all. But I suppose its like Jonathan Nolan said, can't satisfy everyone.

@@imjusthere9006 I would settle for that though I doubt Bethesda will be gracious enough to give it to us. They hate Obsidian for making New Vegas which even still to this day is better story wise than any fallout game they made. This “retcon” was Todd and his team acting like children.
The Supermutant/master timeline wouldve been sick! The lore is there, all they had to do was adapt it.

I feel like most things, it'll have strong hook on the first 2 or 3 episodes. Then quickly spiral downward. Most of the shills will praise it strongly early on, but once then novelty wears off the fridge horror sets in.
Rings of Power was hated by most fans, it has a 38 audience rating on RT with over 25,000 reviews, I didn't even watch it it looked so bad, been loving Fallout though

The Last Of US, Twisted Metal, Super Mario, Sonic The Hedgehog, Castlevania, Arcane, Gangs of London,Fallout, Detective Pickachu and so on and all of these just in the last 5 years, i would say the future of game adaptations is going very well :)
I cannot wait to see this now. The fact they actually included a little of my favorite part of the games, the exploration and uncovering of the monstrous shit that these vault tech folk did with the folk in these eerie empty/filled with monsters vaults. I wasnt sure if theyd include that aspect, and hearing theres a whole side plotline that gets all spooky and it show the downfall of the vault has me a little hyped. Still keeping my expectations in check, but it does give me a lil hope they did shit right with these reviews.
That’s a massive aspect, seeing so much pre war to me is amazing. Especially Vault Tec meetings.
Vault doors open in about an hour, looking forward to seeing if this lives up to the reviews and the hype. I really hope so, I've been along for the ride since Fallout 3 (no disrespect to the old classics of 1 and 2, I just never had that kind of rig).
IGN don't care about games and hate gamers, so I can care less what they think about this show. I almost feel like they will like what they think we won't like

It's not a video game adaptation.
Its a story set in the same world the video games take place, in order to be a proepr adaptation the story would have to reflect that.
Its a video game universe adaptation, so I am pretty comfortable with people calling it video game adaptation

I am shocked about the state of the NCR. The show did make it clear that Shady Sands was the first capital, implying that they have a new capital. The “NCR” holdouts are clearly insane and have started very far from the Republic, I was kind of glad to see the Brotherhood wipe them out. I just hope that the true Republic hasn’t completely fallen and they aren’t gone entirely
New Vegas being teased was a massive surprise. Considering that Mr House appears pre war, they are definitely doing something with his character next season. I am concerned at the state of New Vegas. It looks deserted. The Mojave looks a mess. What happened? I really demand hope that New Vegas isn’t decanonised.

For a moment at the start I thought my excitement would be dampened and you'd say it was a colossal failure but you said W - so glad your overview of the reviews didn't bring me a feeling of dread so far. I want this to be good, as it will be canon and we don't need it being a bomb when it's what comes before the next Fallout game, it would not bode well if it failed. Only other show I am gonna watch on on Amazon so far is Invincible which can also get between really gory and comedic. 😁

@@flerbus Some others found the other episodes better than the first in their opinions, for me I didn't like a certain scene in episode 6. Timeline-wise it could cause issues.
They probably won’t but I’d like health packs to be included with maybe some ironic dialogue about “does anyone know the science behind these things that fix multiple bullet wounds without surgery”? A subtle “what are you, a doctor?”reply would hand wave this nicely & allow some of the more gamey plot devices to be included. Video game adaptations always fear embracing the genre & try to iron out some of the more convenient necessities. I wish they’d embrace them occasionally.
Alredy watched the first 3 episodes a friend of mine got mad said not to hate watch now we plan to binge watch the rest tomorrow 9/10 so far grate story amazing characters and some dam funny sceans

@@flerbus Not imo, just watched to ep 3, the show was amazing. All the actors have nailed it so far, all the main characters are fleshed out and you get their motives. It surprised me, honestly thought it would be like Halo or Mario where they either make shitty world building and ruin the lore, or make the MCs goofy goofballs who do nothing but make the "Bad guys" succeed by accident only for the "Girl boss" to save the day in a ham fisted way that is out of place feeling. None of that here. Very mature, very lore accurate, very Fallout actually. Thank God.

Remnants, not exactly a faction
We were all jazzed by the image of the downhill view of a Super Duper Mart. I like that they chose their own story but imagine Emily Blunt as an older and wiser Sarah Lyons.

We binged it in one day. We loved it. Without spoiling it (I hope) the only thing I'm having a hard time with is Shady Sands. If you know, you know. The timeline just isn't computing and the whole rest of the show was meticulous man. 9/10
Maximus was a survivor of the Shady Sands destruction, and technically so was Lucy. They’re both still young. I think people are misconstruing the “fall of Shady Sands” point on their timeline with the nuke, which actually happens later. The show takes place 15 years after NV. If Maximus was 5 and is 20 in the show (the youngest/oldest) it would have happened the same year as NV. But he was likely older when it happened (6-8) and younger during the show (probably 18), meaning it likely happened around 5 years after the events of NV at the closest.

Just finished season 1 it was pretty good not sure about the direction they took some of it but overall I liked it especially the ending 👌 it does explain what happened to ncr no spoilers but would definitely recommend
They stuck the landing... They really made a great version of a video game. (Fallout player) This feels so good.... "Once Lucy ran to the bathroom with the knife in her stomach I yelled at the TV, "Use a Stimpack!" She F'ing did it! The Ghoul did the same for DogMeat, I cheered!! Set design phenomenal. Music ques, not bad. I appreciated the flashbacks. Vault Tech conspiracy story has a brilliant reach and darker tone that feels so good. The Wasteland people have come to life and hate the people from the Vault So real..This Fallout story is a definite Vault 33 storyline. Loved it..

It's hard to know weather the show considers New Vegas cannon or not.
Frankly, it could have been the show runners not paying enough attention to dates, however, if the dates in the show are correct then the NCR fell apart 4 years before the event of New Vegas. Which means, New Vegas makes no sense, and is pretty much thrown out the window as a possible cannon event.

The production value is good. But the lore is completely borked. The NCR has been gutted, all West Coast Fallouts might as well have been retconned into oblivion. Best case scenario, this is an alternate timeline and we will never heard of it again.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this gets a season 2 so I guess you should get used to complaining more

They just need to release a fallout 3 & new vegas remaster. That would hold me over until they release something new. I actually just tried going back to new vegas but the graphics and mechanics just made it tough
This adaptation wouldn't exist if it weren't for the success of Arcane. Arcane put video game adaptations on the map. And now we have fallout to be added to the new era of great game adaptations rivalring and sometimes surpassing some of the best cinema in existence.
I hope we continue to see winners like Fallout and Arcane
I've been playing every version and DLC of Fallout since it came out and completed every quest and side quest. How does a vault get hit by raiders with no security. How did they not get alerted by rad readings. Did you even watch the game cut scenes.
My biggest complaint is that it's literally another Bethesda 'FIND X FAMILY MEMBER' story.
Also I hate Maximus he's such a little 13itch.

Yeah, they did the brotherhood poorly here, still I could've been worst overall am enjoying the show, very in line with how a fallout story would go.

I watched 6 episodes straight before I had to go to bed, which is very similar to playing the games. It was really difficult to turn it off. I can't wait to get to 7 and 8. So far, i am so invested, curious, and excited. One of the most impressive parts too me is that my wife, who is def not a gamer, watched the first 2 episodes with me before she decided to go to bed. But, she told me she's into it and wants to watch the rest. Anna she knew once she left me alone in the living room I'd most likely binge the entire thing. Almost. But, I'm excited to go back and rewatch it all with her. She's the type who just doesn't get how I can sit and play games like fallout for hours. But it was something special when I noticed she was thoroughly engaged in the episode. And I think maybe this series will help her understand the allure of the fallout landscape.

Literally retconing the NCR and just nuking them to reset everything back to Todd's vision of Fallout is fucking horrible. Changed it from a decent show to trash in an instant. Why make it in Calfonia if you give zero shits about the setting?
nuking the ncr was not the bad thing, they had many problems new vegas makes it clear they were doomed to fall in time. the problem is the retconning of new vegas to where the game just could not have happened given the timeline they tell us that shady sands was nuked in 2277 when NV is in 2281......

As someone who's out hundreds of hours in fallout 3, new Vegas and 4 this show was absolutely amazing. This is the closest show I've seen based off a game. The set designs are amazing and they have everything from the games. I'm so freaking pumped they showed new Vegas at the end. They still got tons and tons of things for future seasons. No Death laws, murlerks or mutant's yet and I'm excited for all this to come in the future. I hope they don't cancel it.

I saw the first 2 episodes. It was ok and I will finish the series. It's not GOTs by any stretch but its good enough to keep me going to find out where its going.

They wouldn’t capture New Vegas if they didn’t want us to be excited for it. The timeline is uncanon. It doesn’t mean the storyline isn’t. The fact New Vegas is even part of the show is crazy bc of it being a spin off and different game studio.

No it isn’t 😂, the world setting I can’t take serious anymore bc of the poor acting and cringe performance. They made the brotherhood look like a cult and a joke for their “knight” who can’t even control the power armor right with unrealistic standards. They mentioned the enclave but it just a basic building headquarters surface instead of underground. The world setting was poor that they use same scenes for characters to end up the same place rather than different to experience other places and see atleast places mentioned in the game. The character development and story plot line was poorly made, I don’t see why they choose these characters and also missed out on others from the game. They missed out the prewar plot, apocalyptic creatures, etc that includes from the game. The missed most factions like Insitute, Railroad, etc. The game such as FO4 was best plot line and character development with good world setting but I don’t recognize that from this series 🤦♂️

I'm waiting for the Drinkers approval. As an old school Fallout fan (Fallout 2 & New Vegas mainly) I've seen the franchise abused often enough already and I'm not ready to witness another abuse.
I’m also an old school fan, I started with NV and enjoyed playing FO 1 and 2 as well. Just going to warn you, they retconned most of the west coast lore, this show is definitely made for fallout 3 and 4 fans.
And that’s fine, I’m glad lots of people are enjoying the show, it just doesn’t feel like fallout to me. And it’s not interested in maintaining the continuity of west coast lore and storylines, which is disappointing.
EDIT: I really wish Bethesda set the show in Alaska or the Midwest, that way we could have seen something new without them messing with the west coast lore.

Also who is a Fallout 3 and 4 fan? Most people I know who liked those games, also liked New Vegas.
Most Fallout fans including New Vegas fanboys, never played 1 and 2 so let's stop pretending that every NV fan is an old fan.
Most people never heard of Fallout until Fallout 3 came out. Yes, the only reason Fallout became so popular is because of that one game you despise. Bethesda made Fallout popular and they got Obsidian to make NV which is my favourite but unlike you, I am not a Bethesda hater. NV uses the gameplay style of Fallout 3 which I remember old fans complaining because they preferred the old style of gameplay from 1 & 2. Funny how they stopped complaining about the gameplay once NV got popular.
Have you played Wasteland 2 or 3? Those are more your style if you're an old Fallout fan. I would say old fans should move onto Wasteland. Fallout is not going back to the old style so you need to move on.
I like the Wasteland games too.
Don't pretend that Fallout 3 fans didn't like New Vegas. Sure you may find a few but majority liked it because it was similar to Fallout 3 in gameplay as it used the same engine. Fallout 4 is also similar but the gameplay is smoother as it's a newer game.
If you hate Bethesda then you're no longer going to like Fallout games or the show and you should probably move on as this franchise is no longer for you. Also Fallout 2 and New Vegas did have retcons too. People just like to ignore them. All franchises have retcons, it's not exclusive to Bethesda.
I’m a huge Drinker fan, and I’ve played hundreds of hours of Fallout 3, NV and 4. This show is great! Haven’t finished it yet as I’m on episode 5, but so far it’s made me happy. There’s no dumb political messages, the characters are fleshed out, the setting is beautiful, it’s made me laugh out loud multiple times, and they casted well.
Honestly I thought the show was mid at best, glad youre happy though

the series was good in setting the fallout post apocalypse atmosphere with a nice story too! the only thing that I noticed though that there is a apparent lack of radios and radio stations, like ingame almost all people have radios with active listeners and even DJs!
