If I were that interviewer I’d have reread the exact same question immediately after Sarah Bond stopped talking.
Problem is... if you do that, they won't come to your interviews anymore. It's a bit of "we pretend we're asking questions, you pretend to answer them." People don't like being asked tough questions and go someplace else where the interviewer is friendlier. Then they'll get the interviews everyone clicks on, they'll get the exclusive information and you'll probably even lose your job as a journalist. If you lose access to key industry people, what's the point in keeping you? Especially since someone else might have that access. At the end of the day, interviews require both sides to be comfortable. If you make people uncomfortable, don't expect them to give you any interviews.
@@octavianpopescu4776 We really need stricter laws on this. Journalism is integral to holding politics and big business accountable and yet 99.9% of journalism is held hostage by those they do stories on simply because there is always someone else who'll give an easier interview for a higher pay cut. Specific kinds of interviews should be protected, so that if someone refuses to answer your question, they get sued, even if your journalism outlet doesn't want to press charges. The government should just do it.
Now I understand of course this will never happen. But it REALLY should.

Fuck the shareholders, consumers first.
Putting the customer first always pays off in the long run, these execs only have a quarterly view of things.
Yet half the people that make this complaint ARE shareholders. Some directly, some through 401k or other vehicles of investment. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from my observations over the last few years it doesn't feel as though the gaming industry as a whole is flat, but rather the american gaming industry has fallen flat. I look at games like Resident evil 4, elden ring, crusader kings 3, baldur's gate 3, all fantastic games all from outside the U.S.
Does anyone else feel this way, or is it just me?
It’s absolutely not just you. She’s out of touch and clueless
Western AAA gaming is legit dying outside of a small few IPs
Look at hoyoverse star rail had 20 million downloads in a single day and now their new game got 30+million pre-registered players in less than 24 hours. They keep getting growth by making what customers want. Xbox keeps blaming the industry when it's fine and Xbox is the problem.
Agreed 100 percent. I had a blast playing these and other AAA games released last year. I have been playing games since 1989. And 2023 was for me the best in terms of gaming.
The eastern devs have esp. shined the brightest last year - Nintendo, Namco, Capcom, SE, and more.
It's only that the western studios that have fucked up. Sony is now a western greedy corp like all others. There is no hope from the western side. The reason is that they are forcuing on gayrbage ideology rather than entertaining gamers.
Flat doesn’t mean no good games or absolute successes, flat means as an average. And the rest of the world is included in that average, yes

I can't believe I canceled mine yesterday as well. I just got GamePass Core now because I no longer felt that the $16.99 was justifiable. I did the same thing with my PS Plus subscription though. I started off with PS Plus Extra and then for three or four months I had PS plus Premium but I just went back to Extra because to me the premium tier was not justifiable.

I don't know what the "excitement" of seeing Sarah Bond rising through the ranks is.
Every time I've heard her speak, it's like she's just a figurehead that failed upward being told what to say.
She carries herself well, but she just says word salad that seems like she's going off memory of what someone told her to say, and nothing is her own thought.
That’s a good point
I'm relieved that some people can sense that. She reminds me of a robot that nervously says the script she's been programmed to read. I'd be excited to see her go down the ranks until she's ultimately fired.
The fate of every DEI hire. At least Microsoft can afford her without going broke...yet.
Throw her to the wolves??? She earns A LOT of money, man. She is paid to be there and answer the tough questions.
Also, Bond serves on the boards of organizations such as Zuora, Chegg, and the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). She benefits of all this stuff
The thousand yard stare 😂
It's not just gaming, inflation strikes everywhere
I'm 52, and have been gaming 40+ years. I like all consoles - but Microsoft very, very, very clearly don't give two shites any more (if they ever truly did) about the XBox platform, and gaming. At this stage, my XB has a small fraction of the games that my PS5 has, largely because it simply has a dearth of MS-exclusive titles of note. MS patently does *Not* care about its own XB platform, or gaming.
I imagine this is true... Microsoft at this time see's the gaming division as an expense and its time to collect...
So yea, parent company never probably cared but is most definitely a lot more eager to see some serious return on these hedged bets and sadly, gamepass among other titles since 2021 really havent panned out for Daddy Phil and others...
Also about Starfield. When is console mod support coming? Been waiting on that since January
7:22 I think it is a key moment when she talks about Fallout TV Show, maybe they were just waiting to see the feedback about the tv show, before going forward with the closures. It is related to the focus on main/existing successful IPs.
I'm glad you brought how it sucks that Sarah Bond had to face the music alone since most of Xbox's wounds have been caused by Matt Booty and Phil Spencer instead of completely ragging on her
well, she is the right skin color and gender. what else was matty supposed to do? label the piece of garbage as such? cant do that.
She is the "President" so she is just as complicit. I agree that Phil and Matt should have showed up too, but let's not act like she's some low level PR person they sent out.
@@pocketaces6756true. I’d imagine they are extremely slammed at the moment for time and with dealing with the fallout from the teams but ideally this is kinda interview where you’d hopefully have two people execs to at least bounce off of each other or have one person who is super practiced for these questions which Sarah probably wasn’t just cause busy with everything else. Not the worst interview realistically, but definitely didn’t help the online storm currently on going.
Man, she is literally paid A HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY to do things like that and you feel sorry for her?
This is insane!!!
No one felt sorry when was Phil doing the same lol.
Stop defending this just because she is a woman. That woman there is the President of Xbox. She is not a HR employee
@@pocketaces6756 She's the president of Xbox, not Microsoft Gaming. It's a big difference. Xbox is a publisher arm of Microsoft Gaming, just like ZeniMax and ABK are.
Matty is finally awakening from the Matrix
How, if he could possibly not see the difference in 30fps vs 60fps?
He’s finally seeing some light
He’s beginning to believe…
Not yet
There is no spoon. But the spoon is good games.
I'm jumping back into a new Starfield playthrough this week with the update. There are so many things I love about it but the core experience just didn't grab me the first time. Going to jump in with a fresh pair of eyes and see how it goes.
The seats at the Ninja Theory office must look like those at a Magic the gatherering conference right about now...
My family and friends are successfully cut off of the Xbox ecosystem. Gamepass subscriptions cancelled and all consoles sold. It’s one thing to complain about a company for its mishandling of beloved franchises and it’s another to keep giving them your money knowing they don’t care about the gamers anymore. No thanks.
At the end of the day they see all the numbers. What may look like a good thing on the outside may not be something that supports itself. I remember when people where criticizing Netflix for canceling shows. Netflix replied that they have never canceled a show that made money.
how are these people still on the job, its insane.
I love seeing your shelf full of original Xbox games makes me smile.
Forget the makeup industry. Gaming is where the real drama is at.
The corporate world is disgusting and corrupt as hell. You can be entertain by their greed and bloodlust in any industry.
