I respect your unwavering dedication for the rights of all Americans. The fires which engulfed Hawaii was heartbreaking and left us dumbfounded by the lack of vigilance to defend, acknowledge or investigate how such a dangerous could happen. Then, to learn the government has yet to provide true assistance to the men & women who are counting on insurance companies and AVAILABLE Federal funding is unconscionable.
Side note: I was around 25 years old when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. I live right outside of New Orleans. No water damage and we were insured by Allstate insurance- deluxe coverages.
My point is… at the time I did not know how the insurance companies try to wear their policy owners until you give in to their low ball offer. We had 6 different adjusters visit the house, structural engineers from different parts of the country writing reports which did not correlate to the true structural damage done to our home. 3 different estimates stating the cost to repair the damage to our home were needed. All estimates were discarded & we had to start over. Yes, we participated in 3 different arbitration meetings. The insurance companies try to wear you down. A great deal of people did take the below market value of their home and leave Louisiana.
My point is, in many ways I can relate to the mounting weight of uncertainty which plagues each Hawaiian.
🛳️ JUST A SUGGESTION:
This might sound crazy, but to help elevate late of housing issues, why not use cruise ships? Cruise ships which would be paid for by the U.S. government/FEMA. The cruise ships would be docked in various locations around Hawaii.
By doing so, the Hawaiian people would have comfortable “temporary” housing paid for by the Federal government and their human needs would be taken care of without worry.
Plus, they would have easy access to their property and remain a presence, the faces of the horrific atrocity. Control will be given back to the people!
Also, the luxury hotels would be able to start operating their doors to the tourist.
* I truly hope this makes sense!

As a Maui resident it is heartbreaking and devastating to see the continuing effects from the fires here.
Many families are finding they have to move off island, all these months after.
I personally am paying a ridiculous amount in rent for a very small place and I am grateful I was able to find a place at all...

1. The US government should be funding Maui residential rebuilding rather than funding Ukraine.
2. The US govt help clearly has not matched the Maui residents’ needs.

I live very close to Paradise California and saw the devastation that happened to the Paradise residents in the Camp Fire that destroyed the entire town. That happened in 2018 and they weren’t able to begin rebuilding until 2021. It took a long time and to remove the contaminated soil (I personally saw thousands of of dump trucks hauling contaminated soil out). There is finally homes being rebuilt and residents are moving back.
I feel so sick about what happened and it’s despicable what has happened to Maui. I hope it gets better soon. ❤️🌺
