Really? If it were absolute the pro-2nd community would take every word of it because “In expounding the Constitution of the United States, every word must have its due force, and appropriate meaning, for it is evident from the whole instrument, that no word was unnecessarily used, or needlessly added. *** Every word appears to have been weighed with the utmost deliberation and its force and effect to have been fully understood.” - Williams v. United States, 289 U.S. 553, 572-573, quoting from Holmes v. Jennison, 39 U.S. (14 Peters) 540, 570-571
The purpose of the 2nd, as the court ruled years ago was to guarantee that Article I, Section 8, Clauses 15 & 16 are fulfilled by "We the People". But of course, as I've learned in bumping heads with lawyers and leaders of pro-2nd groups, is that no one actually wants to perform the Duty commanded by the Constitution that enforces and protects all our rights. Going out and performing your Constitutional Duty is just too much for the vast, vast majority.

Personally, I believe in Tulsi’s change of heart. I did the same. About 12 years ago I was an anti-gun youngster that didn’t know better. One just have to look at my playlists to see that I took a completely 180° on that position. I started collecting guns as a hobby like cycling or diving but gradually understood the significance of owning them and how lucky we are compared to most countries where citizens can’t have them.
Why I’m not worried about Tulsi’s past positions on firearms legislation: in recent times, most gun control bills passed under Republican administrations. When a democrat tries to pass legislation, we stand up and pressure our representatives. When it’s a Republican in office, we complain but the majority let it slide, because at least it’s “our guy” in power. Democrats’ strategy now is not to pass unpopular laws, but to create “regulations” through unelected bureaucrats in the ATF.
A quick reminder of gun control in recent history:
FOPA/1986 - Ronald Reagan, the largest firearms regulation since LBJ 68’s Gun Control Act and FDR 34’s National Firearms Act.
FIREARMS IMPORTS BAN/1989 - George Bush Senior
Assault Weapons Ban/1994 - Signed by Clinton and almost renewed by W. Bush until he lost the House in 2006 and saw it wasn’t popular with his base.
Bump Stock Ban/2018 - Although limited in scope compared to the ones above, it shows that Donald T. Is not an ardent 2A supporter.

When I first saw Tulsi early in the 2019 Democrat primaries I liked and respected a lot about her but not her then party platform. I believe she has had an honest evolution of thinking and of heart. The gun community is a very skeptical and jaded and slow forgiving community (for good reasons). Its going to be a long hard sell to win them over...but well worth it in the end. Very hard. I hope we all get wiser. If we dont want people to change then all 2A influencers should stop doing what they are doing. She would be a front runner power player for the DNC right now if she followed toed the line. She didnt. She has learned and I hope more people take her path. Our government is out of control. One of the greatest roadblocks to any attempt at dialog about any issue is that one or both parties do not really want to agree to common language and common rules of discussion. We saw this with all of Bill Clinton's equivocation about the meanings of common words that are commonly understood and accepted by the average person. That type of equivocatinf and disdain for common rules and common language has the effect of undermining and destroying social mores, commonality, and social harmony. That destructive behavior turns things chaotic, and from that chaos the equivocators try to raise a different form of government and society that is built on the ashes of what the equivocators seek to destroy,. Those attackers want to destroy our society, our Constitution, and our tenuous way of life in this our constitutional republic.
Only those souls who are willing to commonly discuss and commonly work on our social problems are ever going to preserve anything that we value. No fence-sitter ever built or defended anything. The only way we can be successful in our efforts to save Theae United States of America is to get involved constitutionally and continue to be constitutionally involved in our society. Everyone who waits for someone else to do the hard work of responsible US Citizenship is a passive weight that is dragging down and killing off everyone who is actively working to save our US Constitution.

You need to forward this to the guy you were talking to, this is Epic. Feel free to copy and use this.
There once was a man who moved to Alaska. When he got there and saw all of the Grizzly Bears roaming freely throughout the countryside, he said to himself, I need to buy an Arm powerful enough to defend myself against these Grizzly Bears. So when he went to the Gun Shop he was Appalled at what he was allowed to buy and he said to the owner, why aren't you selling Arms suitable for me to defend myself against these Grizzly Bears. He said to the man, the Grizzly Bears passed a law, the only gun you are allowed to purchase to defend yourself against the Grizzly Bears is a .22 single shot rifle, that's it.
"[I]f circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens. This appears to me the only substitute that can be devised for a standing army, and the best possible security against it, if it should exist."
    - Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 28, January 10, 1788
“The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States.”
Noah Webster, "An Examination into the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution," 1787
“As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear their private arms.”
    - Tench Coxe, Philadelphia Federal Gazette, June 18, 1789
“Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of.”
    - James Madison, Federalist No. 46, January 29, 1788
“[W]hen the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British Parliament was advised by an artful man - who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually, by totally disusing and neglecting the militia.”
George Mason argued in favor of citizens being armed, as he stated at Virginia’s Ratifying Convention, 1788
“The militia is the natural defence of a free country against sudden foreign invasions, domestic insurrections and domestic usurpations of power by rulers. It is against sound policy for a free people to keep up large military establishments and standing armies in time of peace both from the enormous expenses with which they are attended and the facile means which they afford to ambitious and unprincipled rulers to subvert the government or trample upon the rights of the people. The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered as the palladium of the liberties of a republic since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers and will generally even if these are successful the first instance enable the people to resist and triumph over them.”
    Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story
    1833
