Thank you for uploading this. For me this is a very special match. It's basically the day I fell in love with tennis. Watching this as a kid, seeing Dimitrov cramping and hitting that winner at 13:10 to defend the matchpoint - it literally took my breath away. After this, it became my dream to see some day a match at Monte Carlo Masters. I think it's also for some people a match that make Dimitrov recognisable. He was fairly known for his talent before, but this game underlined his potential, because MC was and is Nadal's temple.
Nadal and Dimitrov had some incredible matches. They played an epic at AO17, the best match in the tournament imo, this one, and also Shanghai 2017 which was awesome. There were also some other good ones like Beijing 2017, AO2014, and Cincinnati 2013. It’s hard to call it a real rivalry though, as despite a lot of close matches, Nadal dominates the H2H 14-1, and ever since 2018 the matches haven’t been particularly close.
Will really miss Rafa at MC this year. With both him and Novak being tied at 22 Slams, it would've been interesting to see how the build up starts for Roland Garros this year
@@_Solenn__ We don’t have any proof he won’t either though. He’s managed to get himself in-form for RG pretty much every year since 2005 except for 2015, but even there he made the quarterfinals and lost to Djokovic. I’m not saying he’s guaranteed to be healthy and in-form by RG, but there’s always a chance with Rafa. Last year no one though he’d win.
@SJ most of us thought he would win. It's been the same thing with injuries or whatever before RG for the last 3 or 4 years. But he still wins in the end anyway. Except 2021 where Djokovic had some extreme luck + clutchness
Time is so cruel. It has been 10 years since I watched this match live on the internet. Nadal was then a dynamic young 26-year-old, now one of the oldest players on the tour. If I could rewind time, one of the reasons would be to watch Nadal's young and dynamic state.
These last few years, Rafa has been absolutely fantastic, but I do think there was a lot more entertainment value in pre-2019 Rafa. I still love watching modern Nadal hit winners and crush the ball all over the place, but watching young Rafa problem-solve and sprint all over the place to hit passing shots is imo the greatest entertainment tennis has to offer.
Djokovic won the event that year but Rafa was in red hot form and wrested year end No. 1 ranking by winning so many events like Rome, Cincinnati, Rogers Cup besides RG and USO
So much potential and he wasted it all. It is a pity. Edit. Seems I was a bit misunderstood. No.3 and WTF is one hell of an achievement. But much more was expected from Dimitrov
This match belongs to Grigor. Period. Paradox happened, and...Dimitrov gave him a present. Same present Grigor gave him again at AO four years later.🤨🤨
I really think that you can tell Dimitrov is really confident here just by noticing how many spin backhands he played. Nowadays he would slice half of them, making him easier to play. Still a very good though, but not one that can make you win slams. I'd loved to see him maintain the level he showed in AO 2017 when he went the distance against Rafa. Nowadays, unfortunately, he is too intermittent to be on the top and he does not have many years ahead of him
That’s why people should stop comparing him to Rafa. Alcaraz is so much more of an aggressive attacking player like Federer, Nadal is a defensive counterpuncher. I love watching both styles :)
It's amazing how me, as a Nadal fan, block out of my memory all tournaments that Rafa didn't win. I can only remember the match he lost. The only tournament I can remember previous matches is 2012 AO, those matches against Fed and Berdych were phenomenal. 2013 Monte Carlo lost in the final to Novak, so that's the match I remember
Way back when the ball boys & ball girls would bring the players their towels. Feels like forever ago. Ahh the good ole days. 😅 And the fact that this was 10 years ago is wild 😵😵
People might not read this but I am sick of hiding the truth and not being bold in faith. There will come a day of Judgement for everyone on Earth. If your name is not in the book of life you will go hell for eternity. And I’m not condemning anyone or pointing fingers. Cause I don’t know the future, who knows if I’ll still believe in God when he comes. But thinking that way now is just me giving up and my Abba didn’t raise me that way. The only way to receive eternal life in heaven is through Jesus. And by now you might be rolling your eyes if you’ve read this far. Apart of loving my neighbours is telling the whole truth. I love you stranger with my whole entire heart, it might not be perfect but I do anyways 😂. People all around say that the Bible is misogynistic and hateful and a whole slew of things. It’s not. I’ve been an unbeliever before. But when the Lord showed up in my life and changed me for the greater there is no way I’m looking back. You might have heard the story of Jesus being crucified and raising from the dead. He died so he could atone for all our sins, so that we could have a chance at going to heaven through our salvation and allows us to have a genuine relationship with God. Forget about what the media says. What your peers say. Even self proclaimed Christians. Take the chance to ask God show himself in your life. You lose nothing but can gain everything. ❤

Not a great tactic by Dimitrov to outlast Nadal. But he nearly did.
This was such a great match from the young Dimitrov.

He's still gonna win RG because it's RG. As long as he takes painkillers as he did last year he'll survive RG while being in decent form.

You can tell by the amount of hair that both have that this match is not recent lol.
@@Laland_1196 well it’s kinda misleading bc of the fact that it’s clay season and that say 2013 at the end of the title
@@crimson6967 How is it misleading when it says that it was in 2013?????
Although the Head to Head shows a huge superiority to Rafa (14-1), there were great matches against Grigor, especially the AO semifinals in 2017.
Rafa is just amazing

Rafa movement was quick back then.
Coming back from the injury too, lost this tournament but won the FO

Where is this dimitrov’s play now? Great play. Thank god he gives us a serious Roger vibes.❤
Looking at the way Alcaraz constructs the points on clay, most of these rallies would have been 5-10 shots less.
