Watching Grigor have a great start to 2024 brings me back to this match. This was one of his greatest performances ever! Im so happy to see him playing well. God i hope it gets a slam! Maybe Wimbledon or US open?
There is a part of me that says Fed watched this match and took note from it. Fine tuned it a little more and used it to beat Nadal. Feds backhand in 17 was outer wordly and i think watching Grigor take the ball so early and be aggressive with it gave nadal so much trouble here.
Credit to Nadal though. Fed and Grigor both playing out of their minds. Basically had to play the same player twice and still managed to take both matches to 5 sets! Just a beast!

In that tournament Murray reached the semi and was close to beating Djokovic in a match that lasted almost 5 hours. After this match I remember I grew immense respect for dimitrov and also tried to follow him. After a match like this, you'd naturally expect him to stay in top 10-15 but sadly he wasn't consistent. But the talent is incredible. A very close match

Still, one of the best hard court performances of Rafa, especially considering that Rafa is a confidence player and that he hadn't had the highest confidence before coming to this tournament.

I was lucky to watch this match live in the Rod Laver Arena back in 2017. Felt like I had just witnessed one of the best matches in a long time. After the match, me and my brother were saying that it's going to me an easy final for Nadal, because Fed was not going to hold up much with his backhand like Dimitrov did.
It was a soft guess. Roger shattered everyone's expectations which is also why it was more pleasing for all Fed fans. Not only a better match than this, but one of the best matches in the history of the sport played with so much drama. Good memories...

Tennis today is such a drag. Just non-stop blasting from the baseline. No finesse, no touch. String and racquet technology (and slowing of the courts) took away the variety of shot making.
