His forehand let him down because of injury. He was hitting even easy shots totally out. What was even more affected was his serve. If you watched in the game stats over the match, Federers 1st serve % went way down from the start.
This is 50% Federer playing injured and still went to 5 sets. For those who doubt he played injured, compare this level to the Wimbledon final. Night and day. His serve and groundstrokes have zero penetration and placement here after the third set. Had he won injured, he would have either pulled out or been creamed by Medvedev. Bad luck at the US Open for Federer for years. This reminds me of his US Open loss versus Robredo some years ago.

His foot hit the ground at the same time he hit the ball.
@@tjg801 he's talking about the backhand, not the forehand.
bonzwah1 who’s? Feds? If so, I am not hearing it.
yeah fed's backhand. it was particularly loud and poppy since it was such a clean and powerful hit. that's all the OP was referring to.
If it did next shot would have been a chip and charge because you can’t control the ball if a strings breaks :)
No 3 in the world at 38 simple phenomenal
I owe everyone a beer if he defends those points
It's like watching two Federers (or two Dimitrovs) in this match.
上手いんだよなぁーーーー〜〜どっちも
フェデもボレーマジで神ってるし
G.O.A.Tと言われる理由ですね!
Grigor played out of this world in 5th set
This is 50% Federer playing injured and still went to 5 sets. For those who doubt he played injured, compare this level to the Wimbledon final. Night and day. His serve and groundstrokes have zero penetration and placement here after the third set. Had he won injured, he would have either pulled out or been creamed by Medvedev. Bad luck at the US Open for Federer for years. This reminds me of his US Open loss versus Robredo some years ago.
Robredo match was way worse
Just passing through on my journey to watch every Federer match.
He played himself lads. He literally played himself.
Two players with similar styles and tehnique
There's a 9-year age difference people, don't forget that. Had he met the prime Roger, he would've had a very slim chance at winning.
I hate when fed fans always attribute a loss to injury whether it is or not. He may have been in this match but grigor had a set and a fourth set break. Should be congratulating the opponent which is what I always try to do when my main man Rafa loses
He was officially injured so his fans said that.
He is not injured he is injured in Australian open 2020
It is clearly seen he is injured in Australian open semifinals
Federer losing in straight sets to Djokovic is impossible at Australian open for sure
Federer is the GOAT!
The fifth set was so forced that Fed stopped playing 😅
POWERFUL FULL AND SUPER TOP RANKING PKAYERS IN THIS GAME...............
BOTH PLAYERS IS ENERGY FULL, STAMINA FULL, STRONG FULL, TECHNICAL FULL, PRACTICE FULL AND POWERFUL............
BEAUTIFUL RETURN, POWERFUL SHOT, LOVELY SERVICE SEEN IN GAME............
VERY LABORIOUS AND TOFF GAME
BUT GAME IS GAME, AND WINER IS WINER....................................
Amazing!
Cool too see a little serve and volley.
ESSE É O REIZINHO DA ENTRESAFRA
6:58 "He's making Federer recognize what it's like to play against Federer", that's how you know that Grigor is literally baby Federer.
26:58
Grigor: I finally beat you!!!!!
Roger: (shakes umpires hand) sorry did you say something
Lmao 😂
I couldn't hear that
Swertessoto
Pces o
Pop
That's exactly what this game looks like.
Federer playing against Federer.
As of 2022, anyone gonna think this is Federer's last match in the US Open?
Update: it's official. He will retire after 2022 Laver Cup
18:44 LMAO
What happened? Was it a net?
28 year old Federer (USO 2009) VS 28 year old Dimitrov (Uso 2019) would have been so lit
it would've been straight sets lol
Fed in 3 straight sets lol
What a match.............................
Honestly, Roger talent + Djoker mentality = 40 Slams
+ wawrinka bh as well, fed bh is too inconsistent
I remember this game, Roger just ran out of gas in the fifth set, he wasnt the same after that wimbledon final, like he used up his final bit of strength in that final...
That has nothing to do with it lol. Roger had a back injury on the tournament. He didnt quit because he didnt want to finish the match that way. He didnt run out of gas
@kal Ke he was injured, shut up nobody cares --> that's like me saying Djokovic played horrible level of tennis in Wimbledon 2019 which is why Federer got so close which is true
The way he reached finals in his peak time it looks like it is weak era only
How can he reach finals these many times 2004 to 2007 actually strange
He reached 3 Grandslam finals in
2004
He reached 4 Grandslam finals in 2006
He reached 4 Grandslam finals in 2007
He reached 4 Grandslam finals in 2009
Something is odd actually how can he reach these many finals in a row without losing a set Also
Djokovic is goat of tennis sport.
It is weak era or not actually it looks like one sided only to me
The players are losing in straight sets to him how is that possible.
Fed was obvi grigs idol like the rest of the world and mimicked his game/strokes/racquet/walk/style/also stands in for fed on the occasional date night. Fed has the absolute cleanest, most economical, best bang for buck, most stylistic looking strokes in the game. Grig may have slight better wheels but mental and confidence and just about everything else goes to fed but both equally as cool.
Dimitrov is only 28 , .. Federer is 38 !!! .. BRAVO Federer !
Federer was injured
Wow i had no idea, thanks for that amazing insight
@@viktorhamori6572 he was injured, shut up nobody cares --> that's like me saying Djokovic played horrible level of tennis in Wimbledon 2019 which is why Federer got so close which is true
@@abhinavabhugupta1051 I do not care who won that match in 2019, check the result, no clear break from Djokovic, Federer played the better game, on this level everything is just a moment. Federer should have scored the matchpoints and then nobody could come up with that lucky win ... I can mention some cases in Wimbledon when Djokovic was a better player but not in 2019, defintely not.
@@viktorhamori6572 I agree federer was rue better player in majority of the matches, but that djokovic mentality in those tiebreakers to just not miss a shot is something that is caught federer off guard and left a lot of people in awe
It's funny to see those Federer's fans hoping his hero to keep playing n winning. Yes, federer's talent is one of the most rare thing in sport. But, he is only a human being just like all other athletes in other branches of sports. N now that his days r over, they should let this talented dude retire in peace. Let him enjoy his lavish saving n his legendary status. What else after 20 years of the greatest tennis n 20 GS collection?
Rusdayati Idrus well nadal less than 20 has 19 so far.
@Logan Legend I applaud you .The greatest living sportsman.
See you next year #21
Two greatest single-hand backhand players ever.
Full match of dimitrov and federer please
0:56 Djokovic would've clapped
When does Federer starts to struggle? It's tough to say. Looks like at the end of third set he starts to walk slowly 13:25
5:13 who's the other player alongside Karlovic?
Richard Heywood I'm pretty sure he meant that only Karlovic and Federer are playing here from 2000
No, he says 'the only two other players that played the first year Federer played'.
Lopez
Aging n injuries n fatigues have swallowed federer. He should retire n enjoy his lavish saving n legendary status.
Shut up idiot
Yes and let Nadal enjoy the position as the new goat!
of course Fed is always good at the net, but man he seemed like he was extra proficient with his volley game this match.
Who's here after Dimitrov's win againsst Rublev?
