The problem with the shape was that it was not hollow inside. The light was able to trace inside the bottle, showing the weird reflecting on the other side.

Hi I'm just confused, Why do you have to create a 3D in AI when you can duplicate it then flip it horizontally and merge it? then you send it in PS to paint it all in black so it get flat then you used 3D effect in PS.
You don't have to start with AI. you can simply build it all in PS. PS even renders 3D, although i personally think Dimensions does a better job and it of course frees up PS from the render time. It's more of a personal preference, I like to have my original shapes as vectors. Thanks for the question.
Thank you! Dimensions was really fun but then got a bit boring and limiting. I was using the Torus model a lot but needed the ring to be thinner. Now I can just make my own model. Sweet.
Sarah S yeah, that was a big eye opener when i realized any obj can be rendered in dimensioncc. Characters, scenery, although, its still pretty limited compared to other programs
Killin Smallz From a graphic designer's point of view, it's amazing - just gives your designs a little boost. But yeah, I can see how it's pretty limiting if your a professional 3D artist. It doesn't help that my Mac Mini can barely handle it too! I'm trying to create a thin ring in PS right now and struggling a bit. But I'll get there :)
Thanks. This is good, but I will have to pass the photoshop step, since it’s no longer supported after January 2023.. now Illustrator has 3D capabilities, still not fully fledged.
That's good to know. I honestly have not used this pipeline for years. I use Blender for everything now. has a bit of a learning curb at first but is worth it.
Sorry for the late reply. At the moment making adjustments in DimensionCC is very limited, you can type in numerical positions in an objects properties panel in program, but it's not great. DimensionCC is planning a new update allowing more control for users and an ability to create models and change models in program. So that is very exciting. Not sure when that will be released though.
Does anyone know how to export wavefront with textures so that the color carries through to adobe dimension? I'm having trouble figuring it out. Thanks!
I don't think Adobe is currently equipped to handle texture imports from other programs. For the time being (unless they updated it) you have to apply all textures to an OBJ while in Dimensions, or PS. I've spoken with one of the people who deals with the adobe updates for DimensionsCC and importing UV textures isn't on there list of things to do. but it is on their radar. atm the program doesn't know what do do with UV textures that were created outside of Adobe. It's a big hindrance
if i import an object in dementions it says: "Could not complete your request because Dimentions does not reconize this type of file" but it's just an .obj file so i dont know what to do
IBenBlue hmm somtime dimensioncc has a hard time reading .obj’s when they’re made in outside programs. An easy fixi found was taking the .obj that isnt importing correctly and open it in photoshop, then export the 3D layer in photoshop as an .obj. The ps obj should be a larger file and import correctly
yeah, I'd already found a solution, I needed just to save and name my 3D photoshop project and also do that for the exported layer and then Dimentions could read it. But thanks anyway :)
There is way more too it than that, That's just how i use it usually. it's great because you can still use sculpting programs while your art is rendering. when before we had to render in program and that would stop all other work for hours.
Haha that's a good point, I think this channel is still in the phase of "I'm not sure what i'm doing with this yet." I should probaly update the bios a little bit though, since these few tutorials i've done have gotten the most traffic. Just really hard to find the time to make these videos with everything going on. But thanks :)
Looking for a usable 400ml and 500ml white walled aerosol can with actuator and also plastic cap that i can wrap my artworks around, any one point me in the right direction. I have found one in Adobe CC but its $45 US, I'm lucky if i have 45 pence
Can I ask how to make the glass to be real transparent not like black glass? When I make the glass texture to be more transparent, my logo also change to transparent...
it requires you to build it serperatly and save it as a seperate file. when you import to DimensionCC you'll need to import both OBJ's for the bottle and cap and then place and size the pieces correctly in DimensionCC. To my knowledge PS only exports individual layers as OBJ files for DimensionCC import. Hope this makes sense :). I'll be putting together a Video soon detailing this out. Because it's a pain to do.
I actually just figured it out... You can make the bottle and top on the same photoshop file. The you select both layer and go to 3D>Merge 3D Layers... DONE.. Then continue as you did it .
The problems i've noticed with merging the layers in PS and exporting for DimensionCC, then the bottle and cap are one layer and you can't independently change the color or materials for the bottle and cap. which is limiting for design. IF it work it works thogh :)
It works with no problem... It goes into dimension as a group. Im just seeing some weird line on the actual 3d model like your first attempt on your video. Thats all.
right-on, i'll have to give it another look. so merge the 3d layers as a single layer in PS, then export layer as obj? that saves it as a group for dimensionCC?
copy cat I also want to give you a heads up. This video is old and I’ve recently re-done this video with some of my newer ones. I would recommend checking those out. We RUclips tutorial makers try to convey this stuff as easy as we can. It’s just 3D is a very sophisticated thing to learn.
@@KillinSmallz I have used maya since its alias days - all i m saying is this software is supposed to make product rendering easy but of all the tutorials i saw besides yours - its actually not doing that.
So long as Maya works/exports an OBJ. it should be able to import into DimensionCC. Blender3D is what i normally use and it has problems when trying to import a BLender3D OBJ into DimensionCC. You have to use PS to import the OBJ re-save the file as a new OBJ from PS. I'll actually be putting together a video on this next week since it's a big pain the designers hav'nt fixed yet.
The short answer is you need to have a second OBj. that fills the inside of a glass container. My glass was also solid all the way through, which if you want liquidi in the obj i built it woun't look good. You'll want to make the first shape that follows the outside and inside edge of your glass, so it's empty inside when your revolve the shape for 3D. the liquid will be a solid obj that matches the inside edge of your glass shape. then apply your 3D effects and save as an obj. i would also recommend only revolving the left half of any shape to the right edge. gives better results that how i didn't cut my bottle in half before applying the 3D styles in PS.
Alright, super! Need to create 3D models from stand up pouches, which as a shape are more asymetric than a bottle. Would need to show you an example ... right now I am not able with some of the shapes to create such a model ... That´s the kind of help I am looking for. Can I upload an image to you somehow ...?
Hi killin, thank again for the video, I have a small question tho, I did a rendering on adobe dimension before it was supper perfect, but today, I tried to do another class bottle, but it comes black and the material doesn't work good in it, even for the rendering, do you thinks its an update ? thanks,
@@KillinSmallz yes, as you do in the video, well, I instaled the previous version of dimension but the same problem, I donno if i can send you a screen shot maybe,
Khalil a screen shot might help. To my memory when I would get black glass, it usually happened with my photoshop file. When you make a shape in ps and 3D warp it. Dimensions is sensitive to which side it is rotated on. It might be black because dimensions thinks the normals of the mesh are facing inside instead of outside. Dimensions can’t read normals that are facing the wrong direction. It breaks a lot of the materials. Try 3D revolving your model the other direction in ps. If you rotated it right to left, try left to right. And the normals should be facing the correct way. You can also try dimensions own way they auto clean meshes. I think it’s called re-generate normals or something like that. That might fix it without having to re-build your file.
Yes, when dropping/importing models into DimensionCC, it will often place it anywhere (usually off camera) to center the camera on the imported Model, click " command+F" to center on which ever object layer is currently selected in your layers. I uploaded a new tutorial which is quicker and more detailed. i sort of rambled on a little in this one.
Lol you could not be more right. It's something i've been planning but i've been so busy with planning a wedding and then immediately moving after, still unboxing things. I haven't really had the time. But i'm planning on re-launching this 3D series into something with better production, less mistakes and something closer to an actual lesson plan. I'll be posting a video within the next month to my subscribers letting everyone know the plan and what i'm going to be doing with this channel going forward. paying someone to build it wouldn't be cheaper. $45 is a good price for a re-usable asset.

not in a band currently, but still have some oldies from NoneShallThrive
