I subscribed to support my old schoolmate with whatever happens next (for both of us having surgery albeit for completely different medical issues). All the best Tom with the op and progress following.

Hi Paul, the Pablo fooled me. Is this an alter-ego? Thanks for the support.

Been living with an L5 disc hernia since June 23, improved November and December but came back with a vengeance since.
My journey has included all sorts. Acupuncture, acupressure, electric therapy, belts, stretching, Pilates, meds.
    Things are slowly improving.
But the whole experience has been horrible.
    Good luck with the surgery!

Hi Dan, So sorry to hear this. It's awful, energy sapping, stops you doing the things you enjoy and makes you think every time before you even move. I hope you find a good solution. I've gone down the surgery route but it is a last resort. People do seem to get spontaneous good spells so I hope you will be enjoying one soon. Surgery is done now and I feel fantastic. That may wear off as the drugs dissipate but I am uploading a video later today about the experience. Mine was excellent so far. Another video will go out next week when I reveal the scar!

Thanks for that. Feeling pretty good at the moment. Surgery is done, just about to call the nurse to attempt to get up and have a wee.

Good Luck with the surgery, Tom. Everyone's experience with this is different. For me the surgery helped but by then the nerve damage had been done and I've recovered to about 85% after six years. If you don't already have nerve damage I'm sure you'll have a better chance of a full recovery. All the best.

Thanks Jack, glad you got something from your surgery. I guess I’ll know in a week or so if it’s been effective. Pain has been minimal so far and I have been up on my own for a pee. Can’t sleep but I am sure I will be tired tomorrow night. Hopefully dropping another video on Friday.

Hi Tom I had bulging disc had a dystectomy in 2009 then a spinal fusion in 2011 , unfortunately I have still been in terrible pain and sciatica since , hope all has gone well with your surgery

So sorry to hear that. To go through that and still have no solution must be soul destroying. I had surgery yesterday and feel fantastic today. It could be the general anaesthetic wearing off. I’ll find out tomorrow.

I've had massive pain since March 2023, have tried everything, couldn't walk through shops, can't sit for too long, can't stand etc. Mri, bulging discs, L4,L5. Physio nup. Tried all the drugs. Finally went to a chiro that said he didn't think pain was from bulging discs. He looked at it differently. He did fascial counterstrain, pain down to a 2 in 2 days, now I'm walking around pretty good. Not completely gone but takes a while. Definitely way better and on the mend. I feel for you all who are suffering, really debilitating.

Great story, I love it when I hear of people having success. I think it takes trying a number of different tools to find the right one. Good that you did it without surgery. I remember when mine dropped suddenly from a 10 to a 3. Sheer joy just to be able to sleep at night. The pins and needles and dribble continued though. Had to be done.

Thanks for the share. I am not doing the surgery route yet. I recovered from this before. But love to know how it turned out.

Hi Stewart, thanks for that. It’s a big decision, my pain has reduced a lot but the location of the bulge could impact my bowel control etc so I took the decision to go for it. I hope to be home on Thursday and if I feel up to it, I’ll do an update on Friday. Good luck with yours.

That looks like my disk L4-L5 and a similiar protrusion into the spinal canal pressing on nerves causing sciatica pain.It hurts in all positions and is currently like a 7-8 on the pain scale...thanks for your video and please post your recovery journey as soon as you can.

So sorry to hear about your pain. I had heard of sciatica and thought it was just an annoyance but it absolutely floors you. Sleepless nights were a killer. I was so lucky, went from 10 to 3 and it has stayed at that. Had my surgery this afternoon, taken some vids and will publish hopefully on Friday. Pain has been very light so far but the anesthetic may wear off overnight. Hoping to get relief so I can walk some distance again. I found that my stride got shorter and shorter. Trying not to hope for too much and be disappointed.

Do go, I put up with it for a good while as I assumed it would go in a couple of weeks but it just dragged on and on. The weird thing is that i thought I had broken my ankle some how as I just couldn’t stand on it, I also thought I had a DVT. Had it checked out and it was just the nerve playing up. I have total empathy now for anybody with chronic pain. Hopefully the doc can get you an MRI. I had mine and they sent me straight to A&E. I nearly shat myself with the shock. Had surgery yesterday. Seems ok so far, won’t really know for a week whether it has made the difference but not in pain now apart from the scar.

I’m from Hartlepool so just down the road from you and having the surgery in Washington. I don’t want to mention the doctor’s name but he was excellent. Let me know if you want his details. I know a few people who just couldn’t wait on the list and went private out of desperation. I got lucky as my employer paid for it. It seems like you get an instant emergency operation on the NHS if you need it or you are in a long queue. Good luck.

I’m a month in. Severe pain in mid buttock to my foot. Can’t stand up can’t walk. Pain immediately. I have to go get an X-ray and I just had my blood work done for my annual today and it killed me. I cried all the way home and came to bed and cried. It hurts so bad so now I don’t know how I’m going to even go to my x-ray, but I have to.

Hi Cindi, so sorry to hear about your pain. I had no idea how bad sciatica could be until it hit. It’s totally exhausting. The weird thing is that it just seems to come go in its own time. The high points are excruciating. I hope you get some relief soon but there doesn’t seem to be a single answer for this awful affliction.

Very sorry to hear this. People try so many things for sciatica and for some of them it suddenly disappears. That didn’t happen for me and it sounds like it hasn’t happened for you either. I understand how exhausting it is. I’ve ended up with surgery but that really is a last resort. I’ve been lucky and it seems to have worked, had my surgery yesterday. Not sure what to suggest because everybody’s situations is different. Go back and consult your doctor and see a good consultant. All my best to you.

@@smilingmanu8820 that is so hard on you. I’ve tried a few things, some helped and some didn’t. Interestingly, specialised breathing did help me with the pain. I have a local expert and he taught me a number of breathing strategies. Helped a lot at night when I was trying to sleep. I’ll put a link in for a playlist of videos.
