Let’s talk about how to fix sciatica pain. Sciatica is a problem with the sciatic nerve, which is the longest and largest nerve in the body. 90% of sciatica cases involve the discs in your spine.
Copper is used topically in many types of natural therapies for inflammation and pain. It’s also used for myeloneuropathy, which can lead to various nerve problems. In many cases, myeloneuropathy is caused by a copper deficiency.
Copper is very low-risk, non-toxic, and relatively inexpensive-it’s something many people can try.
One of the enzymes that greatly impacts sciatica is the same enzyme that uses copper as an essential cofactor for building collagen. 75% of the outer part of the discs in your spine are made out of collagen. Copper is also used in enzymes involving your nerves and is essential for many other bodily functions.
    Top causes of copper deficiency:
    • A lack of copper in the diet
    • Intense physical exercise (especially at higher altitudes)
    • Taking a lot of zinc, iron, potassium, or niacin without also taking copper
    • Consuming enriched flour products
    • Consuming fluoride from tap water
    • Taking high amounts of ascorbic acid
    • Excessive sweating
    • Sun tanning too often
    • Stress, high levels of DHEA, or high levels of cortisol
    • Consuming distilled water
    • Gastric bypass surgery
    • Consuming too much sugar, coffee, alcohol, or aspartame
A genetic problem with copper absorption can also lead to a deficiency in copper.
A copper brace that wraps around the buttocks where the sciatic nerve is or other topical copper remedies may be beneficial for sciatic nerve pain. But ensuring you’re getting enough copper from your diet is also essential.
    Foods high in copper include:
    1. Liver
    2. Oysters
    3. Shellfish
    4. Dark chocolate (sugar-free)
    5. Cashews
    6. Meat
You may also want to consider taking a copper supplement. Remember that if you have a genetic issue related to copper, you may need to take copper supplements in higher amounts.

Hey eric, Ayurveda reader and self practioner here. Just a quick thing, in our Indian families copper has been placed as one of the vital things and was used in multiple ways, however to make sure one does not get copper deficiency, our ancestors made copper utensils and stored water in them overnight. Bracelets might be one of the short term fixes, but the utensil stays forever, I even have one in my home passed on from my grandfather. Keep in mind to not place dairy products in copper, it can cause severe digestive issues on the long term. Thx for the reminder for copper, and I hope my comment helps 😊.

Here's something to consider: The sciatic nerve goes through a small opening in the pelvic bone. That opening is very close to the colon. I believe that when we eat certain foods (for me it's cherries), the colon becomes inflamed, and because the sciatic nerve is so close to the colon, it also becomes inflamed. Thus causing the sciatic pain. I'm speaking from experience... because every time I eat an excessive amount of cherries l get sciatica.

If the "sciatica" is localised in the butt cheek, and if the straight leg raise test is negative, then it's probably piriformis syndrome, in which case the cure would be to stretch and strengthen the hips, especially the opposite hip that the pain is on. The gluteus maximus and medius typically need to be strengthened, whilst the piriformis needs to be relaxed via hip external and internal rotation stretches.

My husband has piriformis syndrome and the doctor said true sciatica goes all the way to the toes. Piriformis syndrome typically only affects part of the leg. But the stretches help both since they both pertain to that nerve.

Thank you! I think that is what I have, sudden dull pain and on my left butt cheek that travel down to the back of my left leg up to the back of the knees making that leg slighly weak. Thank goodness It doesn't go all the way down to my calf and foot. Pain is manageble and only last for less than 2-3 minutes but it's very sudden. I'm still trying to figure out what triggers it because it's not regular occurance but when it does suddenly appear, it's always on the same spot or side.

Thank you so much, Dr. Berg. Your videos always seem to come right on time. I am a recent recipient of horrible sciatic pain and low mobility. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to navigate life. I also have plantar fasciitis and heel spurs in the same leg along with an arthritic knee from a 20-year old car accident. I just recently started wearing magnetic anklets, and i can already see a difference with less swelling and better movement in my leg. Still too stiff for some stretches, but i am definitely going to try out the copper bracelets. Thank you! ❤

      @Veronica-qq8uc 6 месяцев назад +3

I hope you find relief from the pain and better health. I have had painful plantar fasciitis 2 times. The first time lasted 4 months and years later the second time I got it, I knew the healing benefits of fasting so I tried fasting. For 5 days I did a water fast and on day 3 the pain was gone! Amazing and very cost effective! I have done this another time after a car accident and as a result had chronic joint pain. I was taking (useless) painkillers for weeks, then remembered (!) fasting healing and again, pain gone on day 3 of a 5 day fast. Our bodies are miraculous but just need the time/rest from food to heal. Blessings to you.

I have severe sciatic back pain. I've had MRI's,Cat Scans leading to root block treatment, taken every kind of anti inflammatory, pain killer, tried acupuncture and receive ongoing physio. Any kind of heavy lifting is really painful. I loved my job as a builder, loved playing football and going to the gym but this has quite literally ruined my life. I've put on weight due to inactivity,I struggle financially and am constantly trying to stay out of debt etc. I use various stretching exercises daily that feel good at the time but can't resolve anything long-term. You use your back for everything. Living with severe back pain is so stressful. If we had a quick remedy I would have known about it by now. God bless and thank you
