the comedy gets turned up a notch on Rush Hour 2 because Chris Tucker heard people say they thought the bloopers were funnier than the whole movie and he took that personally.

I remember him saying that in an interview. Lol as much as I like Rush Hour 2, I still feel the first movie was a superior movie in terms of comedy & one-liners. I felt like first movie was more effortless in the comedy, whereas the second (and third) really forced it.

Fun fact: When I was in community college, I took public transport to get to the campus. One day, our driver was an Asian guy. When we pulled into another depot to pick up some more passengers, a black guy stepped on the bus and was asking where a certain location was. The driver, being new, didn't understand because it was a location he had never heard of before. At one point during the conversation, the guy asked the driver, "Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?"

There were lots of cool behind-the-scenes details that I got out of the commentary for this movie. One interesting fact about Chris Tucker is that he had real trouble sticking to the script. A lot of the weird interactions early in the film were him adlibing. Him interacting with extras was everywhere in this film. Jackie was still learning basic English at this point and the two legit had trouble understanding each other.

Hollywood puts too much restraint on Jackie (and usually pair him with a fast talking American). His best movies all come out of Hong Kong cinema. Legend of Drunken Master, Who Am I?, Rumble in the Bronx, and Operation Condor are some of his greatest. Also good are his many 'three dragons' movies, with Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao.
