- How Powerful Is The Doom Slayer? Among many video game giants like Halo or Call of Duty, it's no surprise that Doom, a precursor to FPS games, still manages to stay relevant and fun with the release of Doom Eternal. The Doom series follows a space marine known as the Doomguy who's tasked with ending a demonic invasion from Hell, and along the way, he has to defeat mighty titans, higher-dimensional angels, and even the God of the universe itself with guns and his bare hands to rip and tear them to pieces.
So without further ado, let's find out as I go over the game, the lore, and beyond to decipher how powerful the Doomslayer REALLY is!

Fun thing to note, Doom Slayer uses guns to torture the demons. His bare hands make it too easy.
The Doom Slayer uses guns for fun to inflict the pain and suffering to the Demons. When he is done shooting at them. He will just rip and tear them apart.
But when Bullets Go Dry. The Demons Begin to Cry against the Doom Slayer.

I once read that the reason the Slayer uses guns instead of his fists, is to make the demons suffer more. Which, I got to agree with. simply one punching demons would probably get boring, or not fuel his rage as much. So using conventional/unconventional weaponry, actually makes sense. Look at our soldiers, when they get shot it is agony. The Slayer WANTS the demons to be in agony. Hell, more than agony. He wants them tortured, ripped to shreds, burned alive. He wants them to make death seem like a blessing. My own head canon is that, the demons are scared shitless of the Slayer, and the only reason they can't run, is because they were never programmed to. All they know is to throw themselves at anything that is an obstacle to them and kill the rest. But the Slayer? All they can do is do what they were programmed to do. Throw themselves at the obstacle. But this 'obstacle' is unbeatable. And they know this.
and also one of the reasons that he uses guns was as well a tradition as he was once a marine, like spawn was that even though is a very powerful being, also uses guns and is also a marine once but like the saying goes, "There is no such thing an ex-marine", I forgot that one who said this so I will give props to whoever said that.

We should also consider another possibility that Doomguy only fights with a small fraction of his full strength, he deliberately toys with his enemies. In the novel Starship Troopers, there’s a quotation with the meaning roughly as “War is a form of limited violence, we don’t need to wipe them out with nukes, but to teach them a lesson that we can storm their territories and make them suffer like raiding our own candy store, that will be enough to persuade them to behave”. So Doomguy is clearly broadcasting a message to everyone in multiverse: “I can rip and tear you by the most gruesome ways whenever I feel like to, so live in fear for eternity.”

Nah, AG2 straight up butchered DOOM's lore. Shit was so stupid "Ooh, he's now a clone of God who's actually now Satan and lost his status of god because reasons." It was cooler when he was just a normal guy turned into a demon slaughtering machine through a series of unfortunate events
very true. i just can't forgive what blizzard did to the diablo and stacraft lore in the sequels. diablo 1 & 2 had awesome lore, and from 3 onwards they retconed EVERYTHING into a generic piece of crap. starcraft got even further shafted. from one of the most interesting scifi universes to a soap opera in space. bah.

It's not just the Doom slayer got buried in rubble, he also was sealed as were essentially in a state of magic coma during his time inside the sarcophagus.
The keep that holds that sarcophagus was so closely guarded that the demons guarding it fought like their life depended on it, because they literally are.

I mean... the Slayer got trapped underneath a Blood Temple so it's not like it was just a random building.
The place was probably filled with dark magic and they dropped all of that onto the Slayer and immediatly put him in the sarcophagus.

To add another reason why the Blood temple cannot be used to Downscale the Slayer.
They literally actively chose not to kill him while he was immobilized. They had access to dozen of titans that could've been used to squash him and produce a payload much much lethal then a Falling temple but Hell and the Dark Lord thought it would be better just to seal him away.

The Doom Slayer defeated the Dark Lord Davoth in ritual combat who created and would Hell itself. A Multiversal to arguably Hyperversal Dimension that predates time and space.

For those wondering, all of the Slayer’s weapons are made viable against his foes by the Slayer’s energy, or his life force. They may use regular bullets, but his energy makes them able to damage GOD
And he literally fuels his weapons with the death of his enemies. It’s just symbolized in game as pretty little explosions of ammo.

Based on the lore, we can fairly easily explain Doom Slayer's ability to damage universal beings with utterly mundane weaponry. Doom slayer has Weapon Refinement or something similar to how Ki works in DBZ in that Trunks literally used a normal sword to turn Freiza into hamburger. In that case it's Ki, I'm going to assume that in DS's case, it's the Praetor Suit as it'll tell him straight-up what he needs to Do to have the weapons straight-up upgrade by themselves. Not only does he get sustained by killing Demons, but he also uses them to gain more power in more ways than one.
It's just in the a rule of a Primeval. They themself are logic as it's written in the codex. Also by the rule, only a Primeval can kill a Primeval so the Slayer can pretty much go full naked mode, bitch slap the demons with his cock and they will die.

This actually makes sense, as the Quad Damage report says that it enhance the damage of the weapons wielded by the user, even if it's a pocket knife, so it's not too farfetchd saying that the slayer can do the same.

They can be defeated by the KO like it was with the tample, or damaged enough (Davoth suit was damaged while it's as empovered and it was stated many powerful non-prime beings tried to fight him which stated he's can be knocked out), just cannot die by any other hands. The DOOM slayer was captured because the demons bated him with something he couldn't resist. It is never stated EXACTLY what it was but it was something he couldn't let go even knowing it was a trap. The demons collapsed their most sacred temple on top of him to STUNN him for a few seconds. Then they cast a quick spell to separate him from his armor and lock them both away. The demons had no idea of his relationship with his armor so they never even dreamed to taking it out to study how to damage it. Also the temple was like the size of a city. That is what it took to stun him a bit. Had they tried to cast that spell when he was fine, he would have shrugged it off. Also it is said that the fight between the Slayer and the Titan lasted for a decade. Non stop.
The Demons dropped the Blood Temples on top of the Slayer, and it only did manage to stop him just enough to seal him.
If a fucking temple can only knock you out instead of stopping you completely, then you know you're beyond everything they had used to stop you.
And to think that they made some dinky little tank demons as “slayer hunters” and thought that the doom slayer would care.

I believe Hugo stated that DoomSlayer possibly empowers his weapons in a Doom Livestream, he said he doesn't think much about that stuff I think. The Icon of Sin is a Universal Level Titan who's presence literally warps reality and caused singularities that eventually suck in a entire universe to Hell itself. He is basically a Titan that was used by Hell as a Universal Hax.

Actually Hugo Martin confirmed that actually the Slayer amplifies the weapons he uses (most likely with his argent energy magic) meaning they pack way more firepower which is how he was able to gun down the Icon or stab Davoth.

Imagine making the original, not knowing how fucking busted the protagonist would become almost 3 decades later.
Another thing to note. Doom slayer technically can’t die. Even if you somehow do manage to pierce his skin which btw is said to be even stronger than his armor, he would get ressurected. You can kill him, but you can’t keep him there

@@chibidoomguy4841 Doomguy isn't metaversal. Davoth was a universal God who created everything within the one universe, but in codex it's said that he is a traveler who came from another, even higher dimensional plain. So there are higher beings than Davoth within the Doom multiverse/metaverse.

At first, I thought the Doomslayer would've been around large star lvl at best, but DAMN, I never thought he'd be _that_ OP! This made me think that he stands a fair chance against other OP characters, like Gilgamesh (or anyone in Fateverse), Kratos, Sephiroth, Asura, Darkseid, Goku, the Avengers, some pretty OP SCPs, some very-powerful Isekai characters (ones with ass-pulls and have their themes be playing in the background while they do their attacks lol), and more!

Yeah my favorite part of the lore is that I'm pretty sure the respawn mechanic from the games is canon.
One catch there is that Sephiroth is often heavily wanked. His Supernova attack is clearly an illusion as Earth is fine and intact afterward and he needed an outside source of help to summon a celestial body to do any real damage to the planet

The whole temple thing wasn't just about the weight, hell basically used all of it's magic at once and was only able to put the Slayer to sleep,the temple was just a distraction.

If you’d like a little context, the reason he was trapped before 2016 is because of a demonic curse, one that very similarly trapped the dark lord and the father.
So he was basically put to sleep and sealed away because nobody wanted to mess with him, or break the curse by hitting him.
I like to think that the whole "being buried in rubble" is actually made out to be way smaller than it ACTUALLY is. Like, a systematic destruction of an incredibly large structure and even of the surrounding area to come cascading down specifically on top of DS. It takes THAT MUCH to trap him in the same way a normal human would be trapped under a bit of collapsing debris.
They probably lead him into like a 50th floor basement before collapsing those 50 basement floors and a 100 floor building on top of him, before building another 100 floor building on top of that.
Reminder that Berserk powerups used to last forever within a level, the devs didn't have to do that, but they did. I like to think the old berserk powerups made with medicine were way stronger than those made of energy. Though berserk also only basically quintupled his strength, instead of effectively making it exponentially higher more or less.
Actually it doesn't last forever nor until the end of the level. It lasts for an insane amount of game ticks (i forget the number) so it seems like it does. Learned that from one of decino's videos. He's got some damn good analysis vids!

Lore wise the Doom Slayer can easily kill Khorne and the rest of the Chao gods.
Video game wise the Doom Slayer can still kill Khorne but it would take a lot more time and levels.
If there was a Doom/ Warhammer 40K combination game, it would take the player on “Please Don’t hurt me” difficulty a thousand hours just to get the boss battle against Khorne. It would probably take 6 months in total to be the game.

Really not trying to be rude but. He wouldn’t, he really wouldn’t. Khorne is literally violence made manifest. Even if you did somehow convince me that Doomslayer could damage khorne, fighting him would make khorne stronger. I don’t really believe the whole “multiversal slayer” idea (I still think he’s strong), but the chaos gods are so unbelievably out of his reach. I’d say he’d definitely be able to fight many greater daemons, but the actually chaos god? No.

@@beastmastergaming8039 there are many reasons. The two biggest are that each of the four chaos gods is always trying to dominate the other three. And that the chaos gods are unable to materialize in real space, and are only able to suppress their army’s’ power to the point that they’re able to materialize.
The other Chaos gods probably yes, but Khorne would get the biggest boner in history just by seeing the Slayer walk into the 40k universe. Every action of his would only make Khorne stronger as he's violence and death taken shape, and if he killed the other gods, Khorne would get a ridiculous buff just by that. But maybe the slayer could kill him by like, ending all wars and death in the universe so to starve the thing to death but that would mean ending even the ecosystems food chain, and while he's alive he would regenerate and keep demons going out and killing or even infighting to refuel him so it's really impossible.
As a fellow DOOM fan (I'm an active powerscaler of the verse. I have my own videos on it and at times I work on it on Vs Battles Wiki. Hell I'm actually one of the two guys who spearheaded the CRT that got DOOM to 2-A) I have to say, you put out a fine video. You among other things, gave an alright summary of the Slayer's story and rightfully said that the stupid temple feat was a low-end outlier. My only big complaint is that you should have put more sources in the video. Granted, you got the big stuff (I.e. The blatant higher-dimensional statement for Urdak and Hell transcending time and space) but things like individual Argent caches having more power than that of a nuclear reactor, or the Icon of Sin smashing up Hell need sources.
Also how dare you not mention the John Romero easter egg in DOOM II you son of a bitch.

Agreed. A big draw of yours and Seth's videos are you two usually heavily source your claims. I can't tell you how much I used the Goku vs Omniman vid just for that reason in debates. This one felt kinda sloppy to be honest. You really only started to pull in the sources near the later half of the vid. Also this should have scaled Doomguy for Doom 1 and 2. Like I'm still not sure how powerful a human would have to be to clear the forces of Hell singlehandedly. So as far as Doom 1 and 2 goes Doomguy is vaguely x powerful and or the demons from 1 and 2 are just weaksauce. I really wanted more detail pertaining to that.
Also there is a larger discussion to be had about gameplay vs lore scaling. Part of it is that authors and designers aren't great powerscalers in general. Let's be honest. But the other end of it are literary things like 'death of the author'.

Some things to note , and I'm not sure why nobody talks about them:
1 , it is said in the codex that Urdak exists outside the dimensional boundaries such as time and space , however later on , Hell is depicted as a living entity that exists beyond even that , which could go anywhere from massively beyond dimensions , or even outright beyond reality. I mean , it's called a realm and a living entity more then it is called a dimension , so you'd think it actually does exist outside laws of reality , as dimensions do have time , space , gravity and other laws of reality. If that is the case , then Hell is outerversal in nature.
2 , Hugo Martin says that the world in DOOM is a multiverse , and there are multiple mentions of it being a multiverse , in the lorebook that comes with the deluxe package (the one with the helmet) , in one of the chapters it says his battle against Hell would become a multiversal level threat. However , there are codex entries that state that there are infinite timelines and dimensions. That is more akin to a hyperverse rather then a multiverse , and if it is the case that it's a hyperverse , then we'd be entering levels of power that... are just beyond fucked up to say the least.
3 , the reason why the Slayer fell at the end of TAG P2 wasn't because of the Dark Lord's death... I mean , it technically was , but not because of the things established in the story. There were many theories before Midnight interviewed Hugo Martin , one of the theories being that because the Slayer was born human and became a God that he wasn't able to absorb the Dark Lord's power without pain , the Slayer does grow more powerful for everything he kills after all. But no , the actual reason is because he has no purpose , he stopped the demonic invasions , and the Maykrs sure as fuck aren't gonna be operating , so nothing is threatening humanity on a level that it can't protect itself... but then the next game will come out and gives us some bullshit reason as to how the demons escaped Hell. I know this last one isn't really helpful for the power scaling part , but I still wanted to mention it regardless.
And lastly , 4 , the Slayer was lured into a temple that was brought down onto him. The size is unknown , but there are Titans the size of skyscrapers that are depicted struggling to move with temples on their backs , so it's most likely nothing to laugh at. As for how they even trapped him into the sarcophagus , we can only theorize this. The best theory I can come up with is that the Hell Priests used the demonic Crucible. It is the most powerful artifact of Hell , and a tree in DOOM 2016 does speak of it being the weapon that , according to it's prophecy , a dark priest will use to annihilate the Slayer. I mean , the Slayer has a red flashback of it , even though he only learns of the demonic Crucible later on in the story.
I saw somewhere that the Praetor suit wasn't worn for protection against damage, but mainly to just soak up more argent energy, which the Slayer uses as fuel essentially after he was put through the divinity machine.
Yes, it was in a codex entry of eternal when you meet tje betrayer. Betrayer was the one to make the Praetor suit just so DoomSlayer can get stronger by killing. And it's apparently made of the same material that Kahn Maykr's and Icon of Sin's armour were made from (can even be father's(vega's) armour.

The reason why he was found under rubble was because the demons were terrified and had no way of stopping him. So, they set him up so they could drop a tower on top of him just to knock him out.
I think the game sticks to the lore because in strength he's ripping these things apparently when they are stunned so technically he's using guns to stun them so he can kill them (with his hands)
And in his eyes 👀 meteors and demons are moving slow because we are the doom slayer but to human eyes it might be faster then we can handle

At surface level, you're a superhuman capable of creating tornados and meteor rains, but lore-wise, you face arguably the god of this world, and, in the dark arisen dlc, daimon, a being who created a realm that pulls arisens of multiple dimensions or timelines to it. Wanted to know how the arisen scales to all this.

Yes, the lore is the true world of DOOM.
The gameplay is really only there for the players, the lore is there to not only give context, but to show how weak the player is compared to the in-world Slayer we see in the lore.
Comparing in-game Slayer to in-world (or in-lore) Slayer is like comparing the Earth to the rest of the Observable Universe.
Video games are limited to what they can do especially with characters like Doom Slayer. If Doom Slayer was one-shotting all of his opponents then the game wouldn't be fun they have to make their games interesting otherwise people won't play them. this would also apply video game characters like Kratos from God of War and Asura from Asura's Wrath.

Got summin to do with the Divinity machine was powered by a piece of the dark lord, and doomguy received that power. Vega literally said that the slayer is the darklord, polar opposite in the Earth dimension. Maybe given a few millennia the slayer could harness the magic side of things, but physically he has the same power as the dark lord and it is said only he could dominate hell. That is why hell is so afraid of him.
Hey Chuck, you also forgot to mention that Samuel Hayden's maykr form, Samur, who according to the codex, was able to wing across all of creation(the whole multiverse), so that's immeasurable speed feat to add to the irrelevant speed scaling, otherwise good video. Also you could definitely argue higher than just multiversal, since Davoth came from a void beyond the multiverse, and Urdak is a higher diemnsonal realm that hell is even higher above.

I don't think you should rely on real life speeds of things like lightning, plasma, rockets, and meteorites to formulate estimates on the Doom Slayer's speed considering it's very clear to literally everyone that they just don't travel as fast in game as they do real life.

The Doom Slayer has Infinite to Immeasurable Speed. Because he scales to Samur Maykr(Samuel Hayden) The Seraphim with his wings could cross creations with sheer speed which has Infinite timelines and universes. that applies to the Khan Maykr as well.

Just want to point out that a lot of the lore written about him in game was written by demonic forces. There is a pretty regular theory floating around that his power was embellished out of fear from the demons and praise from the sentinels.
He’s still massively powerful, but perhaps not a truly impenetrable being of unlimited speed and strength.

Second off, in the DLC for Doom Eternal there's a statement that Oitright states the words of the Codex are not "poetic" or Metaphorical, meaning they mean what they say.
