I love the idea that this normal man who simply disobeyed his commanding officer became a force that not only destroyed hell multiple times, but went on to disobey a god because she had become corrupted.
I'd like to add to the part of where the Hell Priests trapped the Slayer in the Cursed Sarcophagus. A lot of people were confused as to why they did it, if he was basically defenseless while he was in stasis, why not just kill him? Because the Slayer, after being blessed by the Seraphim, became a Primeval. Like Davoth the Dark Lord, which is why the Slayer could kill him and vise versa. Primevals in the Doom universe are unmatched in terms of their Powers unless fighting a higher being. The only beings that can kill Primevals are other Primevals or something higher. The reason why the Hell Priests didn't kill the Slayer while he was in stasis wasn't because they didn't want to, *it's that they couldn't if they tried.* So the only way they could see to stop him was to put him in stasis and lock him away. The only fight the Slayer really had to take seriously was the Dark Lord himself, because he was the only one he knew of that could actually defeat him.
What a beautiful, yet depressing story. The doomslayer has always been an icon of gaming to me, along with a certain scientist known for ruining casseroles. He suffered so much, and in the end he didn't fight death. He embraced it, knowing his mission was finally over, hopefully forever. He bested evil, and even forsook heaven to save humanity. He truly is the definition of hero
This took you a lot of effort to put together and let me tell you, it was a 100% worth it. This is THE best video on Doomguy's lore on the entirety of YT. Well done, master Skyrionn.
Can I just say that the artists who made this game, the 3D sculptors, conceptual artists, ect... should have their works and names in museums. This game is pure artistry visually. It is truly beautiful.
Amazing and easy to follow timeline, much more consistent and easily digestible compared to others here on RUclips. While others jump all over the timeline, you start from the very beggining til the end even if the events in-game don't play out that way. Lovely to see your work and research laid out in such a manner. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the very kind comment! It was a really tough one to be able to put into a chronological timeline but got there. I'm planning on some more Doom content in the future too. It's a very complicated story haha
@@Skyrionn Indeed, Doom lore is a brain twister for sure. Been playing Doom since 1996 and there's still gaps in my knowledge that I manage to fill through videos like yours. The only problem is most people don't ever include Doom 3 as they think it doesn't fit the Lore, but i've gone in deep lengths to explain how Doom 3 fits perfectly in the timelime, not to mention it came from the horse's mouth that there are many events in Doom 2016/Eternal that tie in with D3. Many just don't seem to see it, yet it's so obvious.
@@egonieser nice, I've been playing since '94 (not a flex on you, I highly doubt 2 years means much) and have loved seeing this series keep being updated, getting loving mods, and remaining relevant. Doom is Eternal.
@@egonieser Thing with doom’s universe is that it transcends timelines. There’s an infinite number of 7-dimensional timelines out there, with hell affecting every single one of them. The doom marine in doom 3 could very well just be another ranger from another timeline. It’s also why all the doom WADs could potentially be canon.
If I recall correctly the lore of hell implies, they have taken over multiple universes and I think timelines, also that Doomguy/Doomslayer has traveled too an alternate universe version of his own. I think before he got empowered, he was already close or was super human as a marine. Considering you have to be very strong or durable to take fire balls of argent energy which is said to be at the temperature of the sun, also the fact he runs fast at a consistent pace and hold many weapons, even before he gets the enhancements like berserk. If I recall another RUclipsr broke down the biology and capabilities of badass incarnate. Also Undoubtedly Doomguy/Doomslayer is the most badass video game character ever made.
I can't remember if this is canon or just a theory but I read somewhere that doomslayer is actually always in a berserk mode ripping demons in half etc. at least lore-wise. He only uses weapons because he likes them and also loves to torture the demons. If anyone knows please let me know if this is canon or not.
I like the ridiculousness of his rage: "Revenge for his pet rabbit Daisy". Thank you for this video. I started playing Commander keen (shareware CD that came with PC Magazine back in the day) and Doom1 (same)
I like how doom guys story teaches us the lesson that even if you come from a simple background you can still accomplish things many would think to be unimaginable
Very, very impressive work Skyrionn. I think your channel will grow massively with the quality content you produce. I really hope you have tons of success in the future mate! You truly deserve it!
Final Doom’s brief story beats slot into this pretty well: there being nothing left for Doomguy on Earth after Doom II, he takes a marine command posting around Jupiter's moons, ever alert for the possible threats from the new UAC teleporter experiments. That two smaller invasions happen really solidifies a determination to end Hell in Doom 64, as the demons evidently won't stop trying. And the repeated failure of the teleporter experiments would really ram home a resentment of Hell-linked technology and people like Hayden, as we see in Doom 2016.
Now that's a great way to do a lore video of Doom. Everything I've watched before this has been even more confusing. This one was simple to follow and answered my all of my arising questions. Awesome work
THIS STORY IS EPIC, not a doubt i never thought a storyteller can make a story of the most complex and mysterious person that it can be so well detailed and explained.
Okay let’s calm down he’s a very cool protagonist but he’s not the deepest or most complex by a long shot someone having a sad backstory does not immediatly equate to complex or deep
Excellent work, as always. Like you said, it's still a mystery as to how he ended up on Argent D'Nur but many think Hell connects all dimensions and time works differently there, maybe the demons deliberately sent Doomguy there to unwittingly tell the Khan Makyr about Hell, knowing she would want to use it to further her agenda. We know Davoth had his eye on Argent D'Nur when he tricked her into building the divinity machine. It could also explain how Olivia Pierce was suddenly morphed into the half-machine Spider Mastermind, what seemed like an instant to us was actually years of agonizing torture and work to build this super-demon, or maybe I'm just overthinking.
Thanks buddy! Always appreciate seeing your kind words. I think you have a great point there. The Hell dimension has properties that the developers still haven't fully explored so it is highly likely. I like that idea too! Olivia ultimately deserved what she got but the torture she must have received in the process must have been awful.
The thing about the spider mastermind is that it wasn't just Olivia Pearce's soul inside it, but also a piece of the dark lord himself. It says in the codex how it's a union of two minds and before we fight it there's a similar sounding voice ordering demons to kill the slayer before he reaches the spider mastermind's nest.
@@sunshineskystar That “similar sounding voice” isn’t actually Davoth though. That’s the confusing part. Apparently it’s one of the archdemons named “Erebus”.
Yea doomguy lore is crazy. I saw a video years back that was 3 hours of lore when he was in hell for thousands of years. Not sure where dude got the information from or if it was fanmade but it was sick as fck

Really thank you, i really did enjoy this content and you have a great vioce as a narrative speaker.

He is the Doom Slayer, the Hellwalker The bane of demons, the harbinger of their doom With his trusty weapon in hand, he sets forth To vanquish the forces of Hell and save mankind. From the fiery depths of Hell they came An army of demons, bent on destruction and death But the Doom Slayer would not stand idle He rose up, a beacon of hope in the dark. With every swing of his mighty weapon He cleaved through the demonic hordes Leaving a trail of destruction in his wake As he fought to save humanity. The legends of the Doom Slayer are told In hushed whispers, for fear of his wrath. For he is the Unbreakable, the Unchained Warrior The eternal guardian of mankind. His hatred for demons burns like an infernal fire Fueled by the souls they have claimed He will stop at nothing to vanquish them all And bring an end to their evil reign. So let the demons tremble and cower In the face of the Doom Slayer's might For he is the Master of Doom, Unyielding, Unforgiving, Incorruptible He is without mercy. He is the Ultimate Predator A force to be reckoned with, feared by all demons He is the end of all ends, their destroyer. Rip and tear until it is done.
I am so glad you covered this as in depth as you did, especially the slayer's trauma. The story of what he lost is so devastating. His character is truly more deep than most give him credit for. He seems to truly care about people's suffering.
That was an epic telling of the lore of the Doom Slayer and the story of Doom in general. Hopefully now, if John Wick wasn't enough, the slayer's story can truly teach evil people or beings to stop killing people's pets.
I was hoping and waiting you'd make a video on this one. I discovered your channel just as I finished my first run of Black Mesa in September. Then I went for doom eternal. Very excited for this one! I actually subscribed as a result of your Davoth vid showing up in my recommended and I've been bringing your content. The Slayer definitely deserves his own respective vid 😎🔥

When a protagonist only excels if the player’s rage is focused into the speed, knowledge of every demons’ weakness, and mastery of every little nuance of each weapon… When a player’s resolve is unmatched, only then the Slayer can succeed.
I know it’s an overwhelmingly common take, but I have to emphasize just how much Doom makes you feel like a force of nature. Even at its most difficult, there is never any real question about who is the dominant force in battle.

Thank you for making this video, it has been ages since i saw a full 40 min video. My journey with doom began in year 1996 when i played shareware doom. Stitching all this story with proper research is a big task. Thank you so much for making such a great video !

I appreciate you very much and well done! It's not an easy job.
You did great. I’ve been a fan of Doom since I was a little girl and still it’s lore confuced me at some parts. This vid helped to clear things out, thank you!
The way you say "So..." is making me laugh a bit because it stands out a lot after how much you use it. Great timeline, never considered how well the writers kept a continuity on every game
It's absolutely one of those phrases I need to cut back on haha. I go through phases of using the same phrases. It was a really tough one to piece together but when layed out chronologically, it works. Soooo, thanks for watching and I appreciate the support!
i sheer cannot explain the amount of suffering the doom slayer has gone through and how high the quality of this video is i randomly searched up who is the doomslayer because i heard something about "daisy" i think daisy is the bunny and then i listened to this video playing meh games and this video is extremely entertaining and has insane quality.
Man that was a really well made video you have a great story telling way of explaining the lore you constantly kept it interesting and I like how you covered a game with so much lore in a reasonable amount of time just a good video imo
I would love a Doom prequel set during his time on Argent D’Nur and because the Argenta’s were sort of a medieval society, The Slayer would only have his Super Shotgun, Ballista, maybe that cool Spear and some other Sentinel weapons
I love how much this series plays into the slayer's rage. A lot of game series puts a massive focus on the main character holding back their anger and making the right decisions. Doom just gives you heavy metal to go along with the violence.
I was surprised to know that the story is solid and there was no reboot in 2016. Being a huge fan of the classic Doom, I almost didn’t play other games of the series. A few weeks ago I started the Doom 2016 and it felt like a reboot (but now I know it’s not) Great voice, great visuals, great narration. Thank you!
Great video! The only things I would like to add are: 1. The Khan Maykr was inclined to create the Divinity Machine because they were being influenced by the Dark Lord, who knew that whoever could survive the process was prophesized to eventually bring the Maykr's reign to an end, 2. Slayer destroyed the Father's life sphere because he realized Samur had no intention of actually helping out humanity and only wanted the Father back for his own personal gain, 3. Because of the death of the Khan Maykr and the absence/destruction of the Father, the Maykrs began to transfigure (a process separate to being possessed by hell), which is why Samur transforms in his boss fight, since he has finally succumbed to his transfiguration. I know there's only so much you can cover in a video while still trying to condense it, so I don't blame you for skipping over these parts. Anyways, really good recap of all the DOOM lore so far!
Man, your job is to put the story of all the doom games in one piece although they’re were never meant to align with each other. Sounds plausible to me. Good job)
Doom 3 and The Resurrection of Evil might be the link as the Marine in that game requires the Soul Cube to take down the Cyber Demon and was either destroyed or trapped between dimensions to seal off access to the human realm. Considering that the Soul Cube is a vessel of sorts, it is quite possible if it were trapped between realities, that it could very well have acted as a transferral point for the Doom Guy/Doom Slayer leading him to wind up on Argent D'Nur. However, this is if we consider that the events of Doom 3 take place in a separate universe and were transpiring in parallel to the others.
I had always assumed the slayer must have followed the demons through a portal on a raid of another world (argent dnur) and since they realized there had a chance to regroup they did just that before trying to launch an attack with the titan to take down the slayer for good. obviously it failed terribly The only major contradiction in this video is that the slayer kills the icon of sin before he makes to to argent dnur and before the guy there even knows about the demons to make the pact about his son. Just about every Doom lore video explains the lore in the order it was released but I really want to see a chronological telling, starting with the dark lord. One big detail that was missed was the doom slayer didn't just absorb some energy from the dark lord in the divinity machine but he was actually created by him directly. the dark lord tells the slayer "you are my vengeance" he had created this scheme to get revenge on the father for betraying him and by extension the makyrs as well. I don't believe this franchise is over quite yet. hell has been sealed but isnt exactly dead yet. more importantly however, there are several unanswered questions, namely everything going on with the wraiths. the corpses of just 3 wraiths where able to solve the energy crisis on earth, in the dlc we see a crystalline spear of unknown origin holding thousands in hibernation. where did it come from and what malevolent forces will follow? we've seen the power creep, and we have an entire race that has the potential to keep up with it. despite the dark lord creating the known worlds, the wraiths are said to come from somewhere entirely unknown, there are likely other gods out there.
In the books, he was ordered to mow down a tibetan monastery. Arrested for insubordination and assaulting an officer, he was sent to Mars prison, but when they arrived, it was empty and he was in handcuffs.
Thanks for this video. Nobody I've talked to ever really thinks of Doom as anything but a pure violence video game to get your bloody kicks. But while it IS that...lol, they miss the fact there is a story there. And it's a god damned heartbreaking one at that. How much suffering and pain can one person go through? Is a person built for the sole purpose of suffering? These are questions that come up when playing this game. But it gets missed or glossed over for the combat.
There might be many pages somewhere on the web but you are the only one capable of making a whole documentary. I do not know how someone can top your effort here and to be honest nobody will, you do have a advance intelligence like the people who preserved for example human history in ancient times making libraries. Your work here is equal. That's no exaggerated it was allways a task, people wrote books since ancient times, you do the same in a audio-visual medium. Searching all this is a nightmare & you made that in one entity. Greetings Konstantinos.
There was a sarcophagus in doom 3 which I believe was the slayers it's not the same design as shown in 2016 and eternal but the description for it matches up it's said to hold a hero and the slayer is a hero the design suits that era though
I would have added thy flesh consumed and sigil as well. They both take place in between Doom one and Doom 2. Thy flesh consumed has you fighting on earth against the demonic invasion force sent there. Sigil comes right after, with baphomet aka icon of sin glitching the final teleporter sending Doomguy to an even darker pit of hell he must fight through to get back to earth. There is also No Rest for the Living which takes place after the events of Doom 2. The goal of the expansion is to travel to a pocket dimension of Hell and assassinate a Cyberdemon that has been building an army of demons for his own personal use.
I assumed the ending gives the impression that in the absence of the dark lord and the father, another omnipotent figure would be needed in their place in order to keep all of creation intact, so he being sealed in that sarcophagus in my opinions means that he is now the new father/dark lord, or at least this is how I see it. I enjoyed your narration of the lore, thanks a lot! I listened to all of it believe it or not.

Then plz explain to me why I keep dying while playing ultra nightmare

What a beautiful, yet depressing story. The doomslayer has always been an icon of gaming to me, along with a certain scientist known for ruining casseroles. He suffered so much, and in the end he didn't fight death. He embraced it, knowing his mission was finally over, hopefully forever. He bested evil, and even forsook heaven to save humanity. He truly is the definition of hero
HELLO, GORDON
@@Whiteythereaper AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Still salty about the casserole, Arnie?
Yet they didn't let him die...
Honestly would be badass if we could get the doomslayer to slay angels, archangels, and perhaps even god himself
people that criticize the story of DOOM just have no idea what's going on. This story is awesome.
This took you a lot of effort to put together and let me tell you, it was a 100% worth it. This is THE best video on Doomguy's lore on the entirety of YT. Well done, master Skyrionn.
Thank you Onyx! It did take a while but I was so proud of this when it was complete. That's also high praise! I appreciate it.
@@SkyrionnGood job.
Wow! I didn't know my ancestors had such a history with the Doomguy! The more you know!
Also Undoubtedly Doomguy/Doomslayer is the most badass video game character ever made.
do u know who the youtuber in questions is if you don't mind me asking? I would love to see the video
I can't remember if this is canon or just a theory but I read somewhere that doomslayer is actually always in a berserk mode ripping demons in half etc. at least lore-wise. He only uses weapons because he likes them and also loves to torture the demons. If anyone knows please let me know if this is canon or not.
@user-bj5bo7uj1e yeah, he's usually ripping and tearing by his own hands.

So much rage for a pet. I'd do the same tbh.
Thanks for watching the video!
I like how doom guys story teaches us the lesson that even if you come from a simple background you can still accomplish things many would think to be unimaginable

Much appreciated! I'm hoping so! I'll just keeping posting videos to the best of my ability. :D
@@Skyrionn Just don't overwork yourself
Honestly, the lore was there but I NEVER could have put it together like that. That was awesome, thank you much. Amazing video/essay
Awesome work
Glad I could help! I'm planning on putting some more stuff together for Doom too!
I like how the father literally did not care that the Slayer destroyed his life sphere and helped him regardless

A very good and well explained video!
Glad you enjoyed it! It took a while to put together but after watching it through, it was worth it!
THIS STORY IS EPIC, not a doubt i never thought a storyteller can make a story of the most complex and mysterious person that it can be so well detailed and explained.
I think they kinda botched the story with the TAG DLCs but it's still pretty epic

He is the Doom Slayer, the Hellwalker
The bane of demons, the harbinger of their doom
With his trusty weapon in hand, he sets forth
To vanquish the forces of Hell and save mankind.
From the fiery depths of Hell they came
An army of demons, bent on destruction and death
But the Doom Slayer would not stand idle
He rose up, a beacon of hope in the dark.
With every swing of his mighty weapon
He cleaved through the demonic hordes
Leaving a trail of destruction in his wake
As he fought to save humanity.
The legends of the Doom Slayer are told
In hushed whispers, for fear of his wrath.
For he is the Unbreakable, the Unchained Warrior
The eternal guardian of mankind.
His hatred for demons burns like an infernal fire
Fueled by the souls they have claimed
He will stop at nothing to vanquish them all
And bring an end to their evil reign.
So let the demons tremble and cower
In the face of the Doom Slayer's might
For he is the Master of Doom,

Awesome! Thank you! This is the hardest videos I have ever written. The timeline is extremely complicated but I think I finally got there. There's more to come!

I would love a Doom prequel set during his time on Argent D’Nur and because the Argenta’s were sort of a medieval society, The Slayer would only have his Super Shotgun, Ballista, maybe that cool Spear and some other Sentinel weapons

I was surprised to know that the story is solid and there was no reboot in 2016.
Being a huge fan of the classic Doom, I almost didn’t play other games of the series. A few weeks ago I started the Doom 2016 and it felt like a reboot (but now I know it’s not)
Great voice, great visuals, great narration.

This is the best comprehensive story overview of the doom series on RUclips!
Doom Eternal is a masterpiece game, love how much lore is in the game, really deep, adds so much to the world 👏👏👏
It was fantastic until they added in the cartoon stunned sound effects
@@travisvanalst4698An acquired taste that I admittedly admire, though.
I had always assumed the slayer must have followed the demons through a portal on a raid of another world (argent dnur) and since they realized there had a chance to regroup they did just that before trying to launch an attack with the titan to take down the slayer for good. obviously it failed terribly
The only major contradiction in this video is that the slayer kills the icon of sin before he makes to to argent dnur and before the guy there even knows about the demons to make the pact about his son.
Great effort - thanks for taking the time to piece this all together!
Exceptional story telling of a convoluted universe. By far the best explanation on YT of Doom.
The DOOM Slayer was not trapped in hell. Hell was trapped with the DOOM Slayer!
Facts
Man it's so great to find a good Doom lore RUclipsr!
Keep up the great work!

Konstantinos.
Man to angry to die that became a god and destroyed the leader of hell itself. So awesome!
Kinda makes Gordon Freeman look like a basic Black Mesa Scientist
Your explenation of the doomslayer is so spot on .... now i understand the hole series ....and ready to RIP AND TEAR once again ...... great job.
Thanks! RIP AND TEAR!
