Roger, these videos are fantastic. I agree with the use of berley off the beach….I am from the Gippsland area of Victoria and fish along the 90 mile beach and do use berley and it has proven effective. I do not use the same rigs as you, or the baits (apart from cut strips of fish) but the principles you teach in these videos certainly cross many lines….thanks for sharing.
Hi Mark, I grew up fishing the 90 mile too. Lake Tyers back beach was our go to. I miss surf fishing. I gave it away when I started Deer hunting but now that I don't eat red meat anymore I've got the fishing bug again. The blue swimmers were great berley, especially at night. We had a ball catching the Tailor around the midnight tide run.
So impressed with all your videos Roger. I have never fished in my life but am just moving up to Soldiers Point Nelson Bay and intend to do plenty of fishing. Thanks for all the expert tips.
Hi Roger, I live in the Gippsland area and the sidewash along the 90 Mile can be brutal at times. I do use berley off the beach but never with much thought or strategy, so your tip about fishing a ways down the berley trail was a real lightbulb moment for me. Your channel and the information in your videos has been very helpful to improving my beach fishing, since I'm still new to it and mostly fish the Gippsland Lakes. Thank you for all the information you're putting out!
thanks for your tips Roger, you really had help me in increasing my fishing skills overtime. Thank you so much for all your vids and keep your great work on, you are an absolute legend. Thanks for sharing
100% agree with burley off the beach! Fish the rips and current preasure points! Let the curent take your bait to the fish! They will be waiting at those points, drop off's, ledges, structure ect
Hi Roger, I'm from Sydney and love your videos. You speak clearly and from the heart. A dinkie di bloke that's enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience. Good onya! Congrats on your success online!
I cast a big can of tuna, slightly open the can to release odor and cast it around the place I’m roughly casting my bait. When I’m finished fishing I simply reel in the can.!
Hi Roger. My comment is not relative to this video but wanna thank you for introducing me in the use of STINGER/KEEPER hooks.Damn they do work.Over the last couple of months 90% of my catch was hooked on the STINGER. Cheers mate👍
@@RogerOsborneFishing I have mainly caught Flathead, Bream and Travelly. On a couple of occasions have landed Tailor. Also used your suggested running rig with size 4/0 and 2 suicidal hook combo on pillies.Cannot thank you enough mate.
Still catch fish of the beach without berley however when I cut my pilchards I only use the half tail and throw the rest in the water I have caught fish and looked inside their stomach to find the half pilchard I threw in the water was eaten by fish I caught
I've always fished Stockton Beach, never ever thought of berley there. Though I haven't been there in about 10/11 yrs, had to sell the car. I'd really like to try fishing for bream, whiting off a beach though, always just chased the tailor, sometimes salmon.
Awesome video and channel! I'm hoping to be one of those mentioned that goes from almost no fish to a fair catch!! Hehe. Just wondering... if you didn't want to spend the money on an extra block of pilchards as berley... are there any cheaper/ free options?
Great tip Roger and thanks for your creative media. But why do you take more fish than you need. Bag limit are for those who don't live near the water. . I really think those of us who have daily access to the water should only take a feed for that night.
G'day Roger, I have been watching a number of your clips and they are great. I am just wondering if you live in the area where the island that features behind you quite often. which is my home village, or are you at the caravan park? I am surprised I haven't run into you, I fish the beach all the time. It would be great to meet you some day. Cheers, Jim.
I've never done much beach fishing I live in Sydney the main Ares I've fished are in Port Jackson around Mort Bay Balmain. Most of the fish caught here you got to throw back due to pollution.
Jesus said : cast your nets to the right Roger said : stick your berley n get it right Conclusion - same same but different. So simple, yet so effective n wise fishing techniqe. Good stuff. Shalom
Mate, good video and good information. I always add tuna oil to my beach berley. Then i can see the oil slick and which way up or down the beach the berley is heading. But your right, not many fishos do use berley off the beach. Cheers.
Hi Owhc, Depending on the keeper net that you buy, the size of the holes vary. It is best to buy a keeper net with holes that are not big enough for the pilchards to come out. Occasionally, while the berley is being washed around in the waves, I stamp my foot on the bag to break up the pilchards.
What's your limit? Enough to eat for a day or two or as much as allowed. Personally I go for eating limit and I hope you do too. But maybe I'm not feeding as many as you 🙂
Hey Roger at my local salmon beach there are some submerged reefs that i get snapped up on. How can i get my line out deep without getting busted on the reef? extra long leaders with the hook up way high? any help is appreciated, regards
Hi buddy, some of the beaches that I fish have reefs, but I avoid casting close to the reef. I don't think a particular rig will help much. When I fish off the rocks directly onto reef I often just use a ball sinker straight to the hook and it works quite well with only the occasional snag.
Thank you for your tips that you give people are you soon going to Australia to meet my fiance that she is from Malaysia and I'm going to be there for a couple of months to get to know I will try to see how can I meet you or you could show me your

Mark, what rigs do you use ? What species have you been catching on 90 mile beach ?
Hey I fish on the 90 mile of lakes too. I’ve caught some salmon on silver lures and some bronzies and gummies at night on cut squid

Thanks Roger, looking forward to this
We use burley in Lake Macquarie all the time but now when I go beach fishing, there will be a similar berley setup used -- great idea, mate.

That's a good observation Phillip. I have found that berleying definitely improves the fishing.
Great tips. 🏆👏

All tips are good tips. Tidal drift is worth knowing and I was also wondering if there is a place to position your burley near a rip.
Hi Rick, It is best to position your berley bag in the center of a rip current.
Great tip Roger and thanks for your creative media. But why do you take more fish than you need. Bag limit are for those who don't live near the water. . I really think those of us who have daily access to the water should only take a feed for that night.

Okay, the Sydney beaches are great for fishing. Give them a try.
Quick question Roger, do you ever get gulls trying to take the pilchards when you do this? Do you have any advice for keeping the birds at bay?
Hi Jay, I haven't had much problem with gulls when berleying from the beach. I have had some issues with them when boat fishing

Do the size of the holes means the fish will come out whole?
Hi Owhc, Depending on the keeper net that you buy, the size of the holes vary. It is best to buy a keeper net with holes that are not big enough for the pilchards to come out. Occasionally, while the berley is being washed around in the waves, I stamp my foot on the bag to break up the pilchards.
Can you do one on beach fishing for sharks
Hi Ben, I don't usually target sharks. I often catch them and let them go.
@@RogerOsborneFishing yeah alright there good fun I don't really each any fish I just do it for fun to be honest nothing like a good fight
What's your limit? Enough to eat for a day or two or as much as allowed. Personally I go for eating limit and I hope you do too. But maybe I'm not feeding as many as you 🙂
If your using pilchards as berly then what do you use for bait?
Allan, I use Pilchards, live bait such as Mullet or Yellowtail, Beach Worms, Slab Baits.
Does the tide matter? Is there a prime time to set up
Hi David, I like low tide and the first couple of hours of the run in, and also an hour or so either side of high tide.

Good stuff Roger. Block of pilchards could be pretty costly though to use for Burley 😂😂. What else do you recommend ?
Also i fish off Cronulla beach . Nice Whiting and Bream at the moment . Salmon and Tailor are always there
Sounds great Andy, you could use some fish frames or freeze leftover bait to keep as berley.
Mix up with bread bro
