If anyone is on the fence about this camera, go watch Danny Gevirtz’ videos from the past month. That dude annihilated most peoples RED/Blackmagic/C70 etc footage with this camera and 1 lens in about a weeks time lol. It’s perfectly capable if you’re good at what you do
I am an aspiring filmer and wish to have something light to travel and shoot cinematic scenes nature, and short films and tv series. Do you think this camera is good enough rather than red or black magic? Thx
@@happylifegrace4674 I shoot on a a7s3 and c200 currently but rented a red Komodo to try. I shoot weddings so my opinion might differ from what you need. Red Komodo has superior colors, r3d raw is easy and fast to edit (easier than slog3 10bit or c200 raw). The issues I had were autofocus, no stabilization, and the long time it took to cut on and off during the wedding. I was tempted to go with a c70 but I don’t like my c200 as much as my a7s3 so I’m leaning towards a A1 or fx3. I wouldn’t go blackmagic 6k pro yet because people have issues with it turning off and taking 15 minutes to cut back on. Blackmagic will send you a new one if you have that issue but I can’t take that risk during a wedding. For a light camera that you can get a lot out of a1, fx3, or a7s3 will be great for stabilization, iso, color (Sony has finally gotten way more neutral) and slow mo. Plus they are all light and easy to travel with. I wouldn’t go with a c70 for travel because of form factor and weight. Komodo can travel but it does best when it’s in the correct environment - on set where you can calibrate (only takes 2.5 minutes now) and make sure you’re set to go with settings and have your camera on. Komodo is easy to change most settings but the white balance was not the quickest to edit if you want to ever use auto white balance. Changing temps on the fly is super easy though, just difficult to dial in hue and color temp since you have to enter the menu to do so.
Facts. These people keep buying up new $10,000 cameras every month to level up yet I’d bet a guy like Danny could create something better on his phone lol
Yeah I love his work. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s better overall than a Red camera, but once it hits RUclips and I’m watching on my phone or even my TV and it plays in between all the other 8bit compressed videos, it performs really well. I haven’t seen the footage tested in a full production / post production process for theatrical release or even Netflix Dolby Vision, let alone for a film with heavy VFX that’s using tons of compositing, and then seeing the final product in optimal viewing environments. So id say, just looking at RUclips, if we’re comparing cameras just for content creators, I totally agree with you. And that’s a HUGE demographic of professionals, so you still have a point!
The FX3 is a workhorse for professional video work. Very powerful and reliable, don’t let his compact form factor fooled you. His image quality and DR is amazing and comparable to other cinema cameras much more expensive, no doubt. It’s a brilliant camera with incredible value. Greetings
The FX3 is one camera I DO plan on buying. What's funny about the whole "built-in ND" filter thing, is that no one complained about the lack of them during the previous cycle of cameras. Only since they started to be highlighted did people "take notice". And now, people seem to be unable to live without them. Yea, they're great and very convenient. But, the lack of them shouldn't stop you from making films. Every year it seems there are features that suddenly are a must have, when the year before few people were talking about them.
People also forget it's the introduction camera to the Sony Cine line. Smh. Only gripe I have...ONLY...is not having the option to change to shutter angle...BUT STILL...that's not even a deal breaker! It's such a technical aspect of cameras that the average person viewing the videos will NEVER be able to tell between shutter speed vs a shutter angle. A lot of complaining and less being more creative.
I own an FX3 and I love it. Creates BEAUTIFUL images, very versatile, and the audio interface is wonderful. Does exactly what it says it can do and that fits perfectly for me and my business. GREAT CAMERA!
After countless of hours researching and watching reviews an vs videos, I realized that I simply need a camera that fit my filming style.. compact, low capability, nd filters, xlr.. combine that with what I want, full fram, easy to rig or put on a gimbal and it made buying cameras easy for me, or at least deciding on one.. the fx6 would be perfect for me..
I have the FX3 and A7SIII and find myself using the FX3 a lot more. I'm shooting a documentary and its been an amazing camera. Great video tho man, keep it going man!
Could you please explain why? I have A7Slll and bought it before FX3 showed up, so now I need a second camera and thought what to choose: FX3, FX6 or A1...
"Don't ask me difficult questions" lmao that was great, but overall that was a genuine and insightful breakdown of info. Especially for new filmmakers, keep crushing it dude!
Man as somebody jumping into the professional range of film making and video production... you spoke about things other creators aren’t willing to talk about and thats amazing, its so dope you mention that there are film making lies that other people say and that puts things into a whole new perspective. I appreciate this majorly ill be checking more of your work out soon 🙌🏽
Been loving seeing passionate filmmakers on youtube who do really great content even without having a lot of subscribers yet. Been here since the first few thousands and I'm glad we've passed half of your goal!! My next camera buy will probably be a bmpcc 4k since stuff here is twice as expensive all the time.
I recently bought a canon R6 and I feel this man, for me, the ecosystem is the most important thing I had a lot of stuff from my first camera canon 6D, and then bough the BMPCC4k with metabones for EF. I wanted to try Sony but..... too much to sell, or too much to keep.
If you aren’t in a tropical region or don’t need to run the camera absolutely all day the FX3 is an amazing little video machine that’s capable of capturing spectacular footage!
4:31 Gah this speaks to me so much. When you pick one camera and ecosystem with its lenses “You're really saying no to every other camera out there“ especially when you are locked into a certain shooting style.
First of all, *thank you* for saying that gear /does/ matter. As a film student, I’m getting really sick of instructors saying that it doesn’t matter, while using their expensive gear. I believe that saying that gear matters isn’t saying that you can’t create anything amazing with a phone and a tripod: of course you can. But when those larger limitations are lifted like camera quality, focal length, and audio, the possibilities become endless. Second of all, do you win anything if you beat this 90 day challenge? 🤨
I think it’s more so gear shouldn’t matter than gear doesn’t matter. There’s no point having the best and most expensive gear when you can barely do the basics with camera and or lighting. I mean most would barely even use all options/settings their intermediary level cameras offer. But if you work on you craft and reach a point where you can max out he potential of your gear then upgrade, and by that time you’d even know exactly what it is you’re looking for so the choose will be easier.
I think the FX3 is great. I like how little/chunky it looks with a big lens. It’s compact enough that I’d like to get rid of my APS-C lenses and my A6400 and just get another FX3. But I don’t need another XLR handle. I wonder how many years I have to wait until they give me the option to get a cheaper FX3 without the handle. Maybe they’ll come out with a 10-bit APS-C camera before then. That would be awesome if there was an APS-C Sony with a full-size HDMI port that did 4K/60 10-bit. I don’t understand why Sony didn’t make that camera two years ago. I just want an E-Mount BMP4K that looks like a little A6400 and actually fits in a pocket instead of something the size of two VHS tapes. What’s wrong with these companies? Blackmagic just wants to make new Pocket cameras which are even bigger, and Sony just wants to keep selling old APS-C cameras that can’t even do 4K/30 without cropping in over 20%. FFS, these people know how popular Ninja Vs are. Why not blow everybody’s mind and make something that records ProRes/DNX over USB-C to a Thunderbolt SSD? You think people enjoy spending an extra $600 on a Ninja for every camera they have? Do any of these people even pay attention to how people use their products? I shouldn’t be commenting on the internet when I’m not sober.
As a wedding filmmaker and camera salesman, I can say, I love the fx3 in every regard, besides the menus…. The camera has been hard to get, people are buying them up from what I have seen. Better than the c70 change my mind
Could you do a vid on the slider you use, gimbals, those types of accessories/tools? Looking to grow my channel in certain looks and would like a good view on those types. Currently have the Weebill S and looking at the GVM Aluminum Slider, Thoughts anyone?
I agree, gear makes ideas possible and to say 'gear does not matter' is a premise that is not only an oversimplification, but done wrong it also hinders instead of enables you. And frustratingly enough it mostly is emphasized by people who have all gear in the world, but to focus too much on gear and not creating ignores the essence of creativity.
Geez my man!! Amazing content as always!! The business mindset you have is extremely helpful!! Thank you for this definitely helping me find my footing.
I get what your saying about the FX3. Your video had me sold on it ... but I had to do some more research. It was Philip Bloom's video, Sony FX3 vs A7S III: What EXACTLY is a CINEMA CAMERA?, that turned my head back to the A7S III. It costs less and I'm not sold on that top-handle/sound-interface on the FX3. I've got more sound gear than camera gear and, the kind of shooting I'll be doing will be fine with the built-in mic on the A7S III. If I need close vocal then I'll plug an audio receiver into the 3.5mm audio input. Thanks for a fantastic channel. *SUBSCRIBED!*
Really Enjoyed this one. Been watching your videos for awhile now and it seems like you're finally having more fun with this now and you're getting in your bag fam. I'm Subscribed and bell icon has been clicked!
just found your channel, and this has nothing to do with the Fx3. The creativity in this video with your camera giveaway made me watch for 6 minutes... I learned a lot from this video about HOW to create for RUclips!! and i gave you the sub. I like free gear, but if its not a Sony, i wont use it lol. Great video KIng!
Dude, as a long time artist that's relatively new to the film creation scene... this is a SOLID video that was really helpful. The consumer/prosumer section was a brilliant take and angle I haven't seen on other channels. Stoked to have found ya. Subscribed
Ok I'm on the fence and need some help picking. FX3 or the 6Kpro? I edit real estate videos and just getting back into filming them and the last few houses had no power and bringing tons of lighting to light up the dark basements suck, not that I still won't need to but either camera will be better then the a7r2 I'm using now. I've watched pretty much every video on youtube for both cameras. And I just don't want to pick the wrong one. Especially that both cost about what I spent on my pc.
To be completely honest, I Did not hear a thing of what you said about that camera sir, because this video was so satisfying to watch. so I subbed. and that clone of yours was just a funny pain in "neck"😀🙃. one love. you deserve much more than 100k subs. great job sir.
Best of luck reaching your goal! I really have enjoyed following you and learning your perspective on this camera. I think you really get into the important deciding factors like dew others when it comes to decision making and business.
If they added at least a LANC port (real let-down that its missing), the better 2.36 million dot display (which the A7r IIIa and IVa are getting now) and the sharpness control option of the FX6, everything would have been fine. But without at least those few features the differences are just too small to the A7s III (which also gets huge price drops lately and is part of more and more dealer offers together with lenses). The differences are just too small (and you skip on the really good EVF and the passive cooling if you go for the FX3 instead of the A7s III) ...
Basically, the FX3 gets a bad reputation because “filmmakers” expect everything to be “easier” and without extra effort into what makes film making a fun and creative experience. Sounds similar to those who use GarageBand to make redundant loops along with slapping vocals on it with fake auto-tune instead of recording actual instruments and mastering a signature technique. Yes, it takes extra effort to get the results you want instead of settling for less. The 6K Pro still has no personality that pops and looks like polished cellphone footage but with better bokeh and that’s likely because they no longer use Fairchild sensors like the original. The BMPCC OG has character and vibe, it’s not boring and cliché. The FX3/A7S3 have a rendering that also pops over the 4K/6K Pro similar to how the Venice is over the Alexa. My girlfriend watched OZARK the other day for the first time and as an artist herself she said “I simply love that camera they use”.
I got it and it’s great and confusing since I am used to my A6600. The shadows are noisy in slow motion. I need to really focus on iso 640 or 12800 it seems but the colors are amazing and I like the buttons. Slog 3 is great. I wish there was auto timer for selfies.
You are correct gear does matter. I'm trying to decide between this camera and the bmpcc4k. I have both lens ecosystems. I have a sony a7riii and A7iii that I use both for stills pro work. I want to have a dedicated video camera. I love, luv my sony lenses. The m43 lenses I have are very basic but there are power zooms that I believe would be easier to shoot with run and gun. The price point is the only thing going against fx3.
To this day I am still using the GH5 as a professional. I use it because of it's features AND it's price. Today there is still no other camera that can do what the GH5 does at the price it offers. I can get 2 or even 3 GH5's at the price of some of these cameras that are being released and it simply works for me and the lens options are amazing.
I have a GH5 as well and it has served me well but over the last couple of years I've found more and more jobs where the lowlight just doesn't cut it (I have a GH5S as well which is great in lowlight but no IBIS is a problem for a lot of my work). As I've got older I realise there are times where good AF would be a big help as my eyes get tired. For all of the GH5's good points the lack of good AF can be a problem for me. It's true that the Sonys are very expensive which is why I haven't switched...yet!
We have the same name. Subbed. With that said, the fx3 is for people who want an a7s3 without recording limits, has Cinetone S, don't want to record audio separately and can live without a viewfinder.
If you are planning to use XLR mics anytime in the future, or even like using a top handle, get the FX3. It's worth it. I love the EVF, use it all the time outside on shoots. But that's just me 😁 Many love the FX3, it's a great camera.
Loved the way you differentiated. I'm also stuck in the same kind of dilemma for getting a good camera under my budget or try to extend it a bit more to get some extra functions.
After I got my A7SIII, this FX3 came out, and I really confuse about it, just like you! For me I will go A7SIII for Gimbal work, and FX6 for my commercial client work.
I shoot weddings and corporate work. With that said, I have gotten a lot of value out of the A7Siii. My next camera purchase will be a FX3 unless something comes out better in the year, and I will keep both of them. The modularity of the system allows me to shoot efficiently using different rig methods with very little tradeoffs... just HAVE what you need to rig it. I would never put a komodo in a wedding environment when I have something that produces solid images with more features and a smaller footprint. Watching my 2nd shooter come in one day with a C70 on a Ronin-S and shooting a 10 hour day without a vest reminded me of that quickly hahah... "Cinema" cameras prioritize image quality, which the FX3 takes very little to no loss on. Clearly there's better, but annual wage for what you do is relevant to whether or not you're buying that camera. I'm on track to making 70k+ this year with living costs no more than 2.5k/month and still aren't considering a camera that is twice the cost which produces such a marginal difference in results. I'd rather spend that money on more lighting and audio. Lights give you more creative control than a camera does and audio is half of your video. Yes, I know we're just discussing cameras, but I think there is a common trend online with people who will buy a $7k camera before buying an asset that both lasts longer and ultimately gives them more creative control in a smaller price package. Additionally, I've seen people buy "cinema" cameras before they buy into a lens ecosystem, grip equipment (mounts, clamps, scrims, light modifiers, etc.), stabilizers, audio, computer hardware for post-processing, or even a tripod that ISN'T a $30 set of aluminum chopsticks. I swear to god, the next time I see someone running a RED Komodo on set with a fuzzy $20 minolta lens, I'm going to kick a puppy. And to whoever needs to hear this: stop fucking skipping leg day. 45Lb vest and arm rig with a pair of 5lb chicken thighs lookin ass. ANYWAY, right tool for the right job and the right price... Don't try to be a big dick with your money without a competent pair of balls.

Good point about it being halfway between the consumer and professional level, makes total sense.
What bag do you have at 1:08? I’ve been looking for a nice sling style bag for my a7iii & 28-75.

Shutter angle is not a feature that you can't get with shutter speed. ND? Yes, would be really nice to have on this camera.
Did you already pick a winner for the counters or camera
Very nice explanation of the situation. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Dude that camp camera bag is awesome! What kind is it and where did you get it? Also the video is dope and informative!
Subbed! Thanks for the rad review. Considering this camera as a go to for indie shoots.
Does it make sense to keep my A7iii for photo work and gettin the fx3 just for filming?
I believe so! The A7iii has a slightly higher megapixel count and the EVF will definitely come in handy when taking photos.
Can I ask what that spotlight is you have on the wooden tripod in the background (brand/where I can find it)? Thanks, great content as always!
I really do appreciate your updates
You always inspire me with your content
Love your videos! Always super helpful and informative.
Love you’re work man just subbed here’s to the 100k
To be completely honest, I Did not hear a thing of what you said about that camera sir, because this video was so satisfying to watch. so I subbed. and that clone of yours was just a funny pain in "neck"😀🙃. one love. you deserve much more than 100k subs. great job sir.
Lol I’ll take that!
@@bwashmedia something about you brother... Keep flowing and I am watching and doing.
Someone who is honest, gear does make a difference. Especially if you know how to use it, thanks for the knowledge 🤙
Subscribed! Fingers crossed! Great content my friend and all the best hitting that goal!
Informative video fr, sticking wit my bmpcc 6k tho
Best of luck reaching your goal! I really have enjoyed following you and learning your perspective on this camera. I think you really get into the important deciding factors like dew others when it comes to decision making and business.
What do you use to film your talking head sections?
If they added at least a LANC port (real let-down that its missing), the better 2.36 million dot display (which the A7r IIIa and IVa are getting now) and the sharpness control option of the FX6, everything would have been fine. But without at least those few features the differences are just too small to the A7s III (which also gets huge price drops lately and is part of more and more dealer offers together with lenses). The differences are just too small (and you skip on the really good EVF and the passive cooling if you go for the FX3 instead of the A7s III) ...
Excellent summary!
You got a new subscriber.
Very good explanation and differences between clients (consumer, prosumer and professional)
I would take the a7s iii I'm not sure to pay more for the fx3 is the same camera
You're doing a great job, bro
Sick set up!
Yo that camo camera bag is sick!
Love your content 💪🏾
Found you yesterday!!! I love the funny dude 👍🏽
I got it and it’s great and confusing since I am used to my A6600. The shadows are noisy in slow motion. I need to really focus on iso 640 or 12800 it seems but the colors are amazing and I like the buttons. Slog 3 is great. I wish there was auto timer for selfies.
First time I'm seeing your video 👏
Juat subbed and
I can't stay without share this😍😍👌
I subscribed just because I want to see you get the 100k followers. And I like your content. Always inspired to see other creators like yourself.
Great Video! Thank you for sharing!
Great video with good presentation
I came across this channel pretty recently and I’ve been really loving the content keep it up 🙌🏽
You are correct gear does matter.
I do t even need a camera but I still love your videos man so I’m subbed!!
It's true that the Sonys are very expensive which is why I haven't switched...yet!
nice review, just thinking about buying a new camera between FX3 and a7s3
Great information, thank you so much!
Great content bro
We have the same name. Subbed.
With that said, the fx3 is for people who want an a7s3 without recording limits, has Cinetone S, don't want to record audio separately and can live without a viewfinder.
A7Siii has no recording limits, has cinetone and can record XLR audio with an adapter 😉 I own both and I actually prefer the A7Siii actually.
@@FilmFlab gotta love those updates. Hmmm. This decision became a lot harder.
If you are planning to use XLR mics anytime in the future, or even like using a top handle, get the FX3. It's worth it. I love the EVF, use it all the time outside on shoots. But that's just me 😁 Many love the FX3, it's a great camera.
Thanks for your great thoughts!
Well done dude 👊
Great video brother. Got my sub 👍🏽
Great video man - really well thought out points! You’ve got yourself another new subscriber! 👌
Bmpcc4k is my camera of choice .. but given a chance i do love trying new gear
I’m thinking about buying the BM4k or the 6k 😮.
