He had to give up his career as an architect, because someone had to look after the estate and his father was suffering from stroke. Prince Richard became the 2. Duke of Gloucester in 1974, when Prince Henry died at the age of 74. He was the last surviving son of George V.

You have to admire this Royal couple, carrying out their engagements so beautifully, discreetly, and a credit to themselves and the Royal Family. Maybe other members of the family could learn from them.

They seem like a nice couple. 47 years later they still look happy judging from recent photos. I admire the fact that he studied and made a career in architecture.

Prince Richard is the Queen's much younger cousin. His father, Henry, was a younger brother of King George VI.

@@aidie2311 George VI had several siblings: Edward VIII (later the Duke of Windsor), Mary (Princess Royal/Countess of Harewood), Henry (Duke of Gloucester, Prince Richard's father), George (Duke of Kent) and Prince John.
