    The metal plate is only for installing on an electrical box. You only need to screw the base and trim plate in together.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  5 месяцев назад +2

      I screwed it into the stud, that's why I used the metal plate.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  5 дней назад

      It's in the Google Home app, when you select the thermostat, there is a "Fan" option you can click on.

    Thanks for sharing the install. I have the previous version, and of course Google keeps asking me to 'upgrade'.
    Is the white plastic framing compulsory? Not fond of that, I prefer the sleek look, flush to the wall with nothing around it...

    • @landpet
      @landpet  5 месяцев назад +2

      It would require a bit of work for me to make it flush, just decided to go with the backplate. I do agree with you that the flush look is more desirable.

    Dose your temp sensor only display temperature in Celsius? I can't find a way to change it?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  4 месяца назад

      Mine is in Fahrenheit.
      You can change it to Celsius if you want
      In the Google home app, goto the thermostat main page so you can see the thermostat and control it.
      Then click on the settings (cog) towards the top right, then click on thermostat, then change to Celsius or Fahrenheit under temperature units

    • @JEFFREYSOLORIO
      @JEFFREYSOLORIO 4 месяца назад

      @Landpet, I tried it, but it only changes the way the thermostat displays the temperature. The temperature sensor still remains Celsius. I think it's bugged out.

    Great video. Thank you for sharing. Comparing the Gen 3 and 4, what are the learning differences ? Also, any saving efficiency gains between the two gen ?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  5 месяцев назад

      I had a gen 3 awhile ago. The thing to note is that I don't use much of the savings features anymore, I just like the ability to control the AC with my phone and voice. Energy settings used to matter more and there was a big difference from a standard thermostat to a nest but now I live in a cooler area and I have solar so I pay less attention to the energy savings now.
      I can't really say one way or another, I wouldn't imagine it to be a big difference though.

    • @gund89123

      Lennox makes a custom thermostat that works with their equipment.
      Google makes a thermostat that works with most equipment.
      HVAC manufacturers probably don’t want to share all the details on how their systems work with google because they want to sell thermostats too 😅
      Hope Google added more functionality to this 4th generation.

    Is there a metal box behind that sheet rock because if it’s not, you don’t need to use that metal plate

    • @landpet
      @landpet  5 месяцев назад

      The metal plate is useful because the two long screws went into a stud providing more strength.
      You are correct though, I could've done without it since I don't have a metal box behind it.

    I'm coming from the learning third gen to the learning fourth gen thermostat and it feels like a downgrade. The fourth gen thermostat looks like a damn mushroom hanging on your wall. The interface on the Google Home app is horrific. You can't access any of the advanced features unless you use the damn app now. When you touch the display it easily turns so you accidentally change your temperature settings. The learning 4th gen does appear to be more compatible with heat pumps when properly set up as the self setup will not work properly. Most of the smart features on this thermostat are a gimmick and it actually works better when you keep them turned off.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  5 месяцев назад

      I've had a nest for years, here are three things that make it convenient:
      1. When I leave the house, I can check to see if the AC has been left on or I can set it to home and away and it will automatically turn off when I leave and turn on when I get back.
      2. I can control it with my voice which comes in handy sometimes
      3. Sometimes I turn on the AC with enough time for it to cool or heat before I get home.
      There are a few more reasons but less important, so not really focusing on it, I do prefer the spinning dial for instance and it does look nice aesthetically
